Ski & Snowboard The cost of a ski or snowboard holiday to Bulgaria, Slovenia and Romania compares very favourably to other countries. Where Balkan Holidays really comes out on top is with our pre-bookable ski and board packages. A lift pass in some of the French or Austrian resorts, for example, can be up to three or four times the cost of a pass in Bulgaria, and we are continuing

our Free Lift Pass offer (see page 6). Compared to other destinations this makes for a big, big saving and is a vital consideration when you’re planning your winter holiday. Our equipment hire and tuition prices are similarly competitive and great value too; please remember the prices in our brochure are lower than in the resort and only apply to clients who pre-book,

First Time Ski/Board Pack For absolute beginners only, we’ve put together in one package all you will need for your first week on snow at a special introductory price. Bulgaria is known for its high standards of tuition, and the instructors will ensure that everyone has a great time. First Time Ski or Board packs are available in all resorts in Bulgaria and Slovenia. Each pack includes the following: • 6 day hire of skis or snowboard and boots • 6 day lift pass • SKI: 6 days of ski lessons, 4 hours per day (2 hours per day for Slovenia) BOARD: minimum 3 days of board lessons, 2 hours per day (see resort pages) • Ski school test certificate and diploma presentation The “First Time Ski & Snowboard” packs are only applicable to beginners (first time skiers). SNOWBOARDING We offer pre-booked hire and tuition for periods of 3 or 6 days in most resorts. If you’ve never tried this sport before you’ll be pleased to know it has a quick learning curve, although after your first try, you’ll probably have picked up quite an interesting collection of aches and bruises. However don’t give up, as by day two, having learnt the basic manoeuvres, you’ll soon acquire the confidence and control to start getting to grips with the sport. Hire and tuition prices are so cheap you’ve nothing to lose.

Borovets

Beginners A beginner is classified as someone who is taking their first steps on the slopes. There is a great temptation amongst a lot of beginners to try to move on as quickly as possible, but it’s worth remembering that those who learn all the basics properly get far more enjoyment out of their holiday.

Advanced An advanced skier/boarder will be at home on any terrain, be it on or off piste, and will always be in complete control. It is true to say that whilst none of the ski resorts featured in our brochure offer particularly extensive skiing, there is plenty to keep even an expert happy. Some of the most challenging ski runs you will find are in Bansko and Borovets.

No two "Intermediates" will be the same, as the term covers a vast range of ability. All intermediates however should be at home on a blue (easy) run and confident enough on a red (medium) run. They will have had at least a couple of weeks in Ski School, and will be able to perform linked turns and reasonable Resort

parallel turns. We would strongly recommend some additional lessons with professional ski/snowboard instructors because there is still a lot to learn as wrong techniques and bad habits picked up at this stage are very hard to get rid of.

However, for extra security, we offer holiday insurance or a piste closure policy which include the following guarantee for resorts over 1000 metres only: if there is no downhill skiing at all in your resort because of a lack of snow, you will be paid up to £50 for each day’s skiing lost up to a maximum of 10 days. Children

Old meets new in the up and coming Bulgarian resort of Bansko, where modern hotels rise above little fortified houses. A unique town centre with its quaint cobbled streets, where you can still hear the local Bansko dialect being used, and an old clock tower, where the bell has been measuring the hours for over 150 years. Skiers of all abilities are well catered for as Bansko has over 75 kilometres of marked ski runs, which are easily accessed by the modern gondola lift. As the day draws to a close, Après-ski is centred around the local “Mehanas”, friendly taverna type restaurants serving traditional Bulgarian cuisine and drinks, often with roaring log fires and live entertainment. For a truly enjoyable winter sports holiday, enhanced by warm Bulgarian hospitality, visit Bansko where you really can have the best of both worlds. During recent years, Bansko’s ski area has been continuously improved with new six-man and four-man chair lifts, a snowboarders’ half pipe facility, a fun park and a floodlit ski run that allows you to ski all the way to the edge of the town. Other improvements include snow cannons covering more than 90% of the skiing area, extra maintenance vehicles to keep the slopes in the best possible condition and extra safety installations.

