Worcester Park Life Readers of the local Guardian may have read of the recent death of Maurice Sellwood, Epsom and Ewell’s Parks Officer for over 20 years in the 1960s-80s, aged 83. I thought it might be of interest to present some of Mr Sellwood’s recollections, from a conversation I had with him in 2002.

He told me how his career in horticulture began: “I was always very interested in the seed trade, and Suttons’ was my aim. I used to save seed from my mother’s garden – didn’t allow her to pick flowers – and I packeted them up and gave them to my aunts, that’s how it all started.” Mr Sellwood began work in Hughenden Manor’s gardens, and studied horticulture at Hertfordshire College of Agriculture. He spent five years in commercial market gardening in the Thames Valley, looking after fruit and cut flowers, and making trips to market. The rest of his career was in local authority parks work. He spent about 15 years with four authorities: Maidenhead, Hayes and Harlington, Luton, and finally Brentwood, where he was effectively the first Parks Superintendent. While there, he heard of the vacancy at Epsom and Ewell, and “When I said to the [Brentwood] Town Clerk what the grade was, he said, ‘Well, I can’t match that, you’d better go, we’ll give you a good reference.’” Mr Sellwood was the second person to head the Parks service for Epsom and Ewell; his predecessor, Harry Butcher, had served from 1936 to 1964, and had, to use Mr Sellwood’s words, “suffered under several Borough Engineers”. The Parks now became a separate department, thanks to Alderman Larby’s enthusiasm, so Mr Sellwood served as a chief officer. In Shadbolt Park (shown in our illustrations, courtesy of John Le Flem), changes were forced upon him by the loss of many elms, including a belt in the wood. On the lefthand side of the wood, “my endeavour was to establish a rhododendron border, and on the right-hand side an evergreen border of shrubs, laurel and aucuba. We did a lot of soil improvement; [there was] a tremendous amount of leaves there, and they used to cart them away, well, we didn’t cart them away, they went into that rhododendron border as mulch.” John Le Flem was the resident gardener at Shadbolt Park at this time, and Mr Sellwood introduced arrangements To advertise in

for him to use the nursery area (now the day-lily garden cared for by the Friends of Shadbolt Park) for potting up shrubs and trees for planting elsewhere. Tulip Sundays were run for several years, to attract more visitors. Less successful were attempts to maintain ducks on the pond: “The Health Department rat-catcher always kept the foxes down. Then he retired, so they had two pest officers [who] used to go round and count the foxes.” A memorable innovation, still prominent in the Borough’s calendar, was the Herald of Spring event at Bourne Hall in Ewell, consisting of displays of spring flowers, and stalls from local organisations and companies on horticultural and wildlife themes. “That started because the Mayor moved his reception to Bourne Hall, and from u

Maurices’ Memories continued from page 7 November to February, which was rather good from our point of view because we were able to do forced shrubs, bulbs, forsythia, flowering plum and that sort of thing. We were clearing it away, and one lady said, ‘Wouldn’t it be nice if the public could see it?’ so I took it to the Parks Committee and they agreed to do it. “The glasshouses were spread around all over the place, including Alexandra Recreation Ground, Bourne Hall and Ewell Court; all these areas needed weekend watering and heating systems.” He brought the nursery operation together at Cherry Orchard Farm on the edge of Nonsuch Park. “We had garden teach-ins [there] on a Saturday morning, and open days so the general public could look round.” One of the staff was later to feature on Gardeners’ World

and Gardeners’ Question Time: “Anne Swithinbank came to us to do a project, from Kew, and then we employed her. She worked at Cherry Orchard Nursery, and worked very very hard indeed, and she did several good things at the Herald of Spring, she did a tropical garden one year. She left us and went to Wisley, and that’s how she got on to television.”
At Auriol Park, a bowling green was instituted, a prime mover being Mrs Knight, whose husband had been Mayor: “There was no other Worcester Parkian that would surpass her.” Other projects included installing play equipment in Shadbolt Park and elsewhere, cleaning out the lakes at Bourne Hall (removing an amazing number of bottles) and Ewell Court, and providing support for allotment and garden societies. Maintenance of recreation grounds was part of his role, but he was also interested in making provision for those who preferred “passive recreation” such as walking and riding, to more active sports, and one of his approaches was a “linear parks system: the Hogsmill Open Space didn’t connect to Ewell village, and when I was in Leeds on a conference I saw just the scenario to link to the Upper Mill; Council agreed to do it, and we put the footpath in, and the bridge which was over the river and under the railway.” A major acquisition in his time was the land which became Horton County Park, and he drew up a list of features to be included: “golf, horse-riding, landscaping, tree-planting, and an animal farm visitor centre.” The paddock of Shadbolt Park, between Edenfield Gardens and Salisbury Road, will be the venue for the Cuddington Community Fun Day, organised by St Mary’s Cuddington in collaboration with other local groups, on Saturday 18 June – more details next time. St Mary’s Church itself, at the top of The Avenue, will be hosting a concert by Kingston and Malden Scout and Guide Band on Saturday 14 May at 7.30pm, including classics, marches and music from stage and screen. Stars in my eyes

