print guidelines FILE FORMAT All materials should be created in a page layout program. Adode InDesign is the optimum industry standard. Ads created in Microsoft Publisher or Word will not be accepted. Files should be submitted as PDFs compatible with Acrobat 4.
COLOR REQUIREMENTS Submit all materials in CMYK format. If RGB or Pantone (Spot) colors are used, we are not responsible for any problems associated with the printing of your ad. All blacks used should be single channel black. Because of the porous nature of newsprint, certain colors are harder to obtain. Use colors with a large combination of CMYK values (such as brown & dark orange) with caution. Single channel black color formula C=0, M=0, Y=0, K=100
PHOTOGRAPHS For our publication, 300 dpi and higher is acceptable for photographs. DPI stands for “dots per inch,” or how many pixels make up each square inch of the photo or file.
72 dpi
This photo would be considered low-resolution.
300 dpi
This photo would be considered high-resolution.
Photos submitted below 300 dpi are subject to “pixellation” and we are not responsible for the poor printing quality of your images.
LOGOS Logos must be submitted in vector format. Vectors are files that are made up of paths rather than pixels, so they are never low-resolution. Example vector formats: AI, EPS or PDF. Logos submitted as JPGs will only be accepted if they are at least 300dpi when no vector option is available.

print guidelines QUALITY STANDARDS The Voice-Tribune staff makes every effort to ensure the accuracy and quality of the materials we receive. Reproduction standards for newspaper publishing are strictly maintained within the parameters of the print requirements. In our experience, and the performance record of almost any business, good review of final material and adherence to requirements is the best strategy for achieving quality results. If you need any help in creating your ad or have questions in regard to ad reproduction, please feel free to contact your account executive.
GENERAL STANDARDS • The publisher reserves the right to edit or reject any material submitted for inclusion in its publications. • It is the advertiser’s responsibility to obtain permission from any person whose photograph is used in an advertisement. In case of dispute, the advertiser agrees to indemnify and hold publisher harmless for any action taken by subject(s) of said photographs. • Advertising on a “position or omit” basis is not accepted.
PRE-PRINTED ADVERTISING SECTIONS The publisher will accept pre-printed advertising that does not place the paper in violation of the second-class postal regulations. Contact your representative for cost and deadline information.
POLITICAL ADVERTISING Political advertising must be: (a) paid for in advance of publication; (b) include complete name and address of person responsible for placement; (c) if appropriate, name of the authorizing candidate; and (d) if a committee places a political ad, the name of the committee and name and address of the treasurer must be included. All political advertising will be identified by the phrase “PAID POLITICAL ADVERTISEMENT.” Earned rates apply.

Friday was all about the ladies as Churchill Downs held the 140th running of the Longines Kentucky Oaks on May 2. The finest fillies in the world competed for a $600,000 purse and the garland of lillies on the Friday before the Derby. Odds-on favorite Untapable, trained by Steve Asmussen and owned by Ron Winchell of Winchell Thoroughbreds, took home an easy 4 1/2-length victory with jockey Rosie Napravnik riding. Napravnik picked up her second Oaks victory, her first coming in 2012. Untapable beat out a 13-horse field, with Empress of Midway being scratched just before the start of the race after falling at the starting gate. Untapable won with a time of 1:48:6 before an announced crowd of 113,000.