PERFECT SKIING AND SNOWBOARDING In less than 20 minutes a fast gondola cable lift will take you to the modern ski centre, situated on the upper slopes. At the end of the day it is up to you to decide whether to return on the gondola or ski/board down the ski road, which marks Bansko as one of the few resorts in the world to offer this option. Bansko boasts having 90% of its slopes covered by snow cannons and these slopes are serviced by a number of chair lifts and drag lifts, including a four man chair lift with bubble shields to protect you from harsh weather conditions. Another attractive feature of this modern resort is the easy hands-free access to all lifts by SkiData chip-card ski passes. In addition to the on piste skiing, Bansko offers extreme winter sports fans a halfpipe for both skiers and snowboarders to show off their latest tricks, and a “Fun Park” full of artificial bumps and jumps. For those who do not have their own ski or

snowboard gear, you can pre-book from a choice of more than 2800 pairs of skis and more than 550 snowboards, all of which are the latest models by Atomic and Salomon. Last but by no means least, Bansko offers a unique 16 km uninterrupted run starting from Todorka Peak, the highest point in Bansko, with numerous pistes all the way down to the base station of the gondola lift. All the pistes are equipped with artificial snow machines to ensure a great skiing/boarding experience even in warmer conditions. At the end of the day there is a ski road that enables you to ski/board right into the town of Bansko.

Junior Ski Club

Bansko is a great place for first-time skiers and snowboarders, with the ULEN ski-school having some of Bulgaria’s best instructors, and the ULEN Rent-a-ski offering the latest in ski and snowboard equipment. This, combined with the wide open and attractive nursery area, has made this resort the place where many have become enchanted with the magic of winter sports and why even more keep returning year after year.

While some red runs and the Alberto Tomba black run should keep most experts busy, Bansko is probably more popular with experts for its great offerings of extreme and powder skiing. The ski and snowboard fun-park area and the half-pipe facility are popular playgrounds for experts to boast their latest tricks.

Bansko, with its biathlon and cross-country trails, is also the choice of Irina Nikulchina and Nina Kadeva, two Bulgarian women that are among the world’s top ten biathlon racers.

SKI LIFTS WORKING HOURS & SKI GUIDES The lift system operates from 8:30am till 4:30pm each day. A full day guiding services for skiers and snowboarders can be booked through ULEN ski-school.

Lift ticket (to ski Club), badge, fun pack and Special club card allowing members further discounts with their next holiday in Bansko. Open daily, 7 days a week, from 9am to 4.30pm and located right by the slopes at the top of the gondola lift. For children 4-7 years. Expert supervision, snow play, lift tickets to the club, daily tuition (1 hour per day), skis, sticks, boots, lunch (full day only) and all in an atmosphere where the emphasis is on fun. Among other Bulgarian mountain resorts, Bansko offers what is probably the most lively après-ski, because it is a combination of a modern mountain resort and a living rustic town with a population of about 10,000 people. Almost a hundred “mehana” dining places offer traditional local cuisine dishes, such as “kapama” or “Banski starets” in the atmosphere of traditional songs and dances, performed by local artists. Besides the famous local church, St. Trinity, there are many historical, architectural, and cultural monuments in Bansko, including the houses of many famous Bulgarians from the period of the Bulgarian Revival. There is also an ice-skating rink conveniently situated on the way to the gondola lift and just next door to Hotel Strazhite.

Bansko’s most popular hangout for night birds is the Amnesia disco club, which features popular music in a relaxed atmosphere. At the end of the day, for a truly happy ending, the Happy End restaurant by the gondola base station turns into a night club and the lively atmosphere there is only rivalled by the Amnesia discotheque in the centre of town. Other clubs, such as the Buddha Bar club and No Name discotheque, add a modern flavour to this town of otherwise conservative moods. Bansko’s nightlife is completed by a wide selection of pubs and bars offering variety of cocktails, live music and karaoke. For a quieter night out the Bowling arena in hotel Strazhite might be a very good alternative.

As Bansko is a small town and not just a resort area, there are plenty of shops. The old town is worth exploring for more traditional feel and lovely local souvenirs to surprise your family and friends with back home.

EUROPE'S SUNNIEST MOUNTAIN RESORT Pamporovo has a unique claim to fame - this modern winter resort is the sunniest mountain resort in Europe, boasting an average of 240 sunny days a year. In the winter, this provides an ideal combination of plenty of snow with plenty of sunshine. Pamporovo is set high in the Rhodopi Mountains, amongst magnificent pine forests and is tailor-made for winter sports. After a great day’s skiing, the après-ski in Pamporovo is fun and inexpensive with lively bars and discos, while for those wanting to sample a bit of true Bulgarian life, they can head to one of the many local folk restaurants to try the local specialities accompanied by some popular Bulgarian wine.

