SCHOOL FACTS
Malvern Preparatory School is an independent, Augustinian school for young men in grades six through twelve. Since 1842, the School’s tradition has been to prepare young men for college, for leadership, and for life. Malvern educates its students in a caring environment focused on academics while maintaining a balance between spirituality, arts, athletics, and activities. Students are learning a foundation of knowledge today so that they may lead with integrity tomorrow. The School is located on a 103-acre campus in Malvern, Pennsylvania, a suburb residential area 20 miles west of Philadelphia. Typically, 100% of graduates attend four-year colleges.
ADMISSION/ENROLLMENT
Admission to Malvern Prep is competitive and there are predictable waitlists for each entry grade. Decisions are based on a student’s strength of transcript, teacher recommendations, and entrance exam results as well as a commitment to mission, involvement in school and community life, and demonstration of leadership potential. Current enrollment is 664 boys: 517 in the Upper School grades 9-12, 147 in the Middle School grades 6-8. Approximately 35% of students receive financial assistance to attend Malvern Preparatory School.
FACULTY
There are 73 Upper School faculty members of whom 85% hold advanced degrees. Typical class size is 15-20. Student-faculty ratio is 9:1.
ACCREDITATION
The school is accredited by the Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools and the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The school holds membership in the NAIS, PAIS, the CEEB, ACCIS, the National and Pennsylvania Associations for College Admissions Counseling, and the Augustinian Secondary Education Association.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
All students must at least successfully complete the following graduation requirements. 90% of students take more than the required credits in Science, Language, Math, and Social Studies. English - 4 Mathematics - 3 Social Studies - 2 Theology - 4 Science - 2 World Language - 2 Physical Education - .5 Health - .5 Music/Art - 1
Students are required to take six courses each year; with the possible exception of those students taking three or more AP courses. No student may take less than five courses, unless approved. A student must receive permission if he wants to take more than four AP courses. There is a Christian Service requirement for all students in grades 9-12.
ADVANCED CREDENTIAL
Advanced Credentials are the highest level of academic recognition available to students at Malvern Prep. They are meant to acknowledge a student who combines his character strengths, skill development, and commitment to Augustinian values in a way that leads to a significant and positive social impact. Students complete a rigorous application process for Advanced Credential recognition, where their research, planning, and proposal to execute those goals are evaluated. After initial approval, students engage with a mentor to work on their plan, which culminates in some form of public demonstration of learning. There are currently six Advanced Credentials available to our students, each with designated standards associated (Social Impact and Advocacy, Augustinian Leadership, Public Speaking, Design and Fabrication, Media Production, Inclusion and Belonging).
DISCIPLINE
Malvern will disclose to colleges and universities any serious disciplinary violation. We also expect and counsel our seniors to make full disclosure of any serious disciplinary violations that occur after applications have been submitted to colleges.
