MUSICBOX RECORDING GROUP SUPPORTS INDEPENDENT MUSICIANS By Ti'Juana "Mamarazzi" Hardwell

I ndependent musicians are getting an opportunity to sing hits that

were imagined for mega-stars like Beyonce, Chris Brown, Usher,

Rihanna and Kehlani. DJ G.O.D. (The Good Often Dies) is on a mission to prove that a hit is a hit—even without a big name in the credits. The A&R, executive producer and songwriter is taking unknown and emerging talent under his wings with Musicbox Recording Group. His “Love Is Love” project allows space for real R&B to shine. Artists like Grammy award winning singer Saeed Renaud (Fox Network’s The Four) and Vedo (“You Got It”) have both lent their voices to the album. “We believe in our ink,” says DJ G.O.D. about the songwriting abilities of his Miami, Florida based Musicbox Recording Group. “We could give our records to a guy playing a guitar in the street and it’ll be a hit.” DJ G.O.D. was once a rap artist looking to make a name for himself. But soon, he learned the ins and outs of the music business and turned his pursuits towards developing and supporting other artists. After shopping records around and being overlooked by labels, DJ G.O.D. recognized an opportunity to allow indie artists who favored mainstream artists to use the material.

“I love the groundwork of working with artists,” said DJ G.O.D. “Some of the artists I work with have never even registered their music and don’t know anything about ASCAP or BMI.” He often refers to Musicbox Recording Group as a “music daycare” because he teaches them the business side of music and helps them to develop their sound while still having the creative freedom to make the kind of music they enjoy. DJ G.O.D.

encourages musicians to be involved in the writing process as waiting on a song-writer sometimes means pushing back a release date or taking a lesser split from the sale of a track. “I don’t want them to be reliant on song-writers for long,” he said. “Sometimes them being in the room CONTINUED...

while a record is being written hypes them up to make even better records.” DJ G.O.D. shys away from the limelight and is most comfortable working behindthe-scenes advocating for his artists. Rarely is he in photos and when he is, he blurs his face out to maintain anonymity for himself. He would rather the spotlight be on the artists he works with. He creates opportunities for them to garner exposure. Many of them have been featured on platforms like Source Magazine, ThisIs50, Hip Hop Weekly, other blog sites and on radio. “I make sure the artists associated with Musicbox are living inside the palms of music listeners through streaming services,” says DJ G.O.D. “Love Is Love” was released to streaming platforms on Valentine’s Day 2021. As follow-up to the project, MBRG will add singles considered to be “The Lost Petals.”

Singer Vedo celebrated his "You Got It" single being certified gold by Billboard Hot 100. It his his first career entry on the Billboard. Vedo also collaborated with DJ G.O.D. on "Love is Love."

DJ G.O.D. was inspired by the void in authentic R&B music being made. “We’re in desperate need of real R&B right now,” said DJ G.O.D. “Everyone as young as 16-years-old are looking for real R&B. Not everyone wants the type of R&B that mixes in with Hip Hop.” The music executive spends countless hours searching social media and music

platforms for talented unsigned artists. “Sometimes I’m up at 4 a.m. on a hunt looking for artists that MBRG can collaborate with,” said DJ G.O.D.

MBRG strives to be “the Amazon of the music industry.” The recording group will continue to provide meaningful support to independent artists as they find a sound of their own.