BEGINNERS

SNOWBOARDING

The ski school at Pamporovo is internationally renowned, and is geared to provide the best possible start for beginners. There’s tuition for four hours a day, six days a week, with ski fitting, class arranging, etc. The school meets in the Malina region, just a few minutes bus drive from the centre of the resort. There are several drag lifts on the nursery slopes, but beginners will be heading for the higher slopes on the mountain long before the week is out.

INTERMEDIATES

Children pre-book and save! If two parents book ”Full Ski” pack or “First Time Ski” pack, one child aged 4-6 may attend the ski kindergarten free or one child aged 7-11 receives a free lift pass! Children under 7 years may use the lifts for free but must be accompanied by a paying adult.

SKI KINDERGARTEN *Prices for 3 days - £53 and for 6 days - £100 Rates include: Supervision, ski pack (skis, sticks, boots), daily tuition, lunch (full days only) and games. The 37 km of marked piste really suits the intermediate skier. The triple chairlift from the Malina station to the top of Snezhanka peak can handle over 1,800 skiers an hour, which makes short work of any queues. Alternatively, a single chair runs to the middle station, from where the four man lift runs up to the peak.

Pamporovo is great for snowboarding as the nursery slopes are suitable for perfecting the techniques you can later practice on the slopes further up the mountain! Board hire, soft boots, lift pass and instruction for ages 8+ years can be booked. Please see price grid.

APRÈS-SKI Après-ski in Pamporovo is fun and inexpensive and there are discos and a number of lively bars available. While you are in Pamporovo, you really should sample the delights of the local folk restaurants that serve traditional Rhodopi specialities with some extremely palatable Bulgarian wines. In addition, there is always the ever popular Diploma Presentation Evening.

ADVANCED Advanced skiers can take the drag lift from the middle station which runs up the side of "The Wall". This is Pamporovo’s most exciting run, difficult, steep with moguls, and there’s an international slalom too.

SKI LIFTS WORKING HOURS All ski lifts operate from 8:30am till 4:30pm each day with each lift closed for half a day a week and one full day per month for technical checks.

Borovets is as well known for its great nightlife as it is for its fantastic skiing/boarding. There are a few places where you can stay out until 4 in the morning at prices which are a lot less than you would expect to pay in a club back home. For those who perhaps have a yearning to learn about Bulgaria’s varied folk traditions, there are regular folklore evenings and even a visit to a genuine Bulgarian home for a taste of home cooking and entertainment. The main nightclubs are at the Samokov and Rila hotels.

NIGHTLIFE There are plenty of restaurants and bars from cosy inns with log fire to busy bars with loud music and dancing. There are also many nightclubs, dotted around the resort. Wherever you go, the atmosphere in all venues is fantastic, with people from all over Europe mixing together and having a great time.

BEGINNERS

ADVANCED

The Borovets ski school enjoys an excellent reputation where the friendly, helpful instructors make learning a pleasure and success guaranteed. Beginners start the week on the nursery slopes outside Hotel Rila but by the end of the week everyone is heading for the gondola lift and trying something a little more challenging.

Advanced skiers/boarders can test their skills on the World Cup Competition run and enjoy skiing/boarding on the more difficult intermediate runs. There are opportunities for off-piste enthusiasts and more than enough diversions available to keep the most avid "professional" busy.

INTERMEDIATES

All ski lifts operate between 8.45am-4.30pm and are closed for half a day each week, and one full day each month for technical checks.

There is a wide variety of shops, stalls and kiosks in the village centre. The shops in the Hotel Rila and Samokov sell branded ski wear and other clothes, souvenirs, and snacks. The stalls, situated along the main street, sell a variety of skis, ski clothing, clothes, CDs and souvenirs.

MEDICAL ARRANGEMENTS

The choices for the intermediates are wide and various, with excellent skiing/boarding in the exciting Yastrebets and Markoudjik areas. The well-planned lift system includes the 5 km, 6-person Yastrebets gondola lift, which opens up a wealth of enjoyable runs, ranging from wide sunny boulevards in the Musala basin, to scenic looping trails through the trees. From the gondola taking you to the top you can try one of the longest downhill runs in Bulgaria, as well as some great skiing on the slopes of the wind-free basin underneath Musala peak.

Borovets opens early and closes late. Four runs are open at night with illumination and sound. All you need is to purchase a night pass valid from 6 pm. The runs are open until 10 pm every day. Night skiing is not included in the pre-bookable lift pass and other prebookable ski packs.

