The picturesque setting and extensive range of facilities at Malvern St James Girls' School makes this the perfect venue for events, functions, residential courses and conferences. Situated in the beautiful 19th century spa town of Malvern, Malvern St James was originally opened in 1862 as The Imperial Hotel, one of the grandest and most luxurious hotels in Worcestershire.
An imposing building in the continental Gothic style, lying at the foot of the magnificent Malvern Hills, Malvern St James offers a unique venue with a wide range of facilities to meet your event requirements.
Our guests tell us that MSJ’s location is one of its huge advantages, enjoying convenient transfer time from Birmingham airport, easy access by road (M5/M50), close proximity to Cheltenham and the Cotswolds and direct rail links to London and Birmingham from Great Malvern train station which is a 2 minute walk from the school.
There is parking at the main site for 30 vehicles with an additional 35 spaces at the Sports Centre. There are numerous well-known excursion destinations in the surrounding area, and the school is just a short walk to the local shops and amenities, which makes MSJ an ideal location for any meeting or event.

All our produce is locally sourced and organic where possible, and is one of the most popular elements of our school. All special dietary needs and allergies can be catered for by prior arrangement and sample menus are available upon request.

The Abbey Room is located on the upper level of the school, and as such benefits from some stunning views across the hills.
The original architectural features of this room provide a wealth of character. Spacious yet intimate, with full screen projection facilities and a refreshment area, this room suits lectures, private meetings, and conferences.
Mirroring the impressive features detailed in the York Hall, the Library is an impressive space with stunning oriel windows at either end which provides a light and spacious room. The Library is versatile with access to audio-visual equipment which provides an excellent location for workshops and seminars.
The Alice Dining Room is an impressive, purpose-built space where guests can enjoy self-service hot and cold food in the comfort of our modern, spacious dining room.
Suitable for meetings, conferences, parties and drinks receptions, this room is versatile and able to adapt to the needs of your event. The Alice Dining Room can accommodate audio-visual as required.

We have several meeting rooms available to fit to your requirements. Small spaces for as little as 5 guests are available along with meeting rooms for up to 20. These spaces benefit from access to audio visual technology and break out areas across the school if required.

Our classrooms are a great space for learning, meeting and collaborating and can be used for a number of purposes.
Most are featured on the upper floors of the school and so benefit from wonderful views and stunning scenery. Our spaces can be used for groups of up to 30 people. Several of our rooms are classed as Smart classrooms, and as such are technologically enhanced to enable enhanced teaching and learning opportunities. All rooms benefit from a projector screen and white board.

The centre benefits from ample parking, air conditioning, state-of-the-art equipment, climbing wall and a range of standard and international specification sports courts. The swimming pool is adorned with traditional murals, and is 24m x 8m in size.
Our portfolio of Sports Facilities also includes a Dance Studio, Sports Hall, floodlit synthetic pitch and The Dome, a versatile indoor sports centre which boasts a beautiful, moated garden area, perfect for outdoor events and gatherings.
MSJ Sports Facilities cater for a wide variety of sports and activities including Hockey, Lacrosse, Climbing, Badminton, Netball, Football, Rugby, Basketball, Volleyball, Tennis, Short tennis, Martial Arts, Trampolining and Squash. The facilities can be hired by sports clubs and individuals for regular or one-off bookings.
Located just 250 yards from the main building, the Music Centre is available to music groups for tuition and rehearsals.
Set in a quiet and quirky 19th century villa, this dedicated space is ideal for groups wanting a designated space for practice and/or rehearsal. Pianos, a keyboard and drum kit are all available. Please note that groups are required to provide their own handheld instruments. The facilities available at the Music Centre are detailed below.

As a Boarding School, MSJ has a unique accommodation offering that is open to the public during the school holidays of Easter, Summer and October Half Term.
The perfect venue for corporate meetings and conferences, residential courses, music and performing arts residencies, multi-sports camps and more; MSJ has a range of brilliant facilities alongside in-house catering and hospitality services to ensure that your event runs smoothly from start to finish.
Excellent facilities include Wi-Fi, common rooms and fitted kitchens. Each of the houses lies within a few minutes’ walk of the main school building and Great Malvern High Street’s shops, cafes, cinema and theatre.
All-inclusive packages are available to residential groups including full catering, classrooms and use of our sports facilities. Accommodation and catering from £49+VAT (where applicable) per person per night.

Greenslade is on a quiet residential street, less than a 5 minute walk from the train station and town centre and a short climb up to the Malvern Hills.
Facilities include a large social space with tea and coffee making facilities, a small private room which can be used as an office base, and an outside area offering a quiet place to sit and relax.
All bedrooms have a handwash basin. Shared bathrooms comprise of showers, baths and toilets. There is a laundry room with 3 washing machines and 3 dryers.

Reopened in 2021, Benhams is our most recently refurbished senior boarding house. The house is conveniently located next to the main school site and just across the road from MSJ’s Sports & Fitness Centre.
The house is able to accommodate 44 people in 37 rooms and is set across 3 floors. Benhams has a combination of single and double bedrooms and is equipped with modern facilities including 2 kitchens and a large common room; the house also benefits from 15 showers with separate toilet facilities spanning all 3 floors. There is a beautifully landscaped garden to the rear and easy access to local amenities.

Poulton spans the upper floors of the main School building, with beautiful panoramic views across the Malvern Hills.
Ideally located for any group requiring easy access to facilities onsite, Poulton offers one large common room with sofas and a dining table; one large kitchen with oven, electric hob, fridge, freezer, kettle, toaster and breakfast bar; several smaller kitchenette spaces; and laundry rooms available over the two floors.

Set in a quaint wrap-around garden with a swing set and plenty of room for outdoor activities, Batsford House offers a ‘family home’ ideal for smaller, more intimate groups.
A large common room opposite the bottom of the main sweeping staircase offers an expansive sofa and large dining table, seating up to twelve. A small downstairs kitchen hosts an electric oven and hob, microwave, under-counter fridge, chest freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer.
Bathroom facilities in Batsford are plentiful, with a guest toilet beside the front entrance as well as a two-cubicle toilet room downstairs and three-cubicle toilet room upstairs. Two-cubicle shower rooms (with additional sinks) are located next to these rooms both downstairs and upstairs.
The property has a small driveway with a wooden gate at the entrance and parking for approximately four cars.

The Mount has a wonderful homely, cosy feel, whilst still providing ample space to make the most of your stay.
The house has several large common room areas, perfect for a range of activities. The garden looks out onto the beautiful Malvern Hills and is a perfect place to relax and unwind after a busy day; it is also ideal for outdoor gatherings, small parties and games. Just a few minutes’ walk takes you to Great Malvern High Street.
The Mount has a long history; Elgar once taught music here and the house has been a home away from home for countless boarders throughout the years.
