Christmas Markets Every year, more and more visitors are enjoying the unique festive charm of European Christmas markets. There are few things more magical than the atmosphere of a traditional Christmas market. It’s a wonderful experience for all ages, a chance to indulge in the good old-fashioned Christmas spirit! Characterised by their own distinctive settings and regional traditions, each market provides a special atmosphere. The twinkling scenes of festively decorated squares with their enchanting market stalls and glittering Christmas trees set against the backdrop of beautiful historic buildings, let visitors relive the magic of yesteryear. The aromas of roasted chestnuts, grilled sausages, mulled wine and delicious biscuits, fill the crisp air and help to create that very special yuletide ambience.
Traditional German Christmas Markets The first day of advent is traditionally the day when Germany’s Christmas markets open with an infectious festive atmosphere. The landscape is filled with wooden stalls offering unique hand carved Christmas gifts and special seasonal treats such as baked apples, sugared almonds, marzipan shapes and hot, spicy mulled wine.
Totensonntag - German rememberance day is on Sunday 24th November. The Christmas markets and most shops will be closed on this day. Winter Breaks - Escape the daily routine this winter and discover one of our many exciting European winter breaks with Fred.\ Germany - Germany has many beautiful destinations waiting to be discovered, and they are particularly attractive during the winter months when the whole country is usually covered in snow, making for an enchanting city break. We have included some of the most popular and exciting cities including Berlin, Munich, Hamburg and Cologne, and you can find more great recommendations and useful information on our website.
Most people know the famous markets of Cologne, Nuremberg and Munich, which are some of Germany’s oldest and best known Christmas markets. There are many other beautiful German markets and we offer a wide range of regional markets as a more intimate alternative. Rothenburg ob der Tauber offers a beautiful setting for the market set in a walled medieval city and surrounded by buildings dating back to the Middle Ages. If you can’t make the markets then you can always visit the German Christmas Museum throughout the year and also the world famous Käthe Wohlfahrt “The world famous Christmas store” which offers festive magic throughout the year.
Austria - Vienna and Salzburg - The inspiring city of Vienna makes

Take in the breathtaking scale of the Dom (Cathedral), a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Germany’s most visited architectural monuments. Try to take in a service at the famous cathedral. The cathedral is the largest Gothic church in Northern Europe and one of the most visited attractions in Germany. One of its highlights is the Shrine of the Three Holy Kings and the cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Cologne is a city of churches and full of historic treasures; see the medieval city wall which encloses twelve large Roman churches or visit the 900-year old Town Hall. Stroll along the Rhine Promenade and have a ‘Kölsch’ (local beer) in one of the typical breweries or eat a ‘Halve Hahn’ (rye bread roll with Gouda cheese, onions and mustard), a regional speciality. If the conditions allow it may be possible to climb the tower (for a fee) – it’s not for the faint-hearted as there are over 500 steps! Visit the chocolate museum – learn about the history of chocolate and how it used to be made. The museum has a number of old chocolate dispensing machines and old fashion moulds. A great place to relax with a warming cup of hot chocolate after visiting the markets. Cologne is a well-known shopping destination. Hohe Strasse and Schildergasse house the large department stores and shops like H&M, Zara and Mango.

Germany’s capital is a city of culture and history, with an abundance of things to see and do. The legendary Brandenburg Gate, the bustling Potsdamer Platz, or the glass-domed Reichstag are highly recommended. These impressive buildings give way to an oasis of gardens and lakes, but also to a unique atmosphere as fascinating culturally, historically as well as artistically. Berlin is a must for history lovers: the capital’s past, from FritzNational Socialism to the post-war divide is present in theErkner memory and Schloßetched into the cityscape. For those keen to spend a few Euros, Berlin has Park something for everyone. The shopping boulevard Kurfürstendamm and KaDeWe, the biggest department store in continental Europe, are adjacent AltMoabit together with international shops, restaurants and movie theatres. Welcome to Munich - Bavaria’s beautiful capital! Brimming with exciting attractions, cultural delights, glorious historical architecture, great Christmas shopping opportunities and vibrant Christmas markets, Munich really does have something for everyone. Munich is a cosmopolitan city that retains its traditional charm of a provincial town and cultural wealth, whilst exuding a warm Mediterranean flair. There are fascinating museums and sights. With its imposing dome-topped towers, the ‘Frauenkirche’ is Munich’s most famous landmark. Apart from these, Munich offers plenty of outdoor winter Nymp henb urger activities. Watch the ice-skaters on the Nymphenburg canal or join in the sports on the fairytale ice-rink. Enjoy tasty Bavarian specialities on the old outdoor gourmet food market Viktualienmarkt and, of course, Mars-no visit would be complete without a ‘Maß’ of beer!