In Borovets there is a round-the-clock mountain rescue service, ambulance, clinic (with doctor and nurse) plus first aid service on all ski slopes; X-ray facilities are also available in Borovets and the town of Samokov. Kranjska Gora is an ideal ski resort offering everything you need from skiing to ski jumping, tobogganing and cross country skiing, and is a base for exploring the Julian Alps over 810 metres above sea level. It is located in North West Slovenia near the border with Austria and Italy, and touches Triglav National Park to the South. With its great selection of hotels, restaurants, casinos and exciting events, Kranjska Gora offers ample opportunities for those seeking action and entertainment. One of the many reasons for its continued popularity must be attributed to the easy access to the village itself, as well as the slopes, and because of their altitude they offer favourable weather and snow conditions. Suitable for all levels of skiers from tentative beginners who can take lessons from any of the many instructors in the resort, right through to experienced skiers seeking an adrenaline challenge throughout its 30 km of pistes and 40 km of cross country trails.

Kranjska Gora is ideal for beginners. The two nursery slopes and four more gentle runs are served by six lifts, and there is a well-organised ski school with English speaking instructors.

EUROPE'S MOST PICTURESQUE SKI RESORT Bled is a picturesque old spa town set on the edge of a lake. It has all the right ingredients for a memorable holiday - amazing natural beauty, good quality accommodation and service and the famous island in the middle of the lake with its baroque church whose bell, when rung, is said to make wishes come true. All guests are taken to Bohinj to ski by a local ski bus. Our guests staying in Bled ski in Vogel ski area (45 min from Bled).

SLOVENIA'S premier SKI RESORT Bohinj is a mighty glacier situated on the edge of the Triglav National Park. The area offers breathtaking views of the Julian Alps mirrored in the tranquil lake below, combined with a range of activities which nonskiers can also enjoy. The variety of runs are ideal for beginners and intermediate skiers and there are some excellent cross country tracks through the Pokljuka Plateau and exciting guided ski tours through the Julian Alps. INTERMEDIATES The great variety of well-marked red runs and compact system of chair and drag lifts make all of the resorts ideal for improving your skiing confidence. Intermediates will find interesting skiing on Mt. Vitranc or on the shorter wooded slopes down towards Podkoren. Alpine skiers and snowboarders can test the Zlatnik slope and the more challenging runs on Vogel.

ADVANCED Experienced skiers should head for the steep black runs of the Podkoren Mountain, situated 3 km to the west of Kranjska Gora, for a chance to tackle the World Cup Slalom run. High above the Bohinj lake towers Mount Vogel, one of the highest alpine ski centres. It has an excellent 8.5 km run going over the back of the mountain and descending to the magnificent lakeside area below.

WORLD CUP ALPINE SKIING - VITRANC CUP Kranjska Gora owes its reputation as a first class ski resort to its World Cup alpine skiing races. Each winter the steep slopes of Mount Vitranc host two World Cup events in the alpine - men’s slalom and giant slalom.

SNOWBOARDING Kranjska Gora is a great place for beginners and there is some excellent tuition available. The area around Bled and Bohinj offers some interesting terrain for freeriders and the chance to try some adventurous jumps.

SKI LIFTS All ski lifts operate between 9am-4pm, and in Kranjska Gora you can also enjoy night skiing between 7-10pm.

CROSS COUNTRY It is no exaggeration to say that this is the place for cross country skiing. There is the world renown 40 km trail which starts from Kranjska Gora, goes into Italy and Austria before returning to Kranjska Gora. A variety of tracks are marked in the vicinity of Bled centre and there is also a lovely 10 km cross country run extending from Bohinjska Bistrica to the impressive Bohinj Lake. Numerous trails in Vogel, the Pokliunk Plateau and Rubno Polje host the Country Skiing World Cup each year and over 60 km of well maintained trails are open to visitors.

DOG SLEDGE RACES Kranjska Gora has joined the company of several famous ski resorts in organising sled dog races - an exciting experience for both competitors and spectators.

SLEDGING Sledging is a great way to end a fun-filled day in the snow, an activity not to be missed if you want to truly

experience Kranjska Gora. The terrain vehicles will bring you below the three borders or the Vrsic pass.

SNOWMOBILING Snowmobiles can be hired in Kranjska Gora just for the fun of it, for tours along a maintained circular route, or for breathtaking panorama tours to the surroundings in the company of a guide.

ICE SKATING In the centre of Lake Bled there is an open air ice rink, as well as one in Kranjska Gora located near Ramada Hotel & Suites Kranjska Gora.

