_SOIL AREAS

STRATEGIES OF TRANSFORMATION IN THE MARGINAL CITY BETWEEN INFRASTRUCTURE AND PUBLIC SPACE

thesis project 2011 The thesis involves a project concerning the transformation of the marginal areas, with a special attention to the great urban infrastructural projects. The context of the project is the border area of Barcelona, characterized by big settlements transformations, related with the new high-speed railway project at Sagrera. It also involves the transformations of the Placa de las Glorias and the Ciutadella area and seeks to create a harmonious relationship between these areas through urban intervention. The theme of the project in particular, is oriented towards the designing of a complex architectural organism, in relation

with spatial, social and technical aspects.

_PICTURING “HOME FOR ALL” competition 2011

Dear Friend, The rainy season, known as Tsuyu in Japan, has begun. We have been engaging in various supportive activities for the affected people by the earthquake that struck Japan on March 11. Currently a number of people in the disaster areas have lost their homes and have been forced to live in temporary housings. We have been working on making a space called the “Home-for-All” which acts as a small living room for the people affected. A place with sofas and tables where people can go sit and talk, maybe read a book or newspaper over coffee. Toyo Ito