Nuremberg Germany
Northern Bavaria’s historic gem boasts a unique mixture of traditional and modern culture and is believed to be one of Germany’s most romantic cities. The city is famous for its Christkindlesmarkt on the Hauptmarkt square in the Old Town with the medieval charm and aroma of gingerbread, Nuremberg bratwurst and glühwein. But there is much more to the city than this. The medieval Old Town is encircled by an ancient city wall and overlooked by the towering Kaiserberg Castle. A large part of its thousand year of history can be seen and experienced. Gothic churches, splendid patricians’ houses, historic sights and some of Germany’s most important museums are situated throughout the town. Nuremberg boasts an atmosphere created by a blend of medieval and modern elements, waiting for you to discover.
29 November – 24 December 2013 Nuremberg remains one of the most authentic German markets. A great deal of lovingly decorated wooden stalls offer a grand selection of traditional spicy gingerbread, other regional delicacies as well as decorative arts and crafts. Every year the winner of the ‘most beautifully decorated Christmas hut’ contest is awarded a golden ‘Zwetschgenmännchen’, a traditional figure made from prunes. There is also the charming Children’s Christmas Market where historic carousels, a steam train and a variety of other activities entertain young and old.

An international Christmas atmosphere is sure to be found around the Town Hall where Nuremberg’s many sister cities from all around the world present their own Christmas traditions. Opposite the main train station is the Craftsmen’s Courtyard, with many different handicrafts, local delicacies and Christmas exhibitions. Explore Nuremberg’s many historical sights, including the impressive castle and mighty Frauenkirche. Don’t miss the famous Toy Museum featuring an impressive collection of tin soldiers and antique dolls. Explore the natural beauty of Franconia’s wine country and visit the beautiful cities of Bamberg, Rothenburg and Würzburg. Visit one of the many seasonal concerts in one of Nuremberg’s Old Town churches. Every year, people from all over the world visit Germany’s most famous Christmas Market on Nuremberg’s Main Market Square. The Christmas Market with about 180 wooden booths deliberately restricts itself to traditional Christmas goods: spicy gingerbread, Zwetschgenmännle (little prune people), roast sausages, mulled wine, toys, Christmas decorations and arts and crafts attract about 2 million visitors to the market every year. Gastronomy: ‘Drei im Weggla’ – ‘three sausages in a roll’, that’s the local name for three Nuremberg roast sausages in a roll. Nuremberg roast sausages are renowned far beyond the boundaries of Franconia. And now the name “Nuremberg Roast Sausage’ is even protected and restricted to the City of Nuremberg by an EU regulation!

Welcome to one of the most multicultural cities in Germany. By day, Frankfurt’s futuristic and imposing skyline, nicknamed ‘Mainhattan’, represents a bustling business and trade fair centre at the hub of Europe’s financial affairs. Many people associate this image with Frankfurt am Main. By night, the towering cityscape sparkles romantically. Home of apple wine, Frankfurter sausages and Europe’s busiest airport, Frankfurt is also proud of its most famous son, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. You can find welcoming Ebbelwei pubs in the core of the thriving city centre, as well as a fair share of sights and museums, such as the Kaiserdom or the Paulskirche.
27 November – 22 December 2013 Frankfurt Christmas Market is steeped in history and traditions. The beautiful scenery is completed by an enormous, twinkling fir tree in the Römerberg market place in front of the medieval Town Hall. The Christmas market offers a festive ambiance, featuring a brass band, toys and crafts unique to the region and vendors selling only the finest treats like hot apple wine and the regional marzipan delicacy ‘Bethmännchen’. Frankfurt Christmas Market is one of the most important Christmas markets in Germany. The elaborate and creative stand decorations, the scenic surroundings of the Römerberg and Paulsplatz and the huge Christmas tree also make it one of its most beautiful.

