At the top of 2021 Chris Key debuted “I Am Legit” with some of the city’s heavy-hitters. The S.E. Trill produced track features Wichita’s 8:34, Stunn, Buddy Roe and YBM Smoove. But many people were shocked to hear Key, a promoter-podcaster, on the rap song’s chorus. “It had been brought up for a while on a project that I would do involving artists from the town,” says Key. “I had to step out of my zone as a promoter—but I was elated to do it.” “I Am Legit” was the first track for Key to add any vocals. Much like DJ Khalid, he leaves the rapping to the vets but didn’t mind creating the song’s catchy hook. The hook goes: “I am legit/head to toe with the fit/always in the flyest drip/I am legit/counting money to the ceiling/stackin’ tryna get a million.”

When asked what being legit is about, Key explains that it’s all about doing you to the fullest whether that’s pursuing your craft, building your business or as the featured artist ‘8:34’ says, “I’m in my kids’ life/Legit as it get dude.” “It’s whatever you make it,” says Key. “It’s what you stand for and what you stand on.” The track is available on all streaming platforms. Key says he’s inspired by the many artists he collaborates with and his love for music. For years Key has been instrumental in the local entertainment scene. He developed a reputation by promoting concert events and creating platforms for independent artists to showcase their talent. Key has referenced “legit” for some time now and even built a brand of it. In August of last year he launched “Legit Sports Talk” along with rapper Buddy Roe and Arsenio Reynolds. It’s one of few local podcasts covering sports. Occasionally he welcomes special guests who are also avid sports fans. “We talk all about sports,” says Key, a Kansas City Chiefs fan. “Buddy Roe is a Saints fan and Arsenio is all about the Cowboys. Any time one of our teams plays, it’s gonna be a lot of big talk that week.” When Key isn’t debating Lebron’s status as a G.O.A.T., he’s busy selfbranding. He plans to expand his promotional endeavors beyond podcasts and music. He will soon launch a merch line of shirts, masks and hats. He will also release a new track titled “Never Been The Same” with rapper

Chris Key invited Wichita-based artists 8:34, Stunn, Buddy Roe and YBM Smoove to be apart of the "I Am Legit" record. He says he wanted to involve hard-working artists on the project. (L-R) YBM Smoove, 8:34, Chris Key (center), Stunn, and Buddy Roe.
