PROGRAM OUTLINE PROFESSIONAL BOOKKEEPER DIPLOMA Brief Program Description This program is designed to provide the student with an opportunity to obtain a Recognition of Achievement in bookkeeping and accounting systems in under a year. Graduates will be prepared for employment in small business, as well as mediumand large-sized corporate environments, service, professional, manufacturing or retail operations. We will work with students who wish to pursue additional courses or certifications and guide them on options available to them at that time.
Career Occupation As essential members of any organization, bookkeepers perform vital tasks in financial and administrative services. They are in demand as: general bookkeepers, accounts receivable/ payable supervisors, payroll administrators, office managers, budget co-coordinators and administrative assistants.

Admission Requirements Secondary School Diploma Grade 12 English and Mathematics or Mature Student Status. International students will have to meet the minimum proficiency requirements for Grandesco College to gain acceptance into the program. English 12 or satisfactory completion of a post-secondary equivalent from a recognized and accredited post secondary institution with a grade of C+ or better. International Students must have IELTS of 6.5+ with no band below 6.0 or TOEFL of 570+ TWE 4.5+ International students belonging to this band will be able to take our ESL + IELTS proprietary program to help them reach the requirements for the future program. * Basic proficiency in Microsfost Office programs is a recommendation
Bookkeepers perform vital tasks in financial and administrative services
Learning Objectives The Professional Bookkeeper Diploma consists of 10 courses that provide students with a sound knowledge of business concepts and accounting practice in a short time frame. Through the 10 courses, students will obtain comprehensive knowledge in financial reporting, personal income tax, accounting software and business communication. Students will learn from experienced instructors who work in the industry and are committed to helping students achieve success. Completing this certificate provides students with a pathway to Grandesco’s Diploma in Leadership and Management Studies program.
Method(s) of Evaluation* Courses in the program will utilize many different evaluation methods including, but not limited to, tests, projects, papers, online projects, presentations, and reports. Although most work will be done individually, some courses may require group projects and evaluation of papers and projects.
Program Duration Each course is offered online and face to face. The pace of the program depends on if it is taken on a full-time basis or part-time. Based on a full-time and face to face schedule of 5 courses a semester, it is anticipated a students spends 15 contact hours a week over a semester and the program can be completed in under a year, or two semsters. Total contact hours is about 400 hours for the program (this does not include homework, projects, or other work outside classroom lectures)

Some learning outcomes are: 1. Prepare effective business documents including memorandums and short reports. 2. Solve business problems using complex quantitative techniques. 3. Describe the environment that businesses operating in, the functions of management, and the role of different management disciplines. 4. Maintain the financial records of a small- and intermediate-sized business using computerized accounting software. 5. Utilize spreadsheet and other application software in day-to-day work activities. 6. Explain how effective management information systems can contribute to an organization’s success. 7. Discuss how human and interpersonal behaviour theory can be applied to maximize organizational efficiency. 8. Collect and analyze complex information to assist management in making more effective operational decisions. 9. Compute the income taxes payables for an individual or corporation applying effective tax planning strategies. 10. Manage an organization’s operating and fixed assets effectively and fund those assets with an optimal mix of debt and equity financing.

Required course materials All students should have a laptop, Microsoft Office, and may require accounting software (Sage and Quickbooks) for the accounting software systems course (althought the face to face students will have access to computers in the lab with the software). Additionally, each course will have a textbook and technology fee for access to online support and course delivery requirements. Some courses may have other fees (i.e. online business simulation).