Stuttgart Germany
Baden-Württemberg’s vibrant capital lives up to its reputation as a city of music with regular performances from the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra. With its contrast between old and new, walking through the centre of Stuttgart is like strolling through architectural history. Stuttgart’s three Royal Palaces are beautiful examples of the city’s regal history. Stuttgart is one of Germany’s largest manufacturing cities but still, two-thirds of the land inside of the city is dedicated to parks, gardens and woodland.
27 November – 23 December 2013 Stuttgart´s Christmas Market is one of the oldest and largest in Europe. More than 200 beautifully decorated wooden stalls welcome visitors with angelic figures and fir branches laden with sparkling baubles. The ‘Wintertraum’ winter wonderland on the Schlossplatz forms a fabulous backdrop and creates an enchanting medieval Christmas atmosphere, accompanied by the scent of cinnamon, candied almonds and mulled wine and the sound of Christmas carols, adding to the magical festive flair.

Take a Harbour Cruise around the wharfs where some of the world’s largest ships are built. Get up early on a Sunday morning (5am-9:30am) and head for the Fish Market which is colourful, boisterous and unique to Hamburg. Visit the historic Speicherstadt, the 19th century store house built on oak poles, where you can find various museums and exhibitions. Take a walk in one of Hamburg’s beautiful parks such as the City Park, Hayns Park or the Botanical Garden. Visit the impressive eclectic building (City Hall) dating back to 1897. You can find the State government and the Hamburg Parliament in the interior. Winter Dom in November: Hamburg’s Dom offers colourful booths, nostalgic carousels and high-techrides. Hamburg’s visitors can have a wonderful time walking the three kilometre long Dom with its many exciting sights. Christmas Parade: There is a Christmas parade through the festively decorated city centre every Saturday during Advent. It’s a magical time for young and old alike in Hamburg’s theatres or on a ‘fairytale ship’ anchored along the Jungfernstieg promenade. Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg: The largest model railway in the world, and one of the most successful permanent exhibitions in Northern Germany. Christmas Market on the Hamburg Rathausmarkt: The city’s main Christmas market is located on the Rathausmarkt. Every alley has its own theme, like ‘Naschgasse’, where you can find many different sweets.

Every day at 4pm, 6pm and 8pm, Santa Claus flies high over the market at the Town Hall in his reindeer sleigh, telling the story of Rudolph the red nosed reindeer. Enjoy the magical atmosphere emphasised by the ‘Christkind’, waving at the crowd whilst standing on a basket under the moving sleigh. Santa Pauli is Hamburg’s hottest Christmas market, right in the heart of the red light district of St. Pauli. From 21 November to 23 December 2013 the erotic Christmas market offers all from the ‘special’ present to the to a cozy winter lounge and a strip’ tent.’

Dresden Germany
Located on the River Elbe, Dresden is a city steeped in tradition and historic character. Saxony’s jewel boasts a great variety of attractions and carries visitors away by combining arts, architectural sights and charming landscape. The city has been meticulously restored to its former glory and shines in all its Saxon splendour and Baroque beauty. Christmas transforms the city into a winter wonderland; a trip to Dresden is always a fantastic experience!
27 November – 24 December 2013 Dresden’s ‘Striezelmarkt’ is one of Germany’s oldest and most beautiful Christmas markets, named after the city’s famous culinary attraction; the ‘Christstollen’. It holds a great variety of stalls and also displays the world’s tallest Christmas pyramid. There are many other markets to be found around the city, each of them with their own intimate flair, such as the charming markets in the stable yards at Residenzschloss, the famous Frauenkirche or the intimate Christmas market in the former village centre of Loschwitz.