(Or ‘confessions of a Worcester Park geek’) When I was about ten years old I bought a book from a jumble sale that was to launch me on an addictive hobby that was to be an important part of my life for the next fifty years or so. The book was called ‘The Book of Natural Wonders’ and from the moment I read the first chapter, entitled ‘The Earth As A Planet’ I was hooked on astronomy. I was fascinated by the fact that our sun was but a mere speck amongst trillions of other suns, which in turn could possibly have Earth-like planets going round them. It certainly brought my own life into perspective and made me realise how insignificant we really are. Since the day of my discovery science has moved on quite a bit, and the book that lured me into all things cosmic is now incredibly out of date. After all, it WAS printed in 1932! Even so, its basic information gave me a thirst for more knowledge, which led me to buy many other books on astronomy and ‘the meaning of it all’ as years have gone by. Although our educational system has always promoted the sciences, and whilst many schools boast astronomy clubs, the subject itself has always been treated as a sideshow, and not deemed relevant to ‘real’ education. Even the wonderful ‘Sky At Night’ television programme, hosted by the great Sir Patrick Moore (seemingly forever), is screened very late at night when many prospective viewers are fast asleep. During my days at grammar school I learnt physics and chemistry in a dusty classroom atmosphere, that, to my young mind, bore no relation to the real world I inhabited. Had our teachers taken us outside and used the heavens above to demonstrate to us the basics of time, gravity and light, how much more interesting those lessons would have been. Surely teaching children about the fundamentals of our very existence should be built into the curriculum and given at least as much importance as, for instance, religion or geography. After the start of my lonely journey into the great unknown I was fortunate enough to eventually have a boyfriend who was a fellow geek, and who indeed was building his own astronomy telescope. His enthusiasm for our

joint stargazing was infectious (whatever happened to you, Ian Mackinlay …..?!) and we shared many happy hours discussing the craters of the moon or charting meteor showers. As years passed by I acquired a mass of literature on my beloved hobby and eventually bought two telescopes. Unfortunately, even on the clearest star-filled evening, the pollution and mostly unnecessary nocturnal electrical illumination from buildings and street lighting means that images of what is in our heavens always looks a little blurry.
My diary and calendar not only contain the normal quota of birthdays and social events, but also the dates of the predicted meteor showers that our planet passes through several times during the year. These showers can be quite stunning. The first time I witnessed

one it was part of The Perseids, which are at the height of their activity between 23rd July and 20th August. If, up until now you have perceived astronomy to be a boring subject, I would recommend that you view such a spectacle. I can guarantee that you will find it anything but boring!
I am a great fan of Professor Brian Cox, whose television appearances and recently published book “Wonders Of The Universe” have been drawing in a whole new generation of astronomy fans. I also pounce on every book that either Professor Stephen Hawking (the brilliant physicist) or Professor Richard Dawkins (the world-renowned evolutionary biologist) put into print. Like so many others before me, I constantly want to know “Why are we here? “ and more importantly “Where are we going?” The thought that some of our greatest scientific minds truly believe that parallel universes exist, stuns me. The idea that there might be a ‘little green woman’ (who says it has to always be a ‘little green man‘?!) out there, writing an article just like this on a planet named Zog, at this very moment, whilst overlapping into our own time and space, just blows me away! (I wonder if HER family - every little green one of them - constantly interrupts HER just as mine does when

