Mammut Testevent
The Vertical Packs Expert Circle. Mammut declared a backpack revolution with the revamping of the entire backpack range. Before the new look backpacks went on sale, they were put through their paces in a series of tests that considered every last buckle and strap. The testers were an international circle of backpack experts, made up of Mammut dealers from Japan, the USA, Norway, Italy and many other countries. A succession of tests and workshops took place over a period of two days, until all participants agreed: wherever you plan to go, you’re sure to find the perfect backpack in the new range. For further information: www.mammut.ch/basecamp
Every revolution has an aim. The guiding aim of the product professionals, movement scientists and top mountaineers in the Mammut team was: pure focus. Concentrating on the essentials. Developing, improving and reducing, until only the very best remains. Since a product is only perfect when it is not possible to leave anything else out. To check whether the new backpack collection had achieved this aim, Mammut dealers put it through its paces at the testevent. At the end of two days of testing, Christian Oester from Oester Sport in Adelboden summed it up best: “There are very few frills. You’ve focused on the essentials!”. All the more reason to relax on the second day and hang out together. But not in the hut, out on a photo shoot on the cliff face with Röbi Bösch. Even Mammut CEO Rolf Schmid was there.

Backpack Tips
Here are a few packing tips from Mammut employees on their travels around the world. Ulf Sänger Backpacker and climber Place the heaviest objects in the main compartment, next to the back, behind the shoulder blades.
Stephanie Grunder Backpacker Roll up your clothes and don’t place any bottles of liquid close to your back. If they break, you could be injured.
Albert Gasser Mountaineer Pack anything you’re likely to be looking for in the hut in the flap pocket. That means that you can always find your headlamp, watch or wallet, even if it’s dark and the light in the room isn’t working…
Fritz Schäfer Mountaineer and climber Carry drinks in a hydration system. This makes it easier to take regular sips.

Stephan Siegrist On The Case Mammut Athlete
Together with ace climber David Lama, Stef presented the new backpacks. As well as a visual inspection, the collection was to be put to the test on a special course. This was also an opportunity for the dealers to demonstrate their fitness away from their store counters - on the slackline or backpack speed climbing with Stef. A firm favorite with dealers from countries outside Switzerland was the Farmers’ Olympics, featuring alpine horn blowing, milking and cream making.

Mammut Technical Hardware
Gentle Braking.
Mammut’s patented webbing brake via ferrata set ensures an optimal brake force curve when absorbing a via ferrata fall. This produces the lowest possible braking force, catching the fall while keeping the braking impact as comfortable as possible.
Tec Step Conventional rope brakes generate a strong initial force peak to absorb a fall in a via ferrata set. This creates a high impact force which can be dangerous for children. Mammut’s Tec Step technology absorbs the energy of the fall by means of a four-stage tearing of two interwoven pieces of webbing. This four-stage tearing creates a progressive increase in braking force, helping to ensure more gentle absorption of any fall by children weighing 30 kg or more and adults of up to 100 kg.

The Boulder Collection. From South Africa to India, the USA or France – bouldering is happening all over the world, and is growing in popularity. Complex movements are often required out on the cliffs. Dynamic hauls and wide jumps alternate with acrobatic lunges. It’s important that clothing doesn’t restrict you. Anyone wearing fashion also bears a responsibility. Together with its Swiss partner Remei AG, Mammut has developed products produced entirely organically according to the EU Eco Directive. Harmful pesticides have been replaced by environmentally friendly alternatives. The entire value chain, from dehusking the cotton to sewing the product, is checked according to ecological criteria. Christian Stangl Talks About His Plans
The “Seven Summits Pro” Project.
I’ve already completed four of the seven second-highest summits, but the fifth is putting up a fight. I had to turn back on K2 this year, just 300 m below the highest point. There was too much snow! Not a single climber managed to reach
the summit of K2 in the summer of 2009, not even in classic style! I have also realized that the secondhighest peaks on each continent are technically far more difficult than the highest. Therefore, I don’t think the title “Second Seven Summits” is quite right, “Seven Summits Pro” sums it up better. Otherwise, why hasn’t any climber already climbed all the second highest peaks on each continent? My aim is to scale all of these summits in “one day” style. Aiming to show the same sporting style as on the highest mountains in the world! www.mammut.ch/athletes_alpine_ christian_stangl

Shaping the future at 2883 meters above sea level. Mammut supported the construction of the MonteRosa hut near Zermatt. Not only does the new mountain hut look very modern, its architecture and construction are also perfect examples of high alpine construction. Commitment is part of Mammut’s ecological corporate responsibility. Its actions include offsetting CO2 emissions created from its rope production. www.mammut.ch/csr

In December 2007, I completed my “Seven Summits Speed Project”, an ascent of the highest peaks on each continent in record time. This project brought together my three main interests: mountains, travel and (competitive) sport. The next logical step seemed to be to attempt the same “skyrunning” project on the “Second Seven Summits”.
