PISA ITALY (tours from Livorno)
O
nce you’ve had your photo taken ‘holding up’ the leaning tower of Pisa (sorry, it’s got to be done), you can get on with discovering that there is more to this beautiful city than a grand bell tower with faulty foundations. Of course, if you dare climb the 300 steps inside Pisa’s most famous attraction, the view from the top, and the galleries inside, are well worth the calf burn. Think it looks a little too precarious? We understand. Luckily, strolling along the ancient city walls offers a similarly impressive view. In fact, ‘walking the walls’ is a great way to experience the real Pisa. You’ll look down on the winding River Arno, knots of rustic pastel houses and charming palazzos fringed with cafés. After all that walking, head to Casciana Terme, the city’s famed thermal water spa. Its relaxation techniques are ancient – but you’ll emerge brand new.
To visit PISA see route A on page 24 and ROUTES E, F & G on page 26
Shore Excursions Pisa by Trolley and Boat: Take in the sights of Pisa by trolley train and boat. A perfect way to see the highlights of Pisa at an easy pace. Lucca by Bike: Get on your bike! In lovely Lucca, pedal power is the way to go. Explore the narrow, medieval streets and piazzas inside the city walls by bike. Bolgheri Castle and Tuscan Wine: Discover one of Tuscany’s secret treasures, the fairytale castle of Bolgheri, for a superior Tuscan wine tasting experience.

FLORENCE ITALY Already been to Pisa? Not to worry, Florence offers a belissimo alternative. Rightly or wrongly, after one day wandering round Florence, you’ll consider yourself an expert in Renaissance art. Embrace it! That’s just what this elegant city does to its guests. Almost every inch of the semi-mythical Uffizi Gallery is occupied by some masterpiece or other; Michelangelo’s David stands brazenly in the Academy of Florence; and you know what’s a real work of art? Florentine steak. Tuck in at Santo Spirito square, a hip piazza packed with the city’s next generation of artists and muses.
Shore Excursions Florence and Traditional Row Boat Ride: See Florence from a different perspective, in the comfort of a traditional row boat on a ride along the Arno River. Afterwards, enjoy free time in Florence. Introduction to Florence: Florence is a wonderful city to discover, enjoy a guided tour of the highlights followed by free time to explore independently. A Taste of Tuscany: Learn about the famous ‘Martelli’ family pasta production and relax in a typical farmhouse and sample authentic cuisine.

n the Eternal City, Caesar’s heirlooms hide around every corner, waiting to transport you back to a time long, long ago. So, after docking into Civitavecchia and following the ancient roads that lead to Rome, head to the Pantheon and admire its rain-proof hole in the roof. Imagine ghosts of gladiators in the Colosseum. And wave optimistically at the Pope’s Vatican City window. You never know. It’s also worth remembering that Rome is more than just a giant open-air museum. So embrace its everyday Italian-ness too. Sink a shot of coffee with the locals, gesticulate wildly at nothing in particular – and peruse the designer wares around the Piazza di Spagna. Finally, before you depart, flick a coin into the Trevi Fountain. According to legend it’ll guarantee your return. And you’ll definitely want that.
To visit ROME see route B on page 24 and ROUTES E, F & H on page 26
Shore Excursions Glories of the Gladiators: If the ecclesiastical aspects of Rome are not for you, why not tread in the footsteps of a Gladiator. Tarquinia and Beach: Explore the historical centre of Tarquinia and afterwards relax on the popular lido and beach. Wine Tasting and Marta: Visit an award winning winery and enjoy the distinct taste of Italy’s finest wines, and take a stroll on the shores of Lake Bolsena.