by Justin Urquhart Stewart For reasons best not discussed here, I have seen far too many television adverts over the past couple of months. Most are banal wallpaper that make no impression, but I suspect I am not the typical target market for most advertisers on daytime television (which by the way has to be the best incentive to get back to work). There are some however, which have riled me to levels varying from annoyance to outright anger. At a time of economic austerity and consumer nervousness, adverts proffering instant cash are of course going to attract attention, and especially from those most financially vulnerable. From the annoying “cash for your mobile phones” through to “cash for your gold”, these seem no more than licences for untrustworthy types to set about stealing phones and anything else that glitters and effectively “fencing” them through these virtually unknown outfits. Perhaps it would be worthy of some of the channels to also promote the recycling of phones through more worthy causes and charities and even to have their use extended in third world nations. The same was often the case with old spectacle frames. One of the gold adverts especially irks as they promote that they will take “even broken gold jewellery”. I am not sure quite how you can break gold as even in little pieces it is still – gold? However from the annoying area, let me move on to outright anger. “Pay Day Loans” are being promoted by smiling people happily holding a small wad of notes, having seemingly found a way of resolving their particular financial issue. These loans are designed as short term cash facilities to cover you until quite literally your next pay day, but that bland and seemingly comforting offer only covers a far more dangerous problem. The rates being charged for such loans are astonishing with levels of up to 4120% per annum being quoted. This by any measure is usury. Whilst they may be intended for very short periods of time, just how many people are going to find themselves further financially strapped by late and delayed repayment at eye watering interest rates. Usury was illegal in the UK until the 19th century and in many religions the act of paying interest is against the tenets of the faith. In medieval England money lending was illegal under Christian doctrine, and was it thus such

unsavoury acts were pushed to the Jewish community - who were of course were banned from any other of the usual trades and professions because of their faith. English Kings would have to borrow money from the Italian bankers as none were to be found closer to home capable of such financing - and especially after the Jews were expelled by Edward I in 1290.
Now such loans are being offered to many of the weakest and more vulnerable in our society and those who often have had no financial education, let alone understanding the effect of interest rates or the Byzantine methodology behind working out an APR. I do not accept that these people are responding to a much needed demand from society; they are nothing if not dressed up loan sharks. We all know how much pain has been caused by the easy availability of credit and especially with the instant access to store and credit cards. We may rile at these card operators with their rates of double digit APRs, but these are nothing compared to the usurers. To casually enable vulnerable people to run up debt with huge interest rates of thousands of percent is appalling and a disgrace to our society. WPLife

My husband is an extremely proud Croatian man. Ten years ago when we first met, he assured me that Croatia makes the best wine, the best food (better than Italian!) and that Croatians invented the Cravat, the parachute, the fountain pen, that Marco Polo was in fact Croatian and so on and so on….I think you can see where this is going! I have to admit that most of these things are true, but the wine part, now that’s going to take some serious persuasion. In fact, it seems that he is not alone in his confidence in Croatian wine. It may come as a surprise (it certainly did to me), that 53 Croatian wines were awarded at The Decanter World Wine Awards in 2010 with 8
receiving gold medals at the same awards in 2009. Sweet whites won most of the awards with wine judge Angela Muir describing them as “exclusive, expensive, high-end and up there with the great Sauternes.” If dessert wines aren’t your thing however and you’re prepared to look past the unpronounceable names (Zdjelarevic anyone!), then you can find some approachable, highly enjoyable and reasonably priced Croatian wines in the UK. Ones to look out for are Grasevina (white, dry and crisp) and Plavac Mali (red, dry and fruity). I have to admit that I’m almost sold but if you happen to see my husband, don’t tell him, I’ll never hear the end of it! When it comes down to it, good wine is good wine and where it comes from is becoming much less relevant. It’s no longer necessary to go down the strict French, Antipodean or South American route and winemakers are making their wines more appealing to

a new audience by developing a sense of humour along the way and reminding us that wine above all should be fun. My thing at the moment is trying cheekily named wines and if what’s in the bottle is good, then I’m all for it! The current favourites are, The Vivacious Viognier, The Very Sexy Shiraz and the Darkside (I’m a huge Star Wars geek) from Cloof wines in South Africa. Let’s not forget the brilliantly named Cat’s Pee on a gooseberry bush Sauvignon from the East Coast of New Zealand (a best seller believe it or not!), and Fat B******d Shiraz from the Languedoc region of Southern France. Last but definitely not least is Mad Housewife Chardonnay from Mad Housewife Cellars in California (unfortunately not available in the Uk).
The thing I love the most however, is coming across funny mistakes on wine labels (and yes, I know I’m a big kid). The best one that I came across this month is from the label of a cracking Spanish red that shall remain nameless, offering “an intense nose, vanilla aromas and essence of ripe Barry.” Oo-er!= WPLife

