Thomas “DJ Mil-Ticket” Milhouse is a crowd-pleaser who became one of Chicago’s most influential hip hop DJs. Since his early days of deejaying, he knew how to keep the party rocking. But nowadays MilTicket doesn’t just spin records for club-goers. As a producer, he helps bonify the sounds of new artists like G Herbo, Coi Leray and Kidd Kenn. “I’m in a position to make sure that people from my city get heard,” says Mil-Ticket, who has also worked with Lil Durk. “You can shift the culture through the music.” MAMARAZZIEPKS

Mil-Ticket hails from Englewood, one of southside Chicago’s most notorious communities. Its “Drill Music Movement” is consumed with dark lyrical content rapped over trap beats detailing street violence plaguing their city. But from his turntables, he has helped shape music around the country and give exposure to artists throughout the world. He has lent his stamp to countless mixtape projects and traveled as the DJ for rapper G Herbo, also from Chicago. Inspired by his late friend, Blake Fuller, Mil-Ticket studied the art of deejaying before seriously pursuing the craft. “I’ve always had an ear for music,” Mil-Ticket said. “I listen to so much music so I know what moves people.” MAMARAZZIEPKS

He was once an in-store DJ for Exclusive773, a clothing store famous for its early support of artists like G Herbo, Lil Bibby, Katie Got Bandz, Chief Keef, Tink and Dreezy before they gained recognition. It was at Exclusive773 where he and G Herbo first connected before launching three national tours. Mil-Ticket later spun for XXL’s PlayStation Theatre in NYC, with an audience of 2,100 people. “That was huge for me,” says DJ Mil-Ticket. “Going on tours and playing music for all of these cities made me a better DJ because you have to know how to read the room. I can play anywhere now.”

In a 2019 interview with Rolling Out Mil-Ticket said, “Being a DJ makes it easy for me to create because I know what sound I’m looking for. It helps me to focus.” Def Jam representative, Dough From Da Go, considers DJ Mil-Ticket a staple in the music scene. “His influence is everlasting, memorable and legendary,” says Dough From Da Go who has followed Mil-Ticket’s career for the last 10 years. “He has a great ear and it’s something like magic what he does with these records.”

"DJS ARE STILL IMPORTANT TO GETTING YOUR MUSIC HEARD IN AND OUT OF YOUR CITY." Kidd Kenn, an openly-gay artist, agrees. The rising rap-star may be a far-cry from Chicago’s “drill music” scene but DJ Mil-Ticket took notice of his talent and hustle. The two collaborated on a track titled “Bougie Fellow.” Two years later, Kidd Kenn’s “Good Day” song was borrowed by Target for their Target x NY Pride advertisement campaign launched in June 2021.

With the success of “Never Cared” some years behind him, Mil-Ticket is ready to create an even bigger record. He has his sights set on reaching the Billboard charts and earning a platinum plaque. DJ Mil-Ticket will continue to keep his ears to the streets and lend his stamp to up-andcoming artists.

“Artists should find a DJ who is going to work their records,” Mil-Ticket said. “DJs are still important to getting your music heard in and out of your city.”
