DaStar has watched as fans and the music industry embrace a flock of female rappers like Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, Saweetie and Mulatto. Each of them has their own unique style and have achieved streaming success. But she feels there’s room for more femcees. “I feel like this is really the time for the female artists—and they’re really winning,” says Roblo DaStar, who began taking herself serious as an artist at age 16. “I’m loving what I’m seeing and it gives me hope.”

stay in they face with it.

She is aware that female artists have to work twice as hard to get respect in the music industry. DaStar spends hours in the studio—without pen and paper—and creates music for her fans. Her music writing process is all in her head and allows her the luxury of creating on the spot. Adlibs like, “Hannn” are infectious and reflect her vibrant artistry. Influenced by her favorite male artist, E-40, she gives an energy-filled delivery for her rhymes. In 2018 she released “Big Dog,” an EP. And in 2017 she released “OTDA (On They Dog Ass).” But now she is preparing to follow up with hot new music. She recently released a snippet for a song titled, “Tripping.” The song samples Ella Mai’s smash single, “Trip.” Now that Roblo DaStar has a team behind her, she wants to “stay consistent” and “stay in they face with it.” Core DJ Moheat has given an incredible push for DaStar’s music, by putting the singles in rotation at clubs and on music platforms. “I see how bad she wants it,” says DJ Moheat. “Her skill set speaks volumes.” DaStar performed at her town’s Fall Jam back in September and proved to be a showstopper. The crowd moved to her music and had a good time with her performance. She says her city can be hesitant to embrace some artists, believing that only one artist can make it out of the town. But she is adamant that’s not the case. And if she has anything to say about it, when she makes it, she’ll

bring other KC artists along for the ride. But for now, she’s doing all that she can to gain momentum for her art. “I have to keep giving people the content and from that, I’ll continue to build my fan base,” says Roblo DaStar. “In music you just have to be able to outwork people.” The next visual she will release is for a song called “Put On.” The song samples Janet Jackson’s “Any Time, Any Place.” “It’s a riding song—something you can put on after the club,” describes DaStar. “Or something you can listen to when you’re grittin’, getting money.” It will be followed by a titled called “Yamp.” She feels good about the feedback she has gotten about the “Put On” track and can’t wait for people to see it when she releases it later this year.