Don’t miss the striking Semper Opera House, a beautiful building with a breathtaking interior. Music lovers should not miss the experience of a unique performance. Marvel at the Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady), an impressive symbol of international reconciliation after World War II. Visit the Zwinger, a perfect example of late baroque architecture, with its Old Masters Picture Gallery, the Armoury and an impressive Porcelain Collection. Dresden is proud to have the oldest Christmas Market in Germany - the first Dresden Christmas market took place in 1434. The traditional name of Dresden’s fair is ‘Striezel Markt’, which refers to a sweet Christmas cake called ‘Striezl’ or ‘Stollen’. This fruitcake, filled with nuts, raisins, spices and sprinkled with icing sugar, is the culinary highlight of the Dresden Christmas market.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber Germany
Cobblestone streets, impressive parapets and proud towers – as you enter through one of the old gates, visitors immediately feel as though they have stepped into a painting or the pages of a book. Rothenburg ob der Tauber seems like a place out of time, with more than 800 years of history waiting to be explored. Besides its wealth of old medieval buildings and extraordinary museums - like the Medieval Crime Museum or the Imperial City Museum – Rothenburg is home to the most charming Christmas store in the whole world, Käthe Wohlfahrt. Exquisite traditional works of art like Christmas tree decorations and Christmas pyramids carry visitors away to a magical festive world.
29 November - 23 December 2013 The smell of ‘White’ mulled wine and roasted almonds, the illumination by thousands of fairy lights and the festive music provided by local brass-bands… Once a year, the medieval town of Rothenburg transforms itself into a winter wonderland. There is a great deal to see and do in Rothenberg, with the narrow and winding streets and the squares around the town hall; its archways and the marketplace which are lined with stalls where one can find everything the heart and taste buds desire: old German Christmas pastries and handcrafted treasures of all shapes and sizes. The Rothenburg ‘Reiterlesmarkt’ can look back on a 500-year tradition, during which time it has thankfully altered very little from its historical origins.

The international charm of the European capital captivates all who come to visit. Walk through the small alleys and streets in the historical city centre and sample the specialties which are synonymous with Brussels: beer and chocolate! The nearby Grand Place, located at the heart of the city, counts itself among the World Heritage Sites with its magnificent buildings and the gothic-style town hall, and you can also find the legendary statue of ‘Manneken Pis’. The city is divided into two distinct parts: the Lower Town famous for its historical quarters and the exciting Upper Town which houses royalties and many important institutions.

The Grand Place comes alive during the twlight hours illuminated by hundreds of lovingly decorated stalls selling local specialities. For general enquiries, including seating, baggage and meal requests, cancellations and amendment queries, please email holidays@fred.travel, clearly stating your booking reference, name and your date of departure in the subject line or call us on 0808 159 5256.
•
What is the baggage allowance for my flight? Your allowance will usually be shown on your e-ticket or/and your itinerary. If you are unsure about baggage allowance please email us on holidays@fred.travel, clearly stating your booking reference, name and your date of departure in the subject line or call us. Please note some airlines do not include any free baggage allowance and may charge for hold baggage at check-in (this usually applies to low cost carriers).
•
Does my flight baggage allowance include hand luggage? No it doesn’t. Always check the exact hand luggage allowance with your airline prior to packing. A general guide is that hand luggage should not exceed height 450mm x width 350mm x depth 200mm. Most airlines have a hand luggage measurement gauge at check in. If you are taking hand luggage please remember that rules regarding liquids remain in place. Liquids, gels and cosmetics exceeding 100ml are not permitted in hand luggage, and smaller containers must be taken in a transparent plastic bag.
•
Can I make rail reservations? We would normally reserve you a seat as requested. The majority of rail tickets can be used on any train on that route (not Thalys/ Eurostar). Please contact us if you require any further details.
•
Vouchers Please note all documentation should be taken with you on your trip. Although some suppliers do not require the voucher to be presented on arrival, the majority will require this as form of payment. For customers with pre-arranged tours or transfers it is advisable that you reconfirm pick-up/drop-off times with the supplier locally.
•
Credit Cards Please note that credit card use is not as widespread as it is in the UK. We would advise you to check in hotels, restaurants and shops that your credit card can be used (useful phrase: ‘Kann ich hier mit Kreditkarte bezahlen? – do you accept credit cards?).
If you wish to accept a schedule change you can do so by e-mailing us at holidays@fred.travel.