Après-ski Kranjska Gora is a great place to let your hair down after a hard day on the slopes. Its wonderful bars and restaurants offer a fantastic atmosphere at a fraction of the price you can expect to pay back home and if you fancy a flutter, you can try your luck at the local

casino. There are weekly ski parties, snow rafting and tobogganing. Beautifully complemented by its magical setting, Bled offers all the amenities of a modern ski resort - excellent choice of restaurants, lively bars, discos and even a casino for that extra bit of fun. When the water of the lake freezes over, you can go skating or take a short cut to the famous church in the middle of the lake.

EXCURSIONS There are various half and full day excursions available for those who want to get out and about and see some more of what this wonderful part of Europe has to offer. General Information Baggage allowance & ski/board carriage Each carrier has weight and ski carriage limitations and we have to carefully control the amount of baggage and ski equipment you take on board. On our charter flights the allowance per person is: hold luggage up to 20 kg (certain carriers restricted to 1 piece), infants 10 kg, hand luggage - 1 piece weighing up to 5 kg (excluding infants). If you take your own skis / snowboard or boots on holiday, there are the following charges: For customers travelling to Bulgaria it is £30 per person (if you book early you can get 50% discount). This must be pre-booked, otherwise acceptance at the airport cannot be guaranteed. The ski / snowboard carriage (storage in resort not included, must be booked separately) allowance is 1 bag to hold a pair of boots and 2nd bag for either one pair of skis & poles or one snowboard and the weight in total must not exceed 15 kg. Scheduled flights • BULGARIA AIR (FB) - TO SOFIA Baggage allowance excluding skis / snowboard is 23 kg. For ski / snowboard carriage & excess luggage call our reservation department. Seats together, extra legroom and emergency exit seats are available on some of our charter flights to Bulgaria only. You will be informed of your seat number on arrival at check-in. Please note seats together may be across the aisle. Some extra legroom seats are adjacent to the emergency exits. It is a Civil Aviation Authority requirement that customers aged 12 years and over occupy these seats. For safety reasons, these are only available to passengers who are able bodied and of suitable size. Extension seatbelts can not be provided on emergency exit rows. You must have no medical conditions and, in the opinion of the cabin crew or checkin staff, have the strength and full mobility to open the emergency exit door. Holiday Information catering accommodation is provided with a kitchenette. In some hotels all meals are served buffet style, and when this is known in advance it is detailed in the brochure. Please note however that our suppliers reserve the right to change the meal basis from buffet style to table service or vice versa. The choice of meals for vegetarians or those requiring other special diets is very limited, usually restricted to salads and omelettes. EARLY AND LATE SEASON HOLIDAYS Our prices show especially good holiday value early and late in the season. However, as you would expect, not all hotels, resort facilities, restaurants, night clubs and children's activities may be available at these times due to poor weather conditions and/or lack of support. Local suppliers reserve the right, subject to weather and visitors in resort, to either withdraw or reduce the services provided. This could be due to cleaning, renovation or as a result of local conditions and Balkan Holidays cannot be held responsible. Please also note that alternative hotels (of the same category to those booked or higher) may be provided without notice when the resorts are not full, or on occasion at other times. CURTAILMENTS Should you need to curtail your holiday, Balkan Holidays will endeavour to fly you back to the UK on the earliest possible flight with available seats. However this may not be to your original departure airport and Balkan Holidays cannot be liable for an onward transfer. In such circumstances it may be necessary to seek the assistance of your insurance company. Curtailment charge for a flight with BH AIR is £75.00, if your flight is with a scheduled airline, charges will depend on the terms and conditions of carriage of the airline in question.

Booking Conditions Your Commitment To Us 1. Making A Booking And Payment At the time of booking you are required to pay either a deposit, if your booking is made more than 8 weeks before departure, or the full cost of the package holiday together with any pre-booked extras shown separately on your booking confirmation if you book within 8 weeks of departure, plus insurance premium if required. The value of the deposit will be £140 per person for all holidays, with the exception of those travelling to Slovenia and on certain flights to Bulgaria, when the deposit will be increased depending on the airline and will vary by departure. The deposit is required for all persons who are two years of age and over at the time of return from the holiday; no deposit is payable for infants. When you make your booking you guarantee that you have the authority to accept the terms of these booking conditions on behalf of your party. As soon as the booking has been made, payment card authorisation for the deposit, or full payment if booking within 8 weeks of departure, will be cleared. We will then issue a confirmation invoice whereby a contract exists between us, and all conditions became binding on us both. If you book through one of our authorised travel agents, all monies paid to the agent in respect of a contract with an ATOL holder is at all times held by the agent on behalf of the ATOL holder (pipeline monies). No employee of this company has the right to vary these booking conditions. Your contract with Balkan Holidays is governed by English law and is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. If the confirmation invoice is not exactly in accordance with your request, and / or the costing is incorrect, please notify us at once. If such notification is not received within 14 days of issue, we regret that it may harm your rights if we are not notified of

