Gladys Steen Hall

Student Hub

Renovation to fit 20 century The building was in 1964 at Stephen F. Austin State University to accommodate rapid growth in student enrolment while providing security to the female students it originally housed. It has seen a transformation over time. It is now used as a co-ed facility and has also become a hub for student events. To accommodate the growing needs for 21st-century education, we propose an expansion that bridges social engagement, productivity, and relaxation with economic sustainability. In this six-stage expansion, the Steen Hall will see a transformation to the building itself and the surrounding area by creating new external opportunities for external social engagement. However, the main focus of the expansion is the addition of three bands that bridge the two towers of Gladys Steen Hall together. These bands will support programs that cater to students' needs in the 21st century with amenities such as study, recreation, event, and commercial spaces.

Contextual Forces

Building Logics - Building System

Analyzed the contextual forces that influenced to build this building the way it is and the place where it is. We found different points that impressed us by exploring the contextual details beyond just location and placement. We saw political and cultural forces that affected the building program, shape, and order. These are the Contextual forces : 1- EVOLUTION 2- DESTINATION 3- ACCESSIBILITY 4- VIEWS 5- TRAFFIC

18

19

Gladys Steen Hall

Student Hub

Building Logics Analyzed the building logics, the logic that the designer has used to reach this building concept (in our opinion). The building logic inspired us to move forward in the project and changed the function of the building.

Building Logics - Building System The hall uses a modular system that provides flexible spaces. Each floor has ten modular units; each has two separate rooms with a shared facility.

These are the building logics : 1- INTEGRATION 2- BUILDING SYSTEMS 3- CIRCULATION 4- REPETITION 5- LIGHTING

Urban design

Revitalizing the core A civic center is a significant project and focal point within a community. Usually, it contains a prominent public building, a governmental structure, and a major shopping center. Based on the personal observation as well as the data available on the site of the municipality, one can argue that this type of development, where applied, lacks the following : - Economic sustainability - Social sustainability - Filing the functional gap Goyezeh Is a residential area located southeast of Jeddah and is one of the oldest parts of the city. The project is a part of the urban design in the Goyezah neighborhood. It is considered the body core, which provides a healthy lifestyle from the eating habits and the daily exercises.