Tickets Most tickets are electronic (e-tickets) with the exception of rail tickets with data being stored electronically on suppliers’ systems. You may access your flight booking online by logging into the airlines website. You will be able to retrieve your booking by entering the airline reference number (alphanumeric and six digits), which is shown on your ticket and the lead passenger name. Please reconfirm onward flights with the airline locally to ensure that your departure times are correct. Airlines may from time to time change their flight schedule and it may not be possible to advise you once you have departed the UK. How do I cancel my booking? We require all cancellations in writing by e-mail or post. Please check our booking terms and conditions for cancellation charges, but please note that it will not generally be possible to cancel your holiday without losing a percentage of your holiday (see our Terms and Conditions). We therefore strongly recommend you take out suitable insurance to cover you for possible eventualities that would require you to cancel your holiday. Can I change my flight booking? Most flight tickets are not refundable or changeable. If your flight ticket states ‘non-refundable’, you may still be able to make a change subject to the airlines terms and conditions. If your flight states “non-changeable and non-refundable”, then it will not be possible to make any changes to your flight booking. Can I pre-book my seats on my flights? Many flights offer a chance to pre-book seats before departure. This can be done by selecting the ‘online-check in’ option on airlines’ homepages and is usually available within 23 hours of the flight departure. Low cost carriers offer a chance to utilise ‘Priority boarding’ for a fee. We can book this for you but usually charge a handling fee for the service. We, unlike many websites, always try to book one item of hold baggage per person for each section of the flight.
•
Are there different styles of beds in Germany, Austria and Switzerland? Yes they are. Twin-bedded rooms may consist of two mattresses and one frame or two separate beds. The majority of twin rooms are usually two mattresses and one bed-head; however we are always more than happy to request separate beds but won’t be able to guarantee any requests. Single rooms may not always offer the same facilities as twin rooms. Double rooms are standard-sized rooms with one king-or queen sized mattress and one frame.
•
Are there any extra charges for hotels? Your confirmation invoice will list your hotel booking and its components. Some towns require the payment of a local Kurtaxe usually around 2 Euros per person per day. We will make every effort to advise you of this at the time booking. Some cities are introducing a local culture tax. Cologne introduced one on the 01 October 2010 which needs to be paid locally.

These Booking Conditions apply generally whether you have booked one of our Packages (Inclusive Price Combinations) or our single component items, e.g. accommodation or transport only. Please note however that where you have purchased a single component, there is a different condition as to liability. Please see ‘Our Responsibilities’ clause below. By making a booking, the lead named person on the booking agrees on behalf of all persons detailed on the booking that: a) b) c)

