Welcome to Lapland
with Canterbury Travel Imagine a place where the scenery is simple yet majestic; where sheer silence is only broken by the sound of huskies barking excitedly in anticipation of their next sleigh run. This is the place where you can drive a snowmobile through deep crisp snow or enjoy a romantic reindeer sleigh ride. This is the glory of Lapland, the home of a kindly old gentleman, now over 400 years old, who still believes in the true meaning of Christmas – Santa Claus. Celebrate the festive season and enjoy a once in a lifetime holiday to a land full of mystery and magic. For Canterbury Travel are not only about the movement of people, but about precious moments worth remembering. At Canterbury Travel we believe whether you purchase a 1 day trip to Lapland or a longer stay, it’s important to enjoy the best standards of service and tour content available. Our holiday arrangements are inclusive not only of flights, accommodation and transfers, in-flight catering and meals as per itinerary but outdoor arctic activities as specified using huskies, reindeer and snowmobiles, the hire of snow suits and boots, plus entertainment and presents for children ages 2-11 years inclusive.
2
Day trips are full of activity, set in the countryside of Lapland, but due to time constraints are a little more rushed than our other tours. Overnight tours provide for a more relaxed atmosphere, an enhanced activity programme in wilderness locations and the romance of searching for Father Christmas. No matter which tour you choose an individual meeting with Santa is assured and children can deliver in person their Christmas letters and receive a present from the great man.

Santa’s Special Elves
It’s time to meet Santa’s Special elves…these wonderful characters appear exclusively on all overnight tours. Speedy Sam
Dressed in red, Speedy Sam is a restless, somewhat impatient but VERY reliable Santa’s Helper. You may see him rushing around ensuring things are ready on time for Santa. Has Speedy Sam decided if you’ve been good or naughty this year?
Snowy Bowy
Wearing a blue and white dress with silver trim, Snowy Bowy just loves everything to do with snow. She enjoys placing bows on trees, building snowmen, castles and much more. She adores the bows on presents and has so much fun decorating for Christmas.
Noisy Nod
This very cheerful Elf dressed in green, is a big fan of musical instruments, Christmas songs and carols. You’ll know when Noisy Nod is close by as the bells on his clothes will ring. He can usually be found nodding his head and dancing to the bells crying ‘Ho, Ho, Ho.’ Will these bells lead you to Santa?
Tricky Dicky
nce xt
The cheekiest of the Elves, Tricky Dicky is the real joker of the pack! Dressed in orange and yellow, he just loves to play games with people. He may tell a fib or two to mislead you but he’s sure to make you laugh along the way.

Tour details Leaving the UK at around 8am, breakfast will be served on your flight. It takes 3 ½ hours to fly to Lapland and on arrival at Enontekio, we’ll provide you with a thermal snow suit and boots to keep you warm during the day. Then it’s time to head to a beautiful location set beside a frozen lake shore by snowmobile and sleigh Once at the venue you can relax and enjoy the magic of this amazing winter wonderland. Learn to drive a snowmobile (suitable for adults and children alike). Of course, children always love to try some tobogganing and here we have special Stiga toboggans available, which allow them to have a greater steering ability to enhance their enjoyment. As you enter the snow igloo there are ice sculptures and tables also made of ice, where you may sit and sample some traditional hot berry juice. No journey to Lapland would be complete without experiencing a traditional sleigh ride pulled by either a team of huskies or Santa’s faithful reindeer. Yet where will you find Santa Claus?

