King Zay is getting to the bag with the release of his mixtape titled “Baggage Claim.” The project is hosted by Dip Set’s Juelz Santana, DJ PDUB, and DJ MilTicket. It was released December 26. Attention for the project continues to grow. The artist from the east side of Chicago/Danville wants to motivate others as he travels from city to city pushing his music. “I’m not a sitting duck, I’m a traveler” says King Zay, who had just landed in Myrtle Beach at the

time of this interview. “And as I’m in the airport going from baggage claim to baggage claim I’m getting to the money.” “This project is for everybody getting to the bag—whatever that bag is for them,” adds King Zay. Zay has been inspired by some of hip hop music’s greatest artists and those who have put their stamp on the culture. Juelz Santana made a name for himself as a member of New York rap group The Diplomats (Dip Set). Continued...

Just as it was announced that Juelz Santana was being released from prison, King Zay reached out to ask Juelz to feature on a song. The media circus surrounding Juelz’s release could’ve overshadowed the hard-working artist. Juelz wanted to keep all of the attention on King Zay so he instead offered to host King Zay’s mixtape. “He was like, ‘Let’s get behind

you and your music instead,’” King Zay recalls Juelz saying. “And I respected that.” King Zay also enlisted the help of DJ PDUB and DJ Mil-Ticket. DJ Mil-Ticket says that when King Zay reached out to him, he considered his work ethic before agreeing to take on the project. “He’s hungry with amazing work ethic,” says DJ Mil-Ticket. “I saw that he was working and being consistent.” King Zay has performed in front of fans of Rick Ross, Lil Durk, NBA Youngboy, and G Herbo as an opening act. He watches as his views and likes grow in numbers. He has interviewed with urban media outlets all over the country. King Zay even impressed Fat Joe when he was invited on to his Instagram Live show. Songs from “Baggage Claim” were uploaded to YouTube and

have attracted more than 200,000 views to date. This is the first mixtape from King Zay. It took him about six months to record. He wanted the project to represent who he is as an artist. He has already earned rave reviews from listeners. A YouTube commentator with the username ‘AJ FTBTR’ said, “Tape going crazy [from] start to finish.” King Zay uses social media to give his 24.6K followers a behind-the-scenes look into studio life, live performances and his travel. He hopes to make Chicago and Danville proud. On a track titled “My City” released in Summer 2020, he detailed the violence pegging his city. Leaving Chicago to pursue music success has been a positive aspect for him. Following his own release from prison King Zay made a commitment to focus solely on his music career. His dedication is already paying off. “This dude could be something special to the culture,” said DJ Mil-Ticket. The “Baggage Claim” mixtape and EP are available on all streaming platforms.
