Festival of Youth 2012 Outline of the Event This is the second year of the Festival of Youth. The first year coincided with the Commonwealth Youth Games and proved very popular and successful, with beach motor cross, a skateboard park on the promenade, a stage for performance, a zombie walk, Parkour stopping and an urban variety show at the end of the day in the Gaeity Theatre.

The event is an opportunity for the young people from all around the Island to showcase their skills, be it singing, dancing, sports, arts, circus skills etc. It is also a great opportunity to bring something different and fun to the town centre for people of all ages to enjoy. This year we are hoping to bring this event into the Town Centre and have workshops and displays taking place all day in various locations throughout the town. We believe there are numerous talented young people on our island and this is their opportunity to show the public what they can do and how talented they are. It is also a great opportunity for young people to see what is on offer on the Island and how they can get involved should they wish.

The Festival of Youth 2012 Festival of Youth 2011 a hit Hundreds of people enjoyed watching the island’s youngsters showing off a wide range of talents in the island’s first Festival of Youth - arranged to coincide with the Commonwealth Youth Games. The event’s creative director, Mike Bell of The Play People, said the Festival of Youth was a ‘massive success’, and he hopes that this year, more young people will get involved in the preparations of the festival. The main event took place at Loch Promenade - throughout the day there were bands playing, beach moto-cross, rappers, dancers, sea cadets, BMX displays and fencing demonstrations. Douglas was overrun by zombies on a walkthrough Strand Street and around a hundred people met for a guided tour of the urban exhibition called Parkour Stopping - a mixture of sitespecific performances, choreographed parkour and dance. In the evening, there was an Urban Variety Show at the Gaiety Theatre including dance, parkour, circus skills, acrobatics, musicians and rappers. The event was sponsored by Britannia and Mannifest and organised through the Douglas Development Partnership.

Who is this event aimed at? This event is aimed at the young and the young at heart. We know that this event is already a success and the feedback from both the youth and the older generation was very positive. The Town Centre was brought to life, it gave the public something different and brought some fun back to Douglas.
Sponsorship As sole sponsor for this event you can expect the following: • Full branding on all advertising material • Your company will be named on any radio advertising • Branding can be displayed at the event throughout the town centre • This event can be used as part of your corporate community responsibility; your staff can be involved with this event by assisting with stewarding, prize presentations, planning etc. • The Festival is already an annual event and is improving and growing year on year. As this is an annual event there is the possibility of future sponsorship. • A stall provided by the Partnership as a space to promote activities of your business.
Extras Along with a main stage area there will be numerous fringe events taking place throughout the town such as workshops, demonstrations, flash mobs, children’s entertainment, motor cross, skateboard park to name but a few.