any inaccuracies within 14 days of issuing your confirmation invoice. If the price shown on the invoice is incorrect compared to the applicable price, this will be deemed a mistake. We will be entitled to cancel or amend the booking and re-invoice at the correct price. We will have the right to rectify any mistake up to 56 days before departure. If We Change Your Booking It is unlikely that we will have to make any changes to your travel arrangements, but we do plan the arrangements many months in advance. Occasionally, we may have to make changes and we reserve the right to do so at any time. Most of these changes will be minor and we will advise you or your travel agent of them at the earliest possible date. We also reserve the right in any circumstances to cancel your travel arrangements. For example, if the minimum number of clients required for a particular travel arrangement is not reached, we may have to cancel it. However, we will not cancel your travel arrangements less than 8 weeks before your departure date, except for reasons of force majeure or unusual circumstances we could not have foreseen or failure by you to pay the final balance. If we are unable to provide the booked travel arrangements, except in the case of a minor change, you can either have a refund of all monies paid or accept an offer of alternative travel arrangements of comparable standard from us, if available (we will refund any price difference if the alternative is of a lower value). If it is necessary to cancel your travel arrangements, we will pay to you compensation as set out in this clause. In accordance with EU Regulation 2111/2005 we are required to advise you of the actual carrier operating your flight / connecting flight / transfer. We do this by listing carriers to be used or likely to be used as follows: Bulgaria Air, Norwegian, Enterair, Jet2, Adria, Tarom, Easyjet, Wizzair as possible and in all cases at check-in or at the boarding gate. Any changes to the actual airline after you have received your tickets will be notified to you as soon as possible and in all cases at check-in or at the boarding gate. Such a change is deemed to be a minor change. Other examples of minor changes include alteration of your outward / return flights by less than 12 hours, changes to aircraft type, changes of departure / arrival airport between Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton or Plovdiv and Sofia, and vice versa, change of accommodation to another of the similar standard. If we make a major change to your holiday, we will inform you or your travel agent as soon as reasonably possible, if there is time before your departure. You will have the choice of either accepting the change of arrangements, accepting an offer of alternative travel arrangements of comparable standard from us, if available and at the applicable price (we will refund any price difference if the alternative is of a lower value), or cancelling your booked holiday and receiving a full refund of all monies paid. If you fail to follow this simple procedure we will have been deprived of the opportunity to investigate and rectify your complaint whilst you were in resort and this may affect your rights under this contract. There may be times when the local representative, agent or staff member is unable to resolve your complaint immediately. Whilst we appreciate this may be frustrating, we do expect you to act in a reasonable manner towards our staff and we will take action against anyone who displays intimidating or threatening behaviour. Balkan Holidays LTD cannot accept liability in respect of any claims or complaints which are not notified to ourselves and any supplier involved entirely in accordance with this clause. We have no control over the behaviour of persons staying or visiting your holiday accommodation (including persons who have themselves booked through Balkan Holidays) & we are not responsible for any withdrawal or impairment of facilities or other loss or damage caused by them. 9. ABTA We are a Member of ABTA, membership number V089X. We are obliged to maintain a high standard of service to you by ABTA’s Code of Conduct. We can also offer you an arbitration scheme for the resolution of disputes arising out of this contract. The scheme is arranged by ABTA and administered independently. It is a simple and inexpensive method of arbitration on documents alone with restricted liability on you for costs. The upper limit on claims is £5,000 per person and £25,000 per booking form. The scheme doesn’t apply to claims which are solely in respect of physical injury or illness or their consequences. It can however deal with claims which include an element of minor injury or illness subject to a limit of £1,500 on the amount the arbitrator can award per person in respect of this element. Your request for arbitration must be received by ABTA within eighteen months of the date of return from holiday. For injury and illness claims, you can request the ABTA Mediation Procedure and we have the option to agree to mediation. Further information on the Code and ABTA’s assistance in resolving disputes can be found on www.abta.com. 10. Our Liability To You (I). We accept responsibility for the package travel arrangements which we agree to provide or arrange for you prior to your holiday as an organiser under the Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992 as set out below. Subject to these conditions, if we or our suppliers perform or arrange your contracted package holiday negligently, taking into account all relevant factors (e.g. the procedures set out in the complaints procedure as set out in section 7 and the extent to which our or our employees or suppliers negligence affected the overall enjoyment of your holiday), we will pay you appropriate compensation, if this has affected the enjoyment of your holiday arrangements. We also accept responsibility for what our employees, agents and suppliers do or do not do, providing they were at the time acting within the scope of their employment. Please note that we will not be liable for any injury, illness or death or consequent losses suffered by you or any member of your party unless you are able to prove that such injury or illness or death was caused by lack of reasonable care and skill on the part of ourselves or our suppliers in the performance of our obligations under our contract with you. And in all claims of whatever nature we will not be liable where the alleged loss or damage results from any of the following; (a) the fault of the person(s) affected or any member(s) of their party or (b) the fault of a third party not connected with the provision of your holiday which we could not have predicted or avoided or (c) an event or circumstances which we or the supplier of the service(s) in question could not have predicted or avoided even after taking all reasonable care (d) the fault of anyone who was not carrying out work for us (generally or in particular) at the time. In respect of travel by air, sea and rail, the extent of our liability will in all cases be limited as if we were carriers in accordance with the limitation of damage provisions under the appropriate Conventions, which include The Warsaw / Montreal Conventions (international travel by air); The Athens Convention (with respect to sea travel); The Berne / Cotif Convention (with respect to rail travel) and The Paris Convention (with respect to accommodation arrangements). Subject to our reasonable discretion, we will provide advice, guidance and initial financial assistance with legal costs in bringing an action against a third party to any client who, through misadventure, suffers death, illness or injury during their holiday arising out of an activity which does not form part of their holiday arrangements or excursion offered through our representatives or agents. All assistance, financial or otherwise, is subject to a limit of £5,000 per booking. In addition, we shall be entitled to recoup any costs we actually incur from you in the event of a suitable insurance policy being in force or a successful claim for costs being made against any third party. (iv). Prompt assistance in resort. If the contract we have with you is not performed or is improperly performed as a result of failures attributable to a third party unconnected with the provision of the services, or as a result of failures due to unusual and unforeseeable circumstances beyond our control, the consequences of which could have been avoided even if due care had been exercised, or an event which we or our suppliers, even with all due care, could not foresee or forestall, and you suffer an injury or other material loss, we will offer you such prompt assistance as is reasonable in the circumstances. (vi). In all cases except where personal injury, illness or death results, our liability is limited in total to twice the package holiday price of the persons affected. (vii). In addition, we will not be liable for (i) where you do not enjoy your holiday or suffer any problems due to something about which you did not tell us when you booked your holiday and where the problems you