VENICE ITALY

on’t listen to those charming Parisians. When it comes to the perfect romantic setting, nowhere holds a candle to Venice. It must be something in the water. Like the ornate gondolas, perhaps? Stepping aboard, reclining luxuriously, and winding your way through this mystical city is a ‘bucket list’ experience. You’ll be amazed at the way your stripy, soulful Gondolier navigates the intricate network of waterways, and enthralled by some of the sights you’ll take in. There’s the ramped Rialto Bridge with its iconic marble arch, the incredibly intricate Doge’s Palace and the timeless elegance of pretty much every single building in Venice. They even age stylishly! As evening falls, the Venetians come out to play and quaint Bacaro bars seem to pop up from nowhere. Duck into one and ask for a ‘spritz’. By the second glass, the seduction will be complete: everyone falls for Venice.
To visit venice see routes A & B* on page 24 and E, F, G & H* on page 26 Shore Excursions A Taste of Prosecco: Visit the underground cellars of the Palladian style Villa Sandi, which dates back to 1622, and sample the distinctive taste of Italian Prosecco. Evening Gondola Serenade: Enjoy an enchanting evening gondola ride – serenely glide under stone bridges and past balconied waterfront buildings and then you’ll be treated to a musical serenade; a moment to be cherished. Verona On Your Own: Explore independently and discover the beauty of ‘Shakespeare’s’ Verona. You may wish to visit The Arena; the 19th century statue of the poet Dante which graces Piazza dei Signori; and Juliet’s balcony at Casa de Giuletta. *As Venice is your start destination on these cruises, you will need to opt for a city stay to spend time exploring here.

MEDITERRANEAN HOLIDAYS | MONTE CARLO

ct famous and you’ll fit right in. This is Monte Carlo, after all: the extravagant playground of the rich, the royal and the glamorous – and perhaps the only port where Ventura might not be the best looking vessel. There’s no shame in that. In fact, we heartily recommend you grab a Morelli’s Gelato and saunter along the pristine harbour playing ‘what super-yacht would I buy if I discovered an oil-field?’ The French Riviera is made for high rollers. So embrace the local culture by checking out the legendary Monte Carlo Casino and the ridiculously grand Palais du Prince. There’s a quainter side too: the Japanese Gardens offer a peaceful hideout – without a Bentley in sight. Docking in Monte Carlo, you’ll soon see why those who can live anywhere, live here. (The 0% tax probably plays a part too.)
To visit MONTE CARLO see routes C & D on page 25 and G & H on page 27 Shore Excursions Formula ONETM: For all Formula OneTM fans; see the famous F1TM circuit and then pay a visit to the Prince of Monaco’s personal collection of 105 vintage and veteran cars, guaranteed to impress. Nice and The Little Train: Popular with both the young and the young-at-heart, the Little Train is an effortless way to enjoy a narrated ride through Nice. You’ll then have an hour or so to yourself to enjoy in the atmospheric Old Town. Riviera Helicopter: This tour offers a brilliant perspective of the highlights of the fairy-tale Principality of Monaco.

GENOA italy
O
ne of the largest and most underrated cities on the Mediterranean, Genoa is also the birthplace of that restless rascal, Christopher Columbus. So it’s fitting that there’s so much to explore here. The medieval centre, known as ‘Vicoli’, is the place to start. A terracotta maze of atmospheric walkways, faded facades and pavement cafés, it’s a slice of authentic Italy. Talking of slices, Genoa is renowned for its gastronomic delights and specialises in focaccia. This flat, oven-baked bread is best enjoyed with olives, sun-dried tomatoes and an uninterrupted view of the staggering Pallazo dei Rolli. Bellissimo! Genoa was named the European Capital of Culture in 2004. And there are plenty of palaces, museums and galleries to explore. If we had to recommend one it would be the Palazzo Ducale Art Complex. Or maybe the Maritime Museum. Ah, it’s too hard. You decide. Milan, Turin and Venice may get more inches in the travel supplements, but in Genoa, you’ll discover another Italian gem.
To visit GENOA see routes A*, B*, C* & D* on page 24 and E*, F, G & H on page 26
Shore Excursions Bolleblu Aqua Park: Make a splash at the Bolleblu Water Park! Paradise Gulf: Discover the delights of the Ligurian Coast with its sparkling waters, quaint fishing villages and hidden bays. Genoa Aquarium: Visit Genoa Aquarium, one of the largest in Europe and home to an exciting array of marine life. *As Genoa is your start or end destination on these cruises, you will need to opt for a city stay to spend time exploring here.