Worcester Park Football Club Worcester Park Football Club is based at Green Lane and is part of the Worcester Park Athletic Club. The name WPAC is a bit misleading as there is no athletics track on the sports field and the only other sporting sections (apart from football) consist of cricket (Surrey Championship Division 2) and tennis. There is also, however, a vibrant social side within its fine clubhouse that also caters for competitive darts and pool with both of these events taking part in the local leagues. The history of Worcester Park Football Club is rather

Whether WPFC played at Skinners Field before 1921 is not known as it is believed that the field was part of church land.
In 1949 the football club was admitted to the old Surrey Senior League where it stayed throughout the fifties and early sixties before demotion to intermediate grade football. WPFC then became a founder member of the Surrey County Premier League in 1982 before its name change to the Surrey County Senior League in 2000. In 2003 it joined the Combined Counties

In the earlier years the club was known as the Skinners, but for a long time now 'come on the Park' has been the call from the touchline. The second team play in the Reserves division of the Combined Counties Football League and the third eleven (known as the 'A' team) play in the Surrey South Eastern Combination League Division 1. The club also provides for a number of junior teams and a vets side. It’s the odourless, invisible drug that helps millions of us face the new day. It’s constantly with us in the house (even the ‘smallest room in the house’ in my case - guess where?), the car, at work, in fact, almost everywhere. Sometimes by choice, sometimes inflicted on us, even from miles away (the car with the 20” alloys and speakers the size of dustbin lids), but usually welcome at some point in our lives. What am I talking about ? The Humble Radio. I’ve been a radio enthusiast for longer than I can remember and have spent the sort of money on Hi Fi tuners (posh name for expensive radio) than most people spend on entire systems. Radio was once the only medium by which many were informed, entertained and challenged. For many, radio still remains the only way to access the outside world, but is now under attack from the hordes of different digital media all vying for our attention- and money. I sometimes feel I’ve crash landed from Mars (or is it Venus) when talking about how wonderful the sound of either a play, or studio discussion from Radio 4 used to be via a high quality tuner. How can the sound of a “Discussion” be wonderful you ask? Well, in the “good old days” (Yes, I’m back off to space on a nostalgic trip !) when FM radio was in it’s heyday, the sound of just voices could raise the hairs on the back of your neck. The topic of discussion could become almost (but never) irrelevant as you revelled in hearing the actual studio in front of you. Imagine then, the thrill of listening to either a live concert or a wonderful piece of music on radio. Of course, radio is still with us, and can now be accessed in a bewildering number of ways. If you’re still awake at this point, you might now start to lose the will to live after I tell you what media are available for radio.

DAB Radio. Can be accessed via portable units, Hi Fi tuners, Freeview and Freesat TV’s, Sky,Virgin Cable, Mobile Phones and now increasingly in cars (heaven forbid). The range of programming is huge if you like listening to new stations for one week before they disappear (harsh, possibly); and as for the sound quality- a lost opportunity. Internet Radio. Can be accessed from- Let me think..... Yes, the internet! Given you can now access the internet from an increasing number of TV’s there’s no escape. The range of stations is almost limitless and Australian racing commentary alone almost makes it worthwhile. Again, as for sound quality- well what do you think ? FM/ MW/LW/SW Radio- Still with me ? This is where it all started. Still millions of portable radios around (a lot covered in paint I’ve noticed recently) along with almost as many in cars, but all still going strong. Sound quality- I’m afraid studio discussions don’t do it for me any more. I’ve tried not to go into the technical aspects of radio for two reasons: 1) Do you really want to know whether DAB transmissions are vertically or horizontally polarised ? 2) I don’t want to sound like a vindictive, miserable, cantankerous, whingeing, grumpy old git, longing for the days of valve radios. The point I’ve tried to make is that in a world of increasing choices, quality tends to suffer. This is true not only of radio but in many aspects of our daily lives. For the vast majority of us, the greater range of access to and range of radio programs should be applauded, but why this has to be at the expense of sound quality is a discussion left for another time (and after a few drinks possibly). Alas, radio doesn’t thrill me in the way it once did, but I live in hope that once again, Radio will not just be the companion we take for granted, but something to genuinely excite us ! WPLife

