Dust Extractors After purchasing your Makita dust extractor, it is vital you maintain it and tools used in order to gain the best results from your investment.

Read and understand the owners manual, for maintenance information

Ensure all hoses and fittings actually fit correctly, don’t use masking tape to hook up the tool to the extractor. Specific nozzles are not expensive.

Only use approved dust collection bags for specific machines, seal and dispose of full bags in an approved manner. Don’t tip from second storey into dumpster etc.

Dust bags are not expensive and should not be recycled.

Clean filters regularly and replace if damaged, or worn out. Many are washable and easy to keep clean.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT DUST EXTRACTOR Dust extractors are rated relative to the types of dust they are designed to collect based on European standards, which have been largely adopted here and in Australia. Dust classes are classified in the following manner and we include the types of dust they are designed to capture.

“L”CLASS are extractors that remove 99.0% of dust particles WEL -0.1mg/m3 Suitable for the capture of Mica, Gypsum, Wood Dust.

“M”CLASS NOTE Subject to confirmation by Worksafe NZ., are extractors that remove 99.9% of dust particles WEL-0.1mg/m3. Suitable for the above but more importantly the capability to collect dust from Concrete and Masonry products containing Silica. This is a very dangerous dust type and is responsible for many of the severe illnesses and indeed deaths. “H”CLASS, this is for the removal of “HAZARDOUS” materials such as Asbestos. Makita does not have any products for this sector of industry, and generally experts are used for this task. Please do not be confused by people using the expression “HEPA” filter as being able to be used in the removal of hazardous materials. This in fact is merely a type of filter, High Efficiency Particulate Filter, and is found as either a standard accessory on some models or is available for others as an option. Despite having a dust extractor, go further to protect yourself, wear a dust mask, ear and eye protection.

Meeting the Regulations The Health & Safety Act in the workplace 2016, outlines specific rules and regulations relating to the control of dust in the workplace, please be aware of this legislation and ensure all practicable steps are taken to comply with such.

How to use the Active Auto operation to run my dust extraction system? Plug in your tool to the socket on the front of the machine and connect a dust extraction hose from the machine to the tool. Turn the dial on the front of the machine to ‘AUTO’. The dust extractor will now be turned on and off by the power tool. The machine will continue to run automatically after the tool switches off to clear the hose of excess dust and material.

How do I clean the filter? Unplug the machine from the socket. Open the hatch at the back of the machine and remove the PTFE filter cartridge from the machine. Rinse under clean water and allow to dry. Wipe seal around filter to remove any built up dust. Place filter cartridge back in the machine and close the hatch.

How do I use my power tool to run my dust extraction system? Plug your 240v electric power tool into the socket on the front of the machine. Turn the control knob to the AUTO position at the desired speed. When the power tool is activated the VC3012M will also be activated and continue to run for approx. 5 seconds once the tool is switched off.

What is the difference in hose diameter settings? The hose diameter setting ensures the machine measures air velocity accurately. If the hose diameter setting is wrong, the Flow Sensor alarm may be activated unnecessarily.