hose who seek paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik and find it. Now that’s what you call an opening line. But unfortunately we can’t take credit for it. You see, the Irish playwright, George Bernard Shaw, uttered those poetic words back in 1929. Yet they remain as true as ever today. Nestled on Croatia’s southernmost tip, the walled city of Dubrovnik is the Mediterranean holiday hotspot of the moment. One stroll through its Old Town and you’ll realise why. The elegant, 16th century Sponza Palace and baroque St Blaise’s church will both have your camera out of its case. If you’re after tranquillity, head to the fortress-like Dominican Monastery – or maybe one of the city’s sun-kissed beaches. Lasting peace in Croatia means people are finally discovering what old George knew all along: Dubrovnik really is paradise.
To visit DUBROVNIK see route A on page 24 and ROUTES E, F & G on page 26
Shore Excursions A Taste of the Adriatic: Discover the delights of Dalmatia, experience Croatian traditions and sample a taste of the local food and wine. Snorkel Adventure: A wonderful opportunity to snorkel in the crystal clear waters of the Adriatic Sea. Elaphite Island Hopping: ‘Hop between’ 3 beautiful and famous Elaphite Islands, to savour the Croatian Adriatic at its best.

Ajaccio

MEDITERRANEAN HOLIDAYS | BARCELONA & AJACCIO F.C. Barcelona
Barcelona Spain
Ajaccio CORSICA
Before the ’92 Olympics catapulted Barcelona onto the world’s TV screens for a month, it wasn’t really much of a tourist destination.
There are so many statues of Napoleon in Ajaccio you’ll begin to feel like he’s stalking you. The wee chap was born here you see, and his childhood home is now a fascinating museum.
What were we thinking?! This bold, buzzing city is incredible. It’s even got 4km of sandy beaches. In Barcelona, design is everything. Funky architectural styles – both old and new – sit together seamlessly along its balmy, treelined avenues. Naturally, Gaudi’s modernist masterpieces steal the show: La Pedrera is crazily cool. Park Güell is delightfully mindbending. And the ever-evolving La Sagrada Familia is, well, a guaranteed holiday highlight. Enjoy paella by the port before rejoining Ventura wondering how this unique city wasn’t always a must-visit destination. Sagrada Familia
Parc Güell
Statue of Napoleon
Shore Excursions F.C. Barcelona: Visit the prestigious home of F.C. Barcelona – one of the biggest clubs in Europe and Europe’s largest football stadium. Montserrat by Rail: The unique ‘jagged mountain’ formations of Montserrat are a magnificent setting for Catalonia’s sacred Benedictine monastery. Palau Güell and Gothic Quarter: Visit Palau Güell, the beautiful mansion designed by Antoni Gaudi, before a guided walk of the Gothic Quarter.
Even without its proud Napoleonic connections, Ajaccio possesses a riveting historical backstory. In a nutshell: now French, it used to be Italian. That’s quite the combination. And it means you can sip authentic French wine while nibbling potent Italian cheese – all made locally with a special Ajaccio twist. The Fiadode (traditional Corsican cheesecake – wow) also deserves a special mention. Before rejoining Ventura, hop on Le Petit Train. You’ll be well and truly charmed.
Shore Excursions Tortoise Time: Don’t just hibernate away – come along and have a tortoise-tastic time. Mountains and Maquis: Discover the natural attractions of Corsica, its wild rugged landscapes, mountains, forests and the scented maquis. Catamaran Adventure: Set sail on an unforgettable adventure, on board an Ocean Voyager 62 catamaran. Make this an absolute must whilst in Corsica!