For changes to pricing after booking, we will absorb and you will not be charged for any increase equivalent to 2% of the price of your travel arrangements, which excludes insurance premiums and any amendment charges and/or additional services or travel arrangements. You will be charged for the amount over and above that, plus an administration charge of £1.00 per person together with an amount to cover agents’ commission. If this means that you have to pay an increase of more than 10% of the price of your travel arrangements (excluding any amendment charges and/or additional services or travel arrangements), you will have the option of accepting a change to another holiday if we are able to offer one (if this is of equivalent or higher quality you will not have to pay more but if it is of lower quality you will be refunded the difference in price), or cancelling and receiving a full refund of all monies paid to us, any amendment charges and/or additional services or travel arrangements. Should you decide to cancel for this reason, you must exercise your right to do so within 14 days from the issue date printed on your final invoice. There will be no change made to the price of your holiday within 30 days of your departure. Should the price of your holiday go down due to the changes mentioned above, by more than 2% of your holiday cost, then any refund due will be paid to you. However, please note that travel arrangements are not always purchased in local currency and some apparent changes have no impact on the price of your travel due to contractual and other protection in place.
Booking and Paying For Your Arrangements
Travel Insurance
A booking is made with Fred.\ when a) you tell us that you would like to accept our written or verbal quotation and b) you pay us a deposit of £150 per person unless advised differently at the time of booking. For river cruises and airline bookings you will be advised of the deposit amount at the time of booking. When we issue you with a confirmation invoice, a binding contract will come into existence. Upon receipt, if you believe that any details on the confirmation or any other documents are wrong you must advise us immediately as changes may not be possible later. The balance of the cost of your arrangements (including any applicable surcharge) is due 8 weeks prior to scheduled departure on some products we require payment 10 weeks prior. If we do not receive this balance in full and on time, we reserve the right to treat your booking as cancelled by you in which case the cancellation charges set out below will become payable. All credit card bookings will be subject to a 2% handling fee (American Express 2.5%).
We reserve the right to refuse or cancel a booking if you do not have personal travel insurance. We will treat any cancellation for this reason as a cancellation by you and the cancellation charges will be payable as set out below. Please read your policy details carefully and take them with you on holiday. It is your responsibility to ensure that the insurance you purchase is adequate and appropriate for your particular needs. We reserve the right to request full details of your insurance policy however please note that we do not check insurance policies for suitability. You are responsible for indemnifying us in full in the event that we incur any losses or expenses arising out of your failure to take out adequate insurance cover. You are strongly advised to take out insurance which will cover any damage. :Cancellation by You
Your Financial Protection All the package and Flight-Plus holidays we sell come with protection for your money. If you buy a single travel service then this might not apply. Package holidays are protected by the package organiser and we will provide you with their confirmation. Our Flight-Plus holidays are ATOL- protected (our ATOL number is 0944). A Flight-Plus is where you purchase through us, at the same time or within a day of each other, a flight plus overseas accommodation and/or car hire from separate suppliers (i.e. not a package holiday). When you buy an ATOL protected flight or flight inclusive holiday from us you will receive an ATOL Certificate. This lists what is financially protected, where you can get information on what this means for you and who to contact if things go wrong. On all Flight Plus holiday arrangements, your money is ATOL protected meaning that you will be able to continue with your holiday or receive a refund of the amount paid to us in the unlikely event of our insolvency or the insolvency of your service providers. Please note however that we have no liability beyond that for insolvency as set out in the ATOL scheme, because we act as agent of the suppliers.
If you or any other member of your party decides to cancel your confirmed booking you must notify us in writing. Your notice of cancellation will only take effect when it is received in writing by us at our offices at Fred.\. Please note proof of postage (whether Royal Mail or e-mail) is not proof of receipt. You will be responsible for applicable cancellation charges up to the maximum shown below, unless otherwise advised. The cancellation charge detailed is calculated on the basis of the total cost payable by the person(s) cancelling excluding amendment charges which are not refundable in the event of the person(s) to whom they apply cancelling. :-
In respect of our Flight-Plus holidays, we are obliged to tell you: •
•
We or the suppliers of the services you have bought will provide you with the services you have bought (or a suitable alternative). In some cases, where neither we nor the supplier are able to do so for reasons of insolvency, an alternative ATOL holder may provide you with the services you have bought or a suitable alternative (at no extra cost to you). You agree to accept that in those circumstances, the alternative ATOL holder will perform those obligations and you agree to pay any money outstanding to be paid by you under your contract to that alternative ATOL holder. However, you also agree that in some cases it will not be possible to appoint an alternative ATOL holder, in which case you will be entitled to make a claim under the ATOL scheme (or your credit card issuer where applicable). If we, or the suppliers identified on your ATOL certificate, are unable to provide the services listed (or a suitable alternative, through an alternative ATOL holder or otherwise) for reasons of insolvency, the Trustees of the Air Travel Trust may make a payment to (or confer a benefit on) you under the ATOL scheme. You agree that in return for such a payment or benefit you assign absolutely to those Trustees any claims which you have or may have arising out of or relating to the non-provision of the services, including any claim against us, the travel agent (or your credit card issuer where applicable). You also agree that any such claims may be re-assigned to another body, if that other body has paid sums you have claimed under the ATOL scheme.

If the deposit amount is more than the cancellation amount we will retain the full deposit as the cancellation charge. We therefore strongly recommend you take out suitable insurance to cover you for possible eventualities that would require you to cancel your holiday. Changes by You If you wish to change any part of your booking you must inform us in writing. Whilst we will do our best to assist, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to meet your requested change. All changes will be subject to any applicable rate changes or extra costs incurred as well as any costs incurred by ourselves and any costs or charges incurred or imposed by any of our suppliers. You should be aware that these costs could increase the closer to the departure date that changes are made and you should contact us as soon as possible. Where we are unable to assist you and you do not wish to proceed with the original booking we will treat this as a cancellation by you. A cancellation fee may be payable. Please note that is important at the time of booking to advise the names of travellers that match the name given on their passport. Failure to do so will usually result in a name change charge by the airline. Accuracy

As we plan your holiday arrangements many months in advance we may occasionally have to make changes or cancel your booking and we reserve the right to do so at any time. If we make a major change to your holiday, we will inform you or your travel agent as soon as reasonably possible if there is time before your departure. You will have the choice of either accepting the change of arrangements, accepting an offer of alternative travel arrangements of comparable standard from us if available (we will refund any price difference if the alternative is of a lower value), or cancelling your holiday and receiving a full refund of all monies paid. In some cases we will also pay compensation (see on next page). These options don’t apply for minor changes.