So, here we are with, for many of you, a most vexed question indeed. We shall start with the technology. At the film making stage, the process to capture a 3D image can require multiple cameras and lenses viewing the same scene from a variety of angles. These elements are then combined into one frame. There are 24 frames making up every second of film!......You do the maths. Expensive? Yes, but the film companies currently believe it is yet another way to get bums in seats at the cinema. Add to this the fact that it is impossible to illegally photograph a 3D movie at the cinema, the anti-piracy benefits are absolute. Have you ever tried to watch a 3D movie without the appropriate glasses? It’s a blurry mess! Broadcast 3D is a slightly different process, but equally expensive which is why there isn’t much of it other than a few selected sports events from Sky. Actually broadcasting 3D content is also expensive, but believe it or not, the silicon required to decode a 3D Blu-ray or TV broadcast is relatively inexpensive. Which would explain why all of the principle TV manufacturing companies appear to have adopted the 3D format so quickly. So, I hear you ask dear reader, what am I getting if I buy a 3D TV? Whilst the silicon required may be inexpensive, the 3D option is currently found only on top-of-the-range screens. However, what this does mean is that the picture quality is always of the highest standard, whether you are watching Standard and HD broadcasts, Blu-ray or DVD. It’s easier to think of the ‘3D Ready’ status as you would an expensive sports car. You know what it’s capable of even though it is unlikely that you would use it to its full potential. As usual with any new technology, there is the inevitable format war to deal with. There are four methods of viewing 3D content, but luckily, only two apply to TV’s (lucky us!). The next question we have to deal with is “Would sir/madam like to interact passively or actively with your new TV?” Some manufacturers have adopted the “Passive” system and some, the “Active”. Both systems require you to wear glasses for all 3D viewing. The Passive System a) The glasses are polarised /tinted and generally similar to the cheap throwaways you get at most commercial cinemas. The older ‘Anaglyph’ system of using Red and Blue/Green tinted glasses is generally the 3D system that most people remember but would rather forget. This ‘stigma’ was so bad that it has discouraged many from re-visiting 3D, which is a crying shame because the technology has advanced so much more since then. Luckily, anaglyph is now a thing of the past and is now relegated to giving added value to the odd issue of ‘The Beano’. b) The original HD (1080 line) frame is split in to two standard definition frames and then merged, creating a final lower resolution picture.

Isn’t May wonderful? Not just one bank holiday, but two! Yes, two opportunities to sit for hours on the A303 on the way to the West Country, with heavy skirmishing breaking out on the back seat, Radio Two’s travel news telling you every half an hour that the A303 isn’t moving, and your dreams of arriving at the holiday cottage in time to unpack and eat a leisurely dinner, before strolling down the village pub to start the weekend in earnest beginning to look less and less likely. But why two such unmissable opportunities for traffic jams in the same month? Well, 1st May has been a holiday since time out of mind. Known to pagans ancient and modern as Beltane, it’s one of the few ancient festivities that can be accurately tracked down: add a few apparently supernumerary letters and it’s the Irish Gaelic for May (the month). And various manifestations of “maying” – maypoles, May garlands, May queens, May fairs, bringing in the May – have been well-documented in England since medieval times. Robin Hood plays were traditional in some districts, complete with Merrie Men, Maid Marian, a hobby-horse, bowers decked with fresh greenery and wildflowers, dancing, drinking, and, as the day wore on, the inevitable outbreaks of immorality. Outlaw-related behaviour was not confined to the peasantry, either: on one occasion Henry VIII and a group of courtiers, all dressed as the greenwood gangsters, burst in on Queen Katherine of Aragon and were generally rowdy in a Bullingdon Club sort of way. The tables were turned on another May Day when Henry himself, out a-maying on Shooter’s Hill, was similarly accosted by men clad all in Lincoln green and, in a mock kidnap, escorted to a rather luxurious Robin Hood’s bower for much feasting and a (doubtless somewhat erratic) archery display. Spring Bank Holiday, by contrast, is an almost entirely modern invention in that it was introduced only in 1971 to replace Whitsun Weekend. Whitsun, of course, falls seven weeks after Easter and was therefore a hugely movable feast, migrating from late May to mid-June. This was much to the annoyance of tidy-minded people who liked things regular. So they changed it, and thereby killed off a centuries-old Christian feast-day. How this increases the happiness of the nation is anybody’s guess. But why should May be the focus of all this feasting and merrymaking and not, say, July, when the weather is more likely to be suited to the purpose? The answer, as some old TV gardening expert used to say – was it Percy Thrower? – lies in the soil. To advertise in