Peninsula of Sorrento
MALAGA SPAIN
CORFU GREECE
Malaga’s beaches are so incredibly perfect they tend to overshadow its rich and varied history. Well, we think that’s crazy. At over 3,000 years old, this cruising classic is one of the longest-standing cities in the world.
A smattering of ancient artefacts? Check. A mythical past waiting to be explored? Check. A bounty of bright, white beaches? Check.
That’s right. Amble into its bar and café-filled city centre and you’ll pass well-preserved Phoenician, Roman, Arabic and Christian architecture. It’s like a giant, sunny museum. And a free one at that! There’s also a gleaming modern side to Malaga and some of the best tapas bars in the province. The city was recently nominated to be the 2016 European Capital of Culture. They’d get our vote.
Shore Excursions Cars and Couture: From Bond to Balenciaga, discover the links between cars and fashion in Malaga’s fascinating Vintage Car Museum. Selwo Marina Experience: Selwo Marine Park offers a combination of dolphins, sea lions, penguins and parrots all within one day. Charming Malaga and Flamenco: Enjoy a typical Andalusian Flamenco show at one of the most historical fortresses in Spain, with breathtaking views over the city of Malaga.
Corfu delivers everything you’d expect from a premier Greek tourist destination. And a little bit more besides. Take a carefree walk up to Spianada Square, where live traditional music fills the warm air. On the way you’ll pass Venetian fortresses, Byzantine Museums and plenty of fragrant olive groves. Pop into a tavern. Order a Kokoretsi and drink in the atmosphere (and maybe the ouzo – it’s a holiday after all). Finally, seek out Mirtiotissa Beach. Place a paperback and a beverage within reaching distance and just relax. Bliss!
Shore Excursions Royal and Rural Corfu: Discover the sights and delights of the Achilleion Palace, traditional Village of Kato Garouna as well as sampling some local wine and snacks.
Pompeii, ruins of the ancient city
Glyfada Beach Escape: Corfu is famous for its scenery, lush countryside and most of all, the beaches and warm waters of the Ionian Sea. Corfu Sights and Winery: Discover the Virgin Mary Monastery and the Theotoky Estate for a tour and wine tasting before a visit to Corfu Town.

MEDITERRANEAN HOLIDAYS | MALAGA, CORFU & NAPLES
Naples Cathedral
Corfu, Mirtiotissa Beach
NAPLES ITALY Visitors to Naples often confuse the taste of their pizza with a full-blown religious experience. That’s because the pizza here is just so heavenly. Strict government regulations on ingredients make sure of that. Chow down amidst Neapolitan noise on the history laden Via dei Tribunali. Or grab a slice and nibble while you walk to the jaw-dropping Cappella San Gennaro. Let your food settle before stepping inside though. What’s hidden within its resplendent depths may give you a fright... Make the most of your stop by visiting ghostly Pompeii. Just half an hour away, it really is ‘an offer you can’t refuse’.
Shore Excursions Family Sorrento and Pizza School: Take a scenic drive along the Sorrento coast. Visit the resort town of Sorrento and go back to school to make a traditional Neapolitan pizza! Sorrento and Pompeii: Ponder the lost civilisation of Pompeii and delight in the rich Mediterranean beauty of Sorrento.
Malaga
Malaga, flamenco dancers
Vesuvius by 4x4 and Hike: Drive through the Mount Vesuvius National Park aboard a 4x4 coach. Hike to the summit and capture spectacular views of the crater and the Bay of Naples.

Toulon
TOULON FRANCE Start by strolling along the promenade. With the Med on one side and artisan shops on the other, the harbour is the perfect spot to digest Toulon’s sights – plus any Chichi Frégi (exquisite local doughnuts) you may have already discovered. From here you can admire the Spirit of Navigation statue. You’ll call it a masterpiece. But the locals call it ‘cul vers ville’. Why? Well, because its bare buttocks are firmly directed at the city. Moving on from this cheeky monument, you’ll head to Toulon’s Old Town. Cours Lafayette is a fabulous souvenir hunting ground, while its daily Provencal market is oh-so-fabulously French.
Shore Excursions Stylish St Tropez: Don’t miss a visit to the glamorous resort of St Tropez and the ‘Little Venice’ village of Port Grimaud. Aix En Provence: Head to Aix, the city of a thousand fountains will show you one of the ‘jewels’ of Provence. Castellet and Wine Tasting: Visit picturesque Castellet to explore this hilltop village before treating your taste buds to a local wine tasting. Toulon City