General Conditions and Information 11. Purpose Of Travel All arrangements shown in this brochure are intended solely for leisure purposes and our negotiations with the various overseas authorities have been conducted on this basis. Due to this and the regulations governing the issue of visas, it is not normally possible to use these holidays for the purpose of business or attending conventions or congresses. Should you wish to travel for reasons other than leisure, please advise us of your requirements. Hotels And Resorts Where particular reference is made to accommodation categories, these are part of a classification system officially recognised in the country concerned. Please remember that there is no International standard, and therefore variation does exist from one country to another. This is basic and no-frills, but good value for money. You will not have a TV or phone and rooms and bathrooms tend to be small. Perfect for the value-conscious skiers. This is standard accommodation with in-house facilities. Rooms generally have both a TV and phone. Please read through the descriptions carefully, as some properties have better rooms with fewer facilities and vice versa. and Modern hotels with a wide range of facilities. Rooms and bathrooms are more spacious and well-equipped, and the hotel is usually conveniently located to the local resort amenities. If comfort and convenience are just as important as the skiing, go for this standard of accommodation! Certain hotels fall between two categories: here we have added a plus to aid your decision-making. Self-catering apartments have a kitchenette with 2-3 hot plates (not oven), fridge and are basically equipped, with cutlery, crockery, etc. Some apartments store kitchen utilities at the reception and are available upon request. Bed linen and bath towels are provided. Cleaning before your arrival is included. The extra bed is usually a convertible sofa bed (camp bed) for 1 or 2 persons in the living room. It can be replaced by a baby cot but the rooms can not take both. Baby cots are not available for hire in most of the apartments, but you can take your own travel cot. Some apartments require a holding deposit upon arrival which will be refunded in full at check out, minus the cost of any breakages that may occur during your holiday. Important: Often descriptions of hotels and resorts include the mention of sports and entertainment, but the availability of these and other amenities can sometimes be influenced by weather conditions and the number of visitors - particularly at the beginning and end of the season. RESORT DEVELOPMENT AND NOISE Construction works and noise are almost unavoidable in certain developing resorts. Unfortunately such developments are not under our control. It is possible that there may be building work in the vicinity of your holiday accommodation, or in the resort area. As is the custom, work may start early in the day. Unfortunately, it is not always possible to foresee the nature and extent of such work, so please bear with us over these problems, as after all they are being done for the ultimate benefit of holidaymakers. If we are informed of any building works at or close to your accommodation that may affect the enjoyment of your holiday, we will do our best to forewarn you about it prior to your departure. Please note that such works may not be carried out by the providers of accommodation featured in our brochure, and maybe outside of their control. We would urge you to read the resort and hotel descriptions carefully to identify sources of noise which exist or might expect to exist, i.e. roads, bars, discos etc. However it is impossible to predict noise created by individuals, machinery or traffic, i.e. temporary noise disturbances. Live music/ noise from bars which are adjacent or part of any properties we feature may extend their opening hours and opening times may differ from those published. In some resorts, the provision of roads, power and water supplies etc. does not always keep pace with the demands of rapid tourist development, so you may experience power cuts or problems with, for example, plumbing or drainage. In addition, during prolonged periods of hot weather the resort authorities sometimes find it necessary to conserve water supplies by implementing a "regime" with intermittent interruptions to supply. However, they always do their best to give advance notice of such interruptions and minimise inconvenience to holidaymakers. 13. Accommodation All our prices are based on sharing twin or double-bedded rooms or four bedded chalets, studios or apartments. Single room supplements are shown under the holiday descriptions. Some accommodation can take an extra occasional bed to accommodate a third person. This will be the camp bed or sofa type, and will be more suited to a child than an adult. Where an extra bed is added this may limit the available space. The extra bed can be replaced by a cot for an infant, but rooms cannot take both. Cot charges must be paid locally. We do, however, have some larger twins which can accommodate a third adult. Whenever family rooms are available, the appropriate supplement is shown. This type of accommodation normally consists of a double bedroom and open plan adjoining sitting room. The extra beds will be either sofa or camp bed type. Some furniture may be substituted for the extra beds. These rooms are ideal for families with young children.

