Welcome to the City of Manassas Park Department of Parks and Recreation. The Department of Parks and Recreation is committed to the provision of quality leisure services for the residents of Manassas Park. Over the years, through the many changes the City has endured, the Department of Parks and Recreation has responded to the growing needs of the community by continuing to support the Governing Body’s vision to be the “Premier Northern Virginia Community to live, work, and raise a family”.
POLICIES Registration Registration is on a “first come, first serve basis.” You will only be notified if the class/program is cancelled. Late registrations may be accepted if space is available with no reduction in fee. However, we encourage registering onling at www.ManassasParkCommunityCenter.com.
Forms & Fees Each class/program must be accompanied by payment. You may register and pay for classes two ways; either online via our website at www.manassasparkcommunitycenter.com or in person at the Community Center located at 99 Adams Street, Manassas Park, VA 20111. Checks are to be made payable to “City of Manassas Park.” There is a $50 returned check fee for any check returned by the bank.
Cancellations
The Department of Parks & Recreation reserves the right to cancel any class/program which does not meet the minimum enrollment. All programs with insufficient enrollment will be cancelled 5 days prior to the program start date. PLEASE REGISTER EARLY!
Non-City Residents
Most of the fee based classes/programs are available to non-city residents at an additional fee. Please see the individual class/program for additional information.
Inclement Weather
In the event of inclement weather the Department of Parks and Recreation will follow the Local Government cancellation schedule. If classes/programs are cancelled, every attempt will be made to re-schedule the class/program.

Member representation is on a volunteer basis, so if you are interested, we would love to hear from you! Health and Wellness Commitee Help us work to combat childhood obesity, promote healthy living, and encourage active aging on a citywide scale. Charged with raising awareness and addressing health and wellness issues, we are seeking dynamic citizens to help us achieve these goals. Skate Park Committee We are building a Skate Park! We need help with design and fundraising! If you are between the ages of 12 and 18 years old and want to get involved, give us a call. If you are over 18 years old, we need your help too – so get in touch with us today! Special Events Committee This committee assists staff in the planning, marketing, fundraising, coordination, and implementation of 29 special events hosted by the Department of Parks and Recreation. BRIEF DESCRIPTION
Baker Street Park
Features a playground, a covered pavilion and an acre of open space. *Currently closed until further notice, staging area for construction.
Scott Drive Park
Features a playground, a small covered pavilion and open space.
Polk Street Park
Features an outdoor basketball court, a playground, and generous amounts of open space.
These small parks, ranging in size from a quarter acre to one acre, are located in the residential neighborhood of the eastern area of the City and primarily service the residents local to each site. Block Parks are open year round from 7:30 a.m. until dusk. All Parks and facilities are open to the public and may be scheduled for specific use through the Parks and Recreation Department at 703.335.8872. Please note, the rental application is a request only, not a guarantee. A Facility Use Application is required for all facility reservations. Special Permits, in addition to the Field Use Application may be required for after hours events, special events, or group use. Payment, if required, must accompany a Facility Use Application. The Department does not accept tentative reservations. Cancellations must be made at least 14 days in advance for shelters and at least 48 hours in advance for other facility reservations in order to receive a refund. Applications are available at the Costello Park Business Office. All rentals are subject to availability and must be booked and paid for 7 days in advance of event. Certain restrictions may apply. Rates are on a ‘per hour’ basis, unless otherwise noted. Deposits are a one time refundable fee, restrictions may apply.

