Is Your Kid the Next Big Singing Sensation? by Malia Griggs, June 13, 2011, RedbookMag.com
I lived every tween's dream yesterday at the launch event for Quaker Chewy Superstar Search, featuring the talented Nick Jonas. Quaker Chewy Oats has teamed up with Little Kids Rock, a non-profit that provides music programs for cashstrapped public schools across the country, to host a national search for a singing sensation between the ages of eight and 14. This summer, kids can work with their parents to send in song submissions and America will vote on the top five—it’s like American Idol for kids! The lucky winner gets $5,000 in cash, the chance to record a song produced by Nick, and a contract with the Jonas Group Management. When I spoke with Nick, he said music education can really shape who people are. “I find real joy in making music,” he said. “And every parent should take the time to find out what their children are passionate about and support those dreams. I know how important it was for me to grow up in a musical household so I’m really blessed to be working with little kids to make their dreams come true, too.” Got a child with major musical chops?