Checking In & Checking Out - Times vary slightly from resort to resort, but generally are as follows: check in from 14:00 (on occasion, it may be later); check out on the last day of your holiday is 10:00 in apartments and midday in hotels. In some cases you may have to wait to access your accommodation depending on your flight arrival time or have several hours before your homeward flight departs. Wherever possible a room will be made available for changing and storing luggage. Sometimes a hotel may let you keep your room (arrange in resort) at a local charge. This is not normally possible with apartments. Bathrooms - A typical bathroom is small and consists of a toilet, a basin and a shower with no curtain or tray, and a central drain in the floor. This is normal! If you need a larger bathroom we suggest choosing a 4 or 5 star property and booking a room with a bath. All rooms with bath have a shower over the bath. Lifts - If a hotel offers lift facilities, be aware that it may be withdrawn from time to time for essential maintenance work. Please note that the withdrawal of such facilities is outside of our direct control. Many lifts offered may commence on a floor other than ground level and may be reached by stairs. Wi-Fi - Where Wi-Fi or internet access is indicated in a property description, this belongs to the property and its availability is outside our control. No guarantee is given or implied that it will be operative during your holiday, you will not be advised in advance if this facility is removed and no compensation or refund will be paid if it is not available for whatever reason. Important: If circumstances beyond our control make it necessary, we reserve the right, sometimes without prior notification, to provide accommodation on your arrival in the holiday centre in an alternative hotel of the class confirmed to you or higher. This is particularly likely for early and late departures when not all the resort hotels are open. If we are aware of such changes before your departure we shall inform your travel agent, or yourself in the case of a direct booking. This will not affect your rights under this contract. 14. Flight Only Bookings Where you have booked a flight only, we will be acting only as the booking agent for the airlines providing the flight and therefore accept no liability whatsoever for any death, personal injury, loss or damage of whatever kind, unless caused by our own negligence. Our suppliers have their own conditions of carriage / booking conditions, and you will be bound by these. Please see section 10 above for details of the relevant conventions which could apply. Note, from time to time delays do occur. As booking agent for the airline concerned, we are not obliged to provide meals / refreshments, however where possible, we shall try to make sure refreshments are provided by the airline concerned.