DOG PARK: LOCATION
INFORMATION The Manassas Park Dog Park features a large and small dog run for your pets to exercise and interact in a safe environment with other dogs.
Costello Park
OTHER INFORMATION • Hours: Sunrise to Sunset. • Dogs must be current on all vaccinations. • Dogs must be leashed when entering and exiting the Dog Park. • For the safety of your dog(s) and other park visitors, choke, prong (pinch) and spike collars are strictly prohibited. If you use these types of collars, remove them before entering the park. • No Children under the age of 16 are permitted unless accompanied by an adult. Children have a tendency to scream and run when excited, which can trigger a dog’s prey drive or natural instinct to chase. For this reason and for the safety of your children, we do not recommend bringing small children and infants into the dog park. • Aggressive dogs are not permitted on the premises. Dogs must be removed at the first sign of aggression. • Female dogs in heat are prohibited from entering the park. • Dog owners must be in the park and within view of their dogs at all times. • All off-leash dogs must be under voice control of their owners. If you can not control your dog off leash, keep your pet leashed at all times. • Dog owners must keep their leash in hand at all times. • Please do not bring dog food into the park. • Owner must clean up dog feces. Seal waste in the provided plastic bags before disposing in designated receptacles. • Fill any holes your dog digs. • Proof of a current rabies vaccination and license is required upon request of a police or animal control officer. Tags may serve as proof. • Failure to abide by the park rules may result in loss of privileges or owners may be ticketed. • Use of Dog Park is at owners and pets risk. *Park occasionally closed during normal hours for maintenance.
HISTORICAL SITES: LOCATION
BRIEF DESCRIPTION
The Conner House
A nationally registered historical site, this antebellum stone house, circa 1855, is located in the central region of the City, in view of city hall. The Conner House is currently being restored and is not open to the general public.
Signal Hill Monument
A nationally registered historical landmark, 13-acre monument site is located in the western end of the City, adjacent to Signal Hill Park. Signal Hill is open year round from 7:30 a.m. until dusk.
Camp Carondolet
A nationally registered historical landmark, this 8-acre Civil War encampment is located in the Blooms Crossing subdivision adjacent to Cougar Elementary School. A series of nature trails are available to public year round from 7:30 a.m. until dusk.
The Georgia Cemetary
Included in the Camp Carondelet nomination, is a Civil War cemetery located in the direct vicinity of Camp Carondelet in the Blooms Crossing subdivision. The Georgia Cemetery is available to the general public by permit only.
The Union Mill Trestle
A key structure in the Civil War, is located in the last few remaining acres of the once Union Mill Park near the VRE lot and Generals Ridge Golf Course. Union Mill Trestle is open to the general public year round from 7:30 a.m. until dusk.
Field Application: Athletic fields and park grounds are available for rental to registered leagues and group users. Cost for permits vary on the type of usage and the duration of the request. All Spring field usage requests are accepted beginning February 1st of each calendar year for a March 15th through July 1st season. All Fall field usage requests are accepted beginning July 1st of each calendar year for an August 1st – November 15th season. Note: All fields will be assigned by March15th. Permits will be issued at time of application approval.

Zumba®
ZUMBA® is a program that fuses Latin and International music and dance themes that create a dynamic, exciting, effective fitness system! The routines feature aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that help to tone and sculpt the body. It provides a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy to follow dance steps.
Aqua Zumba®
If you enjoy ZUMBA®, you will be sure to enjoy Zumba in the water. Zumba utilizes the principles of fitness interval training/resistance training to maximize caloric output, fat burning, and total body toning. It provides a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy to follow dance steps. You do not need to be a swimmer to take this class.
Aquatic Dynamic Movement
This class will give a cardio and strength workout at a pace that is moderate. Class is meant to help create healthy individuals. Held in water that is at least 4 ft. deep. You do not need to be a swimmer to take this class.
Senior Strength and Sculpt
This class is specially designed to help seniors improve their cardiovascular endurance and muscular strength. A variety of aerobic and anaerobic exercises utilizing medicine balls, dumb-bells, exercise bands, and stability balls will be incorporated into this functional, exciting, and low impact class.
Teen Yoga
Teens will develop body and mind strength, flexibility, improves ability to focus, create positive self image through yoga poses, breathing and meditation.

Water Walking
Like any water aerobic exercise, water walking is easy on the joints. The water’s buoyancy supports the body’s weight, which reduces stress on the joints and minimizes pain. Water provides 12 times the resistance of air, so as you walk, you’re really strengthening and building muscle.

