MORNING PRAYER ORDINARY TIME 2016 O Lord, open our lips and our mouth shall proclaim your praise. Blessed are you, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, for you have blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing. You chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world and destined us for adoption as your children. In Christ we have the forgiveness of sins, an inheritance in your kingdom, the seal of your Spirit, and in him we live for the praise of your glory. Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Blessed be God for ever. The night has passed, and the day lies open before us; let us pray with one heart and mind.
Silence is kept. As we rejoice in the gift of this new day, so may the light of your presence, O God, set our hearts on fire with love for you; now and for ever. Amen.
A psalm is read or sung (lectionary overleaf) At the end of the psalm we stand to say Glory to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning is now and shall be for ever. Amen. Between two readings a hymn may be sung. Forsake me not, O Lord; be not far from me, O my God. Forsake me not, O Lord; be not far from me, O my God. Make haste to help me, O Lord of my salvation. Be not far from me, O my God. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. Forsake me not, O Lord; be not far from me, O my God.
(from Psalm 38)
A time of informal prayer follows, then this or the collect for the day is used: Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people pardon and peace, that they may be cleansed from all their sins and serve you with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
As our Saviour taught us, so we pray Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen. The Lord bless us, and preserve us from all evil, and keep us in eternal life. Amen. Let us bless the Lord. Thanks be to God.