Is May Merrie?
To agrarian peasants down the millennia, May has always been a month of comparative idleness. The heavy ploughing had been – or should have been – completed in April. Haymaking wouldn’t start until June. The biggest job for May was breaking last year’s fallow land and preparing it for more serious ploughing later on in the year. Other than that the work was mainly maintenance, especially hedging and ditching; it was also when the cattle were turned out after winter, so milking, churning butter, and cheesemaking all started up for the duration of summer. This, to us modern-day softies, might sound like backbreaking labour; but it was the true horny-handed son of the soil’s idea of nothing to do. So what better time for tippling, wenching, carousing and generally making merrie? Beats stationary Saturday on the A303, that’s for sure... WPLife

Epsom Rotaract Epsom Rotaract, a social and community group for 18 to 30 year olds, recently organised a Race Night in aid of the children's charity Lifelites (www.lifelites.org/). Lifelites provides technology to children in hospices for play, learning and a sense of independence. A sold out crowd attended the Kingswood Village Club and placed their bets at the Tote and bought horses in droves, for the Epsom Rotaract Race Night. Rotarians, Rotaractors, friends and relatives helped to raise over £1,126 on the night!

Raffle tickets and 'stand up bingo' tickets were also on sale. Guests of all ages bought raffle tickets, bingo tickets, tote tickets and horses. The efforts of all involved made the event a big success, in what was the highest grossing race night in Epsom Rotaract History! There have been other significant events throughout 2010-11.Volunteers consisting of Epsom Rotaract, Epsom Rotary, Ewell Rotary and friends of the clubs (aka the Epsom Community Projects Group) converged in Epsom in late November. The Stephen Woods Centre (opposite the Bleinheim high school) was in need of a new look and the team began stage one of the makeover. The aim of this project was to add a fresh coat of paint to the ground floor of the centre. The walls of the hallway and the ceiling and walls of the main community hall were targeted on this day. The Centre had been used for functions and youth gatherings in the past. However, demand has decreased at the same rate as the building has deteriorated. The Project Group hope to restore it to its former glory. The project was then completed on Saturday 9th April 2011. Epsom Rotaractors and Rotarians also took part in collections for the Pakistan and Japanese Earthquakes during 2010 – 11. On Saturday 14th August 2010, a total of £1183 was raised for the victims of the Pakistan earthquake at the Ashley Centre in Epsom. More recently, Epsom Rotary, with the assistance of Ewell Rotary club and Rotaractors collected £445 from Epsom Shoppers in the Ashley Centre Epsom. This helped to support the relief effort in Japan. Asparagus Bruschettas
Serves 6 Ready in 20 minutes
2 Brush the slices of bread on both sides with some of the olive oil. Place the slices on a hot castiron griddle pan and cook for 1-2 minutes on each side until just crisp and lightly charred in places. If you don’t have a griddle pan then simply grill the toasts. 3 Rub the cut garlic cloves all over the hot toasts (this imparts a mild garlic flavour to the toasts). Spread the goats’ cheese over the toasts. 4 Arrange the asparagus spears on top of the cheese and add a few rocket leaves to each. Drizzle over the rest of the olive oil. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper and serve immediately. WPLife

Add the asparagus spears and simmer for 3-4 minutes until just tender. Drain well and refresh under cold running water.

The last month has seen an increase in bicycle thefts across the west of Sutton Borough, with Worcester Park, Nonsuch and Stonecot wards all being hit. This is a timely reminder for all of us to be more vigilant when securing our bikes and that we should not leave them in an easy position for thieves who have been targeting back gardens, sheds and garages. The thieves tend to take a bike from a shed or garage and then move on to the next. If the next address produces a more expensive or sought after model, they take that and leave the previous bike at this new location. Therefore, should you be unlucky enough to have a bicycle stolen, please check with your neighbours. They too may have had a bicycle stolen, but they may now have your bicycle in their possession. Keep a record of your bike’s make, model and frame number (you may find the number near the handlebars, below the seat post, by the pedals, under the pedals or towards the back wheel). Without these the police, should your bike be recovered, may not be able to restore it to you. Also you can register your bike, it is free and easy to
