The Manassas Park Community Center, designed as a full-service site, is more than just an active recreation facility. Welcome to the City of Manassas Park Department of Parks and Recreation. The Department of Parks and Recreation is committed to the provision of quality leisure services for the residents of Manassas Park. Over the years, through the many changes the City has endured, the Department of Parks and Recreation has responded to the growing needs of the community by continuing to support the Governing Body’s vision to be the “Premier Northern Virginia Community to live, work and raise a family”. POLICIES Registration Registration is on a “first come, first serve basis.” You will only be notified if the class/program is cancelled. Late registrations may be accepted if space is available with no reduction in fee. However, we encourage registering online at www.ManassasParkCommunityCenter.com. Forms & Fees Each class/program must be accompanied by payment. You may register and pay for classes two ways; either online via our website at www.manassasparkcommunitycenter.com or in person at the Community Center located at 99 Adams Street, Manassas Park, VA 20111. Checks are to be made payable to “City of Manassas Park.” There is a $50 returned check fee for any check returned by the bank. Cancellations The Department of Parks & Recreation reserves the right to cancel any class/ program which does not meet the minimum enrollment. All programs with insufficient enrollment will be cancelled 5 days prior to the program start date. PLEASE REGISTER EARLY! Non-City Residents Most of the fee based classes/programs are available to non-city residents at an additional fee. Please see the individual class/program for additional information. Inclement Weather In the event of inclement weather the Department of Parks and Recreation will follow the Local Government cancellation schedule. If classes/programs are cancelled, every attempt will be made to re-schedule the class/program. Participation The City of Manassas Park, Department of Parks & Recreation, classes/programs/ events/facilities are open to all individuals regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. Every reasonable effort will be made to provide accommodations based on individual need. Please contact the Recreation Services Supervisor prior to the program start date for any additional assistance. We need your help in “Shaping the Future.” The Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking citizens of all backgrounds and interests to help guide our services. Member representation is on a volunteer basis, so if you are interested, we would love to hear from you! Health and Wellness Committee Help us work to combat childhood obesity, promote healthy living, and encourage active aging on a citywide scale. Charged with raising awareness and addressing wellness issues, we are seeking dynamic citizens to help us achieve these goals. Skate Park Committee We are building a Skate Park! We need help with design and fundraising! If you are between the ages of 12 and 18 years old and want to get involved, give us a call. If you are over 18 years old, we need your help too – so get in touch with us today! Special Events Committee This committee assists staff in the planning, marketing, fundraising, coordination and implementation of 29 special events hosted by the Department of Parks and Recreation. Membership Committee Committed to customer service excellence, this committee is focused on Community Center membership specials, promotions, hospitalities, member retention and appreciation through events and programs. Your participation on this committee will assist us in keeping customer satisfaction our number one priority.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

Baker Street Park

Features a playground, a covered pavilion and an acre of open space. *Currently closed until further notice, staging area for construction.

Scott Drive Park

Features a playground, a small covered pavilion and open space.

Polk Street Park

Features an outdoor basketball court, a playground, and generous amounts of open space.

These small parks, ranging in size from a quarter acre to one acre, are located in the residential neighborhood of the eastern area of the City and primarily service the residents local to each site. Block Parks are open year round from 7:30 a.m. until dusk. All Parks and facilities are open to the public and may be scheduled for specific use through the Parks and Recreation Department at 703.335.8872. Please note, the rental application is a request only, not a guarantee. A Facility Use Application is required for all facility reservations. Special Permits, in addition to the Field Use Application may be required for after hours events, special events, or group use. Payment, if required, must accompany a Facility Use Application. The Department does not accept tentative reservations. Cancellations must be made at least 14 days in advance for shelters and at least 48 hours in advance for other facility reservations in order to receive a refund. Applications are available at the Costello Park Business Office. All rentals are subject to availability and must be booked and paid for 7 days in advance of event. Certain restrictions may apply. Rates are on a ‘per hour’ basis, unless otherwise noted. Deposits are a one time refundable fee, restrictions may apply.

facilities DOG PARK LOCATION

Costello Park

INFORMATION The Manassas Park Dog Park features a large and small dog run for your pets to exercise and interact in a safe environment with other dogs. • Hours: Sunrise to Sunset. • Dogs must be current on all vaccinations. • Dogs must be leashed when entering and exiting the Dog Park. • For the safety of your dog(s) and other park visitors, choke, prong (pinch) and spike collars are strictly prohibited. If you use these types of collars, remove them before entering the park. • No Children under the age of 16 are permitted unless accompanied by an adult. Children have a tendency to scream and run when excited, which can trigger a dog’s prey drive or natural instinct to chase. For this reason and for the safety of your children, we do not recommend bringing small children and infants into the dog park. • Aggressive dogs are not permitted on the premises. Dogs must be removed at the first sign of aggression. • Female dogs in heat are prohibited from entering the park. • Dog owners must be in the park and within view of their dogs at all times. • All off-leash dogs must be under voice control of their owners. If you can not control your dog off leash, keep your pet leashed at all times. • Dog owners must keep their leash in hand at all times. • Please do not bring dog food into the park. • Owner must clean up dog feces. Seal waste in the provided plastic bags before disposing in designated receptacles. • Fill any holes your dog digs. • Proof of a current rabies vaccination and license is required upon request of a police or animal control officer. Tags may serve as proof. • Failure to abide by the park rules may result in loss of privileges or owners may be ticketed. • Use of Dog Park is at owners and pets risk. *Park occasionally closed during normal hours for maintenance.

