Welcome The Driftwood Spars is located in the beautiful Trevaunance Cove, St Agnes, Cornwall. Whatever the time of year, we will offer you a warm and friendly welcome. It provides a relaxed environment in which you can enjoy your break in a traditional Cornish owned Pub. The 17th Century building has been a B & B and public house for many years. The name hints at its local history, the ceiling beams in the bars containing ships spars from some of the ships that have been wrecked in Trevaunance cove, the local beach. The Driftwood Spars offers 4 star guest accommodation (AA), has been ranked in the top 50 B & Bs in the UK by the Independent newspaper in 2007 and in the top 10 by CAMRA for guest accommodation. In February 2009 we were listed in the top 10 B & Bs in Coast magazine and December 2009 the same magazine listed us in the top 10 coastal pubs. In November 2008 & 2009 we were awarded a Silver Award for pub dining by Taste of the West. In April 2009 we were named CAMRA Kernow pub of the year. If you enjoy food, drink and the sea come and check us out

Kernow Pub of the Year 2009

St. Agnes is a vibrant village with a strong local community. St Agnes used to produce the best tin in the world (according to local legend) and has recently been named a World Heritage site. St Agnes is a place of contrasts that compliment - from wooded valleys and deep dark tin mines, to light airy seascapes that constantly change from a mirror of pewter, through a thousand shades of blue, to brilliant aquamarine and crashing surf. An ancient, Celtic Landscape laced with small fields, moorland, dramatic cliffs and islands carved by the sea, with the always looming, yet friendly, bulk of the Beacon in the background. The walking is stunning in and around St Agnes and we are located just off the Southwest Coastal Path.

Accommodation There are 15 bedrooms all of which are en-suite with shower or bath, some with wonderful sea views and one with a delightful half tester Victorian bed. We offer 8 doubles and a twin in the main building and the annex rooms are perfect for those looking for a quieter retreat, with the calming trickle of a stream running through the garden. For the romantics one room has a Victorian four poster bed.

Crisp linen sheets and soft eider down duvets make the beds irresistibly comfortable. Pets are welcome in all the rooms with a ÂŁ3 supplement for each night. A cot/high chair is available on request. All rooms are non smoking. Each room has colour TV, telephone, tea & coffee facilities and hair dryer. All our soaps, shampoos and body wash products are sourced from eco friendly suppliers. We take our commitment to the environment seriously.

Food Local produce is at the heart of our food ethos. Our bread is baked in the village and the village butcher delivers meats. Our fish is generally landed daily at Newlyn harbour. The Driftwood dining room has spectacular sea views and serves fantastic food within a contemporary and friendly atmosphere. As well as our light & airy dining room we also have 3 cosy bars with woodburning stoves in the winter. In the summer we have 2 beer gardens, one of which is off the coastal path with stunning sea views. Our bar menu is served daily from 12-2:30 pm and 6:30 – 9:30pm (9pm in the winter) and a regular changing specials board showcases our chef’s commitment to serving the best of seasonal, fresh local produce. We serve breakfasts daily until 10am - choose from full Cornish to smoked fish which are complimentary for our B&B customers.

Priding ourselves in serving the best of local produce

Platters of Cornish meats & cheeses, cakes & coffees are served Monday to Saturday 10am – 6pm. Also on offer are amazing handmade cupcakes from St Agnes cake maker Vanillaboo (www.vanillaboo.com) and a selection of cakes and scones for your afternoon tea (subject to availability).

Pub The Driftwood is many things, but it comes into it’s own as a pub. We have 3 cosy bars with wood burning stoves and a fantastic selection of alcohol. Our 40 bin wine list, hand picked by our food and beverage manager and bar manager, includes a special selection of Cornish and English wines and compliments our food & reflects our values. We offer 7 real ales, most of which are Cornish, with the occasional guest ale from around the country, 35 whiskeys and 15 rums plus many more alcoholic curiosities to discover. We have friendly and knowledgeable staff to serve you some of the best beer around. Our Real ale is so good that we were named CAMRA Kernow pub of the year 2009.

Music The Driftwood has been hosting live music since the 60s. It is probably one of the oldest surviving live music venues in the county. We can boast hosting Roger Taylor from Queen (many many years ago), Reef, Angus & Julia Stone, Them is Me, Feeder and many more besides. We also welcome any musicians to just come down and play acoustic music on any evening. Lou’s brew 5%

Light and hoppy with a citrus and grassy aroma. Driftwood Landlady loves light hoppy beers, this was brewed for her and is now her favourite beer!

Bluehills 4%

Light session bitter with big hop flavour. Named after the Vintage car race ‘the Lands End’ trial which takes place on the ‘Bluehills’ behind the Driftwood Pub every Easter.

Bolster’s blood 4.8%

Rich, dark, chocolaty, malty with a slightly bitter finish. Bolster was the tyrannical giant of the parish, he was slain by St Agnes who made him bleed to death into the sea.

Bawden Rocks 3.8%

A hoppy and clean flavoured bitter. Named after the Rocks located just beyond Trevaunance Cove.

Blackheads Mild 3.8%

Traditional mild with Smokey malt flavours and peppery after taste. The Blackheads are so called due to their motorcycle helmets. They are the locals who hang out at the Driftwood and ensure a warm & friendly welcome to bikers, walkers, dogs and others.

Badlands 4.8%

Strong malty bitter flavoured with ‘north down’ hops. The surfing beaches around ‘aggie’ were once known as the ‘Badlands’ when strangers dropping in on locals’ waves would soon regret their action. Luckily they’ve grown up now!

Alfie’s revenge 6.5%

Strong, tasty seasonal beer. Named after a popular character in the bar, a stuffed squirrel who even has his own page on Facebook. However, Alfie has been abducted and is suspected to be on a surf tour somewhere, hence his revenge.

Trouble & Strife 3.8% (seasonal special) A malty beer with a good hop bite. It is an amber ale made with 4 different malts; brown, chocolate, caramel & amber. Bitterness is provided by goldings & fuggles hops. Brewed to celebrate a plethora of weddings, this session ale is tasty, full of body but only 3.8%.

The Brewery We met Pete the Brewer at the St Austell Brewery beer festival in 2007 and we haven’t looked back since. Pete Martin, formerly of Bathtub Brewery, is brewing up a storm here at the Driftwood. So far he has developed 8 different brews all of them individual and very tasty, so much so that from our first year of production, we doubled the amount of beer brewed in our second year and we will double it again in our third year. Most of the beer is sold over our bar but we have just about enough to supply a few beer festivals and we have started to bottle it which is for sale at ‘Into the Brew’, our own off licence. Into the Brew stocks Driftwood ale and lots of other Cornish made food & drink. The pump clips (with the exception of Trouble & Strife, which was designed by Pete the Brewer) were designed by local artist Caroline Pedler, check out her other work at www.carolinepedler.co.uk.