We will not cancel your travel arrangements less than 8 weeks before your departure date (10 weeks for a cruise holiday), except for reasons of force majeure or failure by you to pay the final balance. We may cancel your holiday before this date if, for example, the minimum number of clients required for a particular travel arrangement is not reached. If your holiday is cancelled you can either have a refund of all monies paid or accept an offer of alternative travel arrangements of comparable standard from us, if available (we will refund any price difference if the alternative is of a lower value). In addition, you agree that the operating carrier or transport company’s own ‘Conditions of Carriage’ will apply to you on that journey. You acknowledge that all of the terms and conditions contained in those ‘Conditions of Carriage’ form part of your contract with us, as well as with the transport company and that those ‘Conditions of Carriage’ shall be deemed to be included by reference into this contract. When making any payment, we are entitled to deduct any money which you have received or are entitled to receive from the transport provider or hotelier for the complaint or claim in question.
If we cancel or make a major change we will pay compensation as detailed below except where the major change or cancellation arises due to reasons of force majeure. The compensation that we offer does not exclude you from claiming more if you are entitled to do so.

These can include, for example, war, riot, industrial dispute, terrorist activity and its consequences, natural or nuclear disaster, fire, adverse weather conditions, epidemics and pandemics, unavoidable technical problems with transport. Our Responsibilities We are a Member of ABTA, membership number Y0128. We are obliged to maintain a high standard of service to you by ABTA’s Code of Conduct. We can also offer you an arbitration scheme for the resolution of disputes arising out of this contract. The scheme is arranged by ABTA and administered independently. It is a simple and inexpensive method of arbitration on documents alone with restricted liability on you for costs. The upper limit on claims is £5,000 per person and £25,000 per booking form. The scheme doesn’t apply to claims which are solely in respect of physical injury or illness or their consequences. It can however deal with claims which include an element of minor injury or illness subject to a limit of £1,500 on the amount the arbitrator can award per person in respect of this element. Your request for arbitration must be received by ABTA within eighteen months of the date of return from holiday. For injury and illness claims, you can request the ABTA Mediation Procedure and we have the option to agree to mediation. Further information on the Code and ABTA’s assistance in resolving disputes can be found on www.abta.com. Package Holidays Subject to these booking conditions, your holiday arrangements will be made or performed using reasonable skill and care. We will be responsible if our employees, servants or agents fail to make or perform your holiday arrangements using reasonable skill and care as long as they were acting within the course of their employment or carrying out work which we had asked them to do. We will not be responsible or pay compensation for any injury, illness, death, loss, damage, expense, cost or other claim of any description which results from: (a) the act(s) and/or omission(s) of the person(s) affected; (b) the act(s) and/or omission(s) of a third party not connected with the provision of the services contracted for and which were unforeseeable or unavoidable; (c) unusual or unforeseeable circumstances beyond our control, the consequences of which could not have been avoided even if all due care had been exercised; or (d) an event which either ourselves, our employees, agents or suppliers and subcontractors could not, even with all due care, have foreseen or forestalled. The services and facilities included in your holiday will be deemed to be provided with reasonable skill and care if they comply with any local regulations which apply, or, if there are no applicable local regulations, if they are reasonable when compared to the local standards in practice. We limit the amount of compensation we may have to pay you if we are found liable under this clause: (a) Loss of and/or damage to any luggage or personal possessions and money, the maximum amount we will have to pay you is £25 per person in total because you are assumed to have adequate insurance in place to cover any losses of this kind. (b) Our liability, except in cases involving death, injury or illness, shall be limited to a maximum of two times the cost of your travel arrangements. This maximum amount will only be payable where everything has gone wrong and you or your party has not received any benefit at all from your booking. Any airline or other transport provider concerned may however provide refreshments and/or appropriate accommodation. We cannot accept liability for any delay which is due to any of the reasons set out in Force Majeure of these booking conditions. The latest flight timings will be shown on your tickets which will be dispatched to you approximately two weeks before departure. You should check your tickets very carefully immediately on receipt to ensure you have the correct flight times. If flight times change after tickets have been dispatched we will contact you as soon as we can to let you know. Under EU Law, you have rights in some circumstances to refunds and/or compensation from the airline in cases of denied boarding, cancellation or delay to flights.