MEDITERRANEAN HOLIDAYS | TOULON, KOTOR & PALMA
Kotor Bay
KOTOR Montenegro Trust us: in a few years anyone who’s anyone will be raving about the Montenegrin coastal town of Kotor. With its raw, natural beauty, fascinating military history and exquisite local seafood, it’s inevitable. Well, Ventura offers you the chance to explore it first. An imposing backdrop of jagged mountains ensures Kotor makes a striking first impression. Then, once you’re safely inside its ancient walls, it continues to enthral. St Tryphon’s Cathedral has a mesmeric quality, while the tiny islet named Our Lady of the Rocks offers a photo opportunity well worth the modest water-taxi fare needed to reach it. It may be small, but Kotor is surely the Med’s next big thing.
Shore Excursions Perast and Boka Bay: Cruise to the magical ‘Our Lady of the Rocks’ Church at Boka Bay, and visit the charming 17th century town of Perast. Blue Cave and RIB Adventure: Experience an exhilarating RIB ride, take a swim in the mysterious Blue Cave and relax in the sun. Historic Montenegro: Discover the majestic scenery and history of this beautiful, ‘once remote’ country, with a chance to try some local delicacies.
PALMA majorca As well as its talcum-soft beaches, swanky designer shops and enviable collection of castles, Palma de Mallorca (known widely as Palma) also boasts the royal seal of approval. Yep, the Spanish king and his gilded family wouldn’t dream of missing a summer here. And you can’t blame them. It’s like this Balearic beauty was built for holidaymakers. For history, clamber up to the gothic Bellver Castle (the view of the Bay’s an unforgettable bonus). For family fun, pack a picnic and head to Marineland. And for sheer, there’s-nowhereI’d-rather-be bliss, park yourself on Can Pere Antoni beach. Real life will quickly fade away on this island fit for a king.
Shore Excursions Flamenco and Tapas: Enjoy the highlights of Palma and enjoy a real Flamenco show whilst tasting some delicious tapas. Markets of Palma de Mallorca: A great opportunity to enjoy a combination of sightseeing and shopping at a local market. 4x4 Mountain Adventure: Climb aboard a 4x4 vehicle and take a ride on the wild side to the Tramuntana Mountain range and enjoy a BBQ lunch at La Reserva Nature Park. With 11 places to eat, the wining and dining options are just as mouth-watering. a room for every
type of cruiser
Ocean-view rooms aren’t all that easy to come by on a land-based holiday, so they usually come with a serious premium; especially during summer holidays. But not on Ventura – we have thousands to offer.
To make your holiday extra, extra special, you can upgrade to a premium room with your very own balcony from an extra £15pp per night‡. The peaceful, uninterrupted ocean views make them really worthwhile – plus they’re great for private sunbathing.
Finally, if you’ve got kids in tow and want them close – but not too close – Ventura offers family suites with separate bedrooms. Although many of our rooms also have additional beds that work well for families.
ROOM TYPES Penthouse Suite with Balcony Suite with Balcony ➤ Family Suite with Balcony ➤ Superior Deluxe Room with Balcony ➤ Standard Room with Balcony ➤ Outside Room with Ocean-view* ➤ Inside Room ➤ Single Traveller Outside & Inside Rooms ➤ Accessible Rooms ➤ ➤
Feeling a little rock ‘n’ roll? Well, we also offer the equivalent of a Penthouse Suite. You’ll even have your own butler.
You might be thinking, ‘I’d expect all this from a luxury hotel’. And you’re probably right. But Ventura offers something that land-based hotels simply can’t – a different view every day.
Then there’s the other end of the budgetary scale. If your room will just be somewhere to rest your sun-kissed head, you might fancy one of our inside options. They’re superb value.
For virtual tours and more information visit pocruises.co.uk/accommodation *some rooms may have an obstructed view so check with us before booking. ‡Based on an upgrade from obstructed view outside cabin to balcony cabin on cruise N407D.