aquatics Swim Lessons & Classes Our swim lessons program is designed to help swimmers at every level experience more success and less frustration with learning the fundamentals of swimming. All of our classes are taught by certified water safety instructors. All lessons will be held at the Manassas Park Community Center. Parent and Child: Children ages 6 months to 3 years. Parent in water with child. 30 min. Preschool Level 1: Children ages 3-5. Child must be able to leave parent willingly. Parents are not in water with child. 30 min. Preschool Level 2: Children ages 3-5. Parents are not in water with child. Children should be able to demonstrate exit skills from P/S Level 1. 30 min. Preschool Level 3: Children ages 3-5. CPR/AED/First Aid for the Lay Responder
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to recognize and respond to cardiac, breathing, and first aid emergencies. Certification is valid for 2 years. SESSION
The Manassas Park Community Center natatorium is an NCAA shortC course certified indoor pool consisting of eight, 25 yard lanes, a zero depth entry and a spa. The pool temperature is maintained at a comfortable 82˚F. Kick boards, pull buoys and lifejackets for patrons are available for use while at the facility. Certain areas of the pool may not be open for public swimming due to swim lessons, group exersise classes or league rentals.
Pool Hours: Mon-Fri 7am-9:30pm; Sat 7am-6:30pm; Sun 10am-5:30pm Mon-Thurs from 6-8pm, only one lane is available for lap swim (Members Only). Beach entry is closed for swim lessons only.

American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor:
Ever wanted to teach swim lessons? This class will teach you all you need to know in order to lead your own swim lessons. All participants must be able to swim 25yds of front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke and 15 yds of butterfly. All participants must also be able to float or scull on back in deep water for 1 minute and tread water for 1 minute. WSI candidates are trained to teach all levels of the American Red Cross Learn to Swim program. SESSION

NSPF Certified Pool Operators Course:
Looking to advance your career in the Aquatics Field? The National Swimming Pool Foundation’s Certified Pool Operators Course will teach you how to handle pool chemicals, balance pool water and fix pool issues. Ages 6-12. Manassas Park, Dept. of Parks and Recreation is proud to bring another thrilling season of basketball back to the community. Our league is co-ed and we focus on the FUNdamentals and skill development. Team sizes are small so everyone plays and the experience for the kids is priceless. Teams practice once a week and play games on Saturdays. Age is determined by age on January 8, 2013. senior recreation programs SENIOR PASSPORT
You’ve asked, we’ve listened! Our Seniors Passport Program is now only $30 per year. To be eligible for this Passport Membership, you must be 65 years of age. Membership includes all the benefits the Fitness PLUS Membership as well as the splash membership and access to all senior programs at no additional fee! Enjoy our potlucks, the wellness center, pool, active aging programs and more! Every year, we host a Seniors Easter Egg Hunt, Scavenger Hunt, Regional Trips and Spring Dance. Non-members may enroll in these classes individually by paying the $2 daily drop-in rate. Transportation is available for residents of Park Place Senior Apartments on weekdays with pick-up times at 8:30am and 11:30am, and drop-off times at 11:30am and 2pm at no additional cost. Please keep in mind that meals are not currently available at the Manassas Park Community Center, participants coming from 8:30am-2pm will need to provide their own lunch. *Transportation availability, times and locations are subject to change. Ages 17+. This one of a kind, special program is a self facilitated adult social group. This program is designed to meet the needs of individuals with developmental/cognitive disabilities. Daily activities include arts and crafts, fitness classes, movies, computer and video games. Buddies will also have access to the wellness center and the pool. MPCC. Take One Drama Troupe
Ages 17+. The Take One Drama Troupe is a group of talented individuals with developmental/cognitive disabilities. The Drama Troupe works with ARC of Greater Prince William as well as the Manassas Park Department of Parks and Recreation and Manassas Park Schools to host various plays throughout the year. AQUATIC Adaptive Aquatics
Ages 5-18. We have designed a swimming program for individuals with special needs to be able to learn water safety, swim techniques and to feel comfortable in the water. Each participant must have an aide (or parent) in the water with them during the lesson. Aides can be provided at no additional charge if arranged with the Aquatics Supervisor in advance. Ages 5-17. The Miracle League of Manassas Park returns for the Fall season. The Miracle League Baseball program is a specially designed program for people with disabilities to play America's past time. Our special field is rubberized so it's made specifically for individuals with wheelchairs, crutches, and visual impairments in mind. "If I were to tell you about an organized youth baseball league, you might call it ordinary. If I were to tell you the athletes are physically and mentally challenged, you might call it touching.
