'PRESS PLAY' MIXTAPE: AUGUST 28 RELEASE Thanks to a notebook full of songs that have never been released, singer Jon’Nea Soul is giving us a mixtape she appropriately titled, “Press Play.” The project will be available August 28 on streaming platforms. She is a thriving local artist in her hometown of Salina, Kansas which is about 90 miles from Wichita. The town has only 50,000 people. Jon’Nea is one of few R&B/Hip Hop artists there.
She travels to perform on bigger stages and also networks with reputable producers, artists, DJs and urban media outlets. “It’s always been easy to point me out,” says Jon’Nea. “There’s not too many females in my area doing what I do.” Her powerful voice and catchy hooks have garnered her attention from DJs in the Midwest and other artists who want to collaborate with her.
“I’m definitely influenced by 90’s music,” says Jon’Nea. “My mother would listen to Biggie and everything from that time —just good music.” The mixtape will include a cover of Biggie’s “One More Chance” and also “Heart 4 Sale” by Rod Wave. Jon’Nea and Rod Wave use a similar singrap type of flow over their verses. “Press Play” will also feature original songs by the artist.