FAQ’s HOW MUCH IS THE DEPOSIT REQUIRED WHEN BOOKING?
To make a reservation the deposit is £200 per person. If you book via the Canterbury Travel Reservations Office on 01923 822388, the balance is then payable 6 weeks prior to departure. (Other terms may apply if you book via a Travel Agent.)
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE COST OF MY TOUR?
Return charter flights to and from Rovaniemi or Enontekio in Finland. Services as specified within the tour itinerary, transfers, accommodation & meals, and the loan of snow suits and boots for the duration of your stay. Gifts for children age 2-11 years inclusive on day tours and a gift allowance for children age 2-11 years inclusive on all overnight tours.
HOW SAFE IS IT?
It’s perfectly safe as long as you follow the instructions of your Arctic guides. Please remember that our activities operate in Arctic conditions & in the interests of safety your guide may alter the schedule contents of the tour at any time.
IS THE TRIP SUITABLE FOR AN INFANT?
Infants (aged less than 2 years at the time of return travel) are welcome on our tours. You will be required to provide suitable clothing and boots for your infant, for the duration of the tour. Prior to booking you should consult your GP and receive his/her professional advice about taking your infant to Lapland. Infants travel free of charge with the exception of an infant tax and admin fee of £100.
IS THE HOLIDAY SUITABLE FOR DISABLED OR SEVERELY ILL CHILDREN?
IS IT LIKE VISITING AN AMUSEMENT PARK WITH A SANTA’S GROTTO?
No. Our tours operate to resorts and venues which are typically idyllic & traditional. Where possible, our activity programmes are not held in touristic centres.
We understand for many severely ill & disabled children and their parents, a visit to meet Santa is a magnificent dream. Our promise to you is that we care enough to try and ensure that this dream is realised. We have the honour to work with a number of leading children’s charities and to carry many children with conditions including cancer, cystic fibrosis, blindness & paraplegia. We hope to continue to play a part in making such special dreams come true.
WILL WE FIND SANTA?
CAN WE MARRY OR RENEW OUR VOWS IN LAPLAND?
Santa being such a wise man knows that you have made a very special effort to find him. When you and your family have your private meeting with him, he will have a present for all children (ages 2-11 years inclusive) and he will fully understand your children and provide appropriate answers to their questions.
WILL THE REPRESENTATIVES SPEAK ENGLISH?
On overnight tours you will be accompanied by a personal tour guide. They will meet and greet you at the airport and will be on hand throughout each day of your tour. Your guide has expert local knowledge and will be able to answer most of the questions you may have while in Lapland. Both our tour guides and our local representatives speak very good English.
HOW COLD WILL IT BE IN LAPLAND?
Generally temperatures average between -5c and -25c, although it has been known to drop to -45c. It tends to be warmer late Nov and early Dec and you may wish to take this into consideration when booking your tour. However, we do provide a loaned thermal snow suit and boots for the duration of your stay in Lapland.
WILL IT BE DARK DURING OUR STAY?
An average day in Lapland provides 4-5 hrs of grey light (usually between 10.00 & 14.30 Finnish time although this can vary subject to location). When the sky is clear, the sky may be blue with the most amazing colours. At other times, the sky will be as though it is night time, although any light is reflected by the snow, making it possible to see where you are walking. Venues in Lapland are generally lit by roaring fires & Lappish outdoor candles, which provide a very attractive setting for our events.
WILL WE SEE THE NORTHERN LIGHTS?
It is possible to see the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis), though as a natural phenomenon, there is no guarantee. The lights appear like a storm in the sky with white, red or green lights dancing through the atmosphere.
CAN I DRIVE A SNOWMOBILE?
To drive a snowmobile you must be in possession of a valid driving license with the following exception – where all driving is undertaken on private land, the minimum driving age is 15 unless driving a children’s snowmobile where the minimum age is 4 years (subject to height restrictions).
Lapland is the most romantic location to hold your ceremony and our wedding coordinator can help take care of everything to ensure your day is memorable.
WHAT IS THE FOOD LIKE?
Clients participating on an overnight tour will begin the day with a buffet breakfast with cold and hot options, followed by a simple yet warming lunch provided at the activity venue. The buffet dinner is more substantial and caters for most tastes, with children’s favourites available. Buffet stations are replenished frequently. (For day tours please refer to p. 16, where a sample menu is specified.) Food will be served throughout the day at the activity location.
NO SMOKING POLICY
A no smoking policy operates on all our charter flights and coaches to Lapland. The accommodation & restaurants used in this programme are non-smoking in all areas.