HISTORICAL SITES: LOCATION

The Conner House Signal Hill Monument

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

A nationally registered historical site, this antebellum stone house, circa 1855, is located in the central region of the City, in view of city hall. The Conner House is currently being restored and is not open to the general public. A nationally registered historical landmark, 13-acre monument site is located in the western end of the City, adjacent to Signal Hill Park. Signal Hill is open year round from 7:30 a.m. until dusk.

Camp Carondolet

A nationally registered historical landmark, this 8-acre Civil War encampment is located in the Blooms Crossing subdivision adjacent to Cougar Elementary School. A series of nature trails are available to public year round from 7:30 a.m. until dusk.

The Georgia Cemetery

Included in the Camp Carondelet nomination, is a Civil War cemetery located in the direct vicinity of Camp Carondelet in the Blooms Crossing subdivision. The Georgia Cemetery is available to the general public by permit only.

The Union Mill Trestle

A key structure in the Civil War, is located in the last few remaining acres of the once Union Mill Park near the VRE lot and Generals Ridge Golf Course. This site is not accessible to the general public.

Field Application: Athletic fields and park grounds are available for rental to registered leagues and group users. Cost for permits vary on the type of usage and the duration of the request. All Spring field usage requests are accepted beginning February 1st of each calendar year for a March 15th through July 1st season. All Fall field usage requests are accepted beginning July 1st of each calendar year for an August 1st – November 15th season. Note: All fields will be assigned by March 15th. Permits will be issued at time of application approval.

ZUMBA® is a program that fuses Latin and International music and dance themes that create a dynamic, exciting, effective fitness system! The routines feature aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that help to tone and sculpt the body. It provides a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy to follow dance steps.

Aqua Zumba®

If you enjoy ZUMBA®, you will be sure to enjoy Zumba in the water. Zumba utilizes the principles of fitness interval training/resistance training to maximize caloric output, fat burning, and total body toning. It provides a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy to follow dance steps. You do not need to be a swimmer to take this class.

Senior Strength and Stretch

This class is specially designed to help seniors improve their cardiovascular endurance and muscular strength. A variety of aerobic and anaerobic exercises utilizing medicine balls, dumbbells, exercise bands, and stability balls will be incorporated into this functional, exciting, and low impact class.

Boot Camp

This class is designed for those desiring to increase cardiovascular fitness and increase muscular strength more efficiently. Boot Camp is for the beginner to the advanced enthusiast. Workout in a TEAM environment while challenging yourselves with others to reach your personal fitness goals.

Water Walking

Like any water aerobic exercise, water walking is easy on the joints. The water’s buoyancy supports the body’s weight, which reduces stress on the joints and minimizes pain. Water provides 12 times the resistance of air, so as you walk, you’re really strengthening and building muscle.

Beginner Yoga

This class will cover the fundamentals of yoga poses and breathing techniques. This class will focus on strength and flexibility as well as breathe awareness and relaxation.

Senior Yoga

This gentle yoga class is for individuals 50 years young and up. Yoga will help to increase mobility, inspire tranquility, and promote an overall sense of well being.

Buddy Yoga

This class will focus on the foundations of yoga while providing plenty of modifications for our physically challenged or intellectually disabled adults. *Included in Buddy Club Membership. Drop in rates apply for non-members.

Gentle movements will help increase flexibility, range of motion, and strength.

MPCC Indoor Pool Information

The Manassas Park Community Center natatorium is an NCAA short course certified indoor pool consisting of eight, 25 yard lanes, a zero depth entry, and a spa. The pool temperature is maintained at a comfortable 82˚F. Kick boards, pull buoys, and life jackets for patrons are available for use while at the facility. Certain areas of the pool may not be open for public swimming due to swim lessons, group exercise classes, or league rentals.

MPCC Pool Hours: Mon-Fri 7am-8:30pm; Sat 7am-6:30pm; Sun 10am-5:30pm Mon-Thurs from 6-8pm, only one lane is available for lap swim (Members Only). Beach entry is closed during swim lessons.

Signal Bay Waterpark Information

Signal Bay Water Park is a 27,000 sqft aquatic facility within Signal Hill Park featuring a zero depth entry leisure pool with water cannons, slides and a lazy river. Showers are made available for citizen convenience. The water park is open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend and follows Manassas Park City Schools schedule. When school is in session the water park is open weekends only. When school is not in session the water park is open weekdays and weekends.

Extended Care follows the licensing standards of the State of Virginia, Department of Social Services. Our before and after school care is for children K-5th grade attending City of Manassas Park Schools; which by whom transportation is provided. We offer themed activities which include arts and crafts as well as games, sports, and swimming- in a fun supervised environment! Parents are required to attend an orientation prior to beginning Extended Care. Call for orientation dates. You must provide a completed registration form, copies of your child’s birth certificate, immunization form, health physical form, and a $55 non-refundable annual registration fee. Full Service Days consist of teacher work days, breaks, and some holidays and are included in your tuition. Call for punch card/drop in rates. (PM Punch Cards cover full service days.) Must register at the Community Center. Dates are subject to change upon the release of the 2016-17 MPCS Academic School Year Calendar.

Martial Arts Olympics Camp

(Ages 6-11) Martial Arts Olympics, where children enter as themselves and leave as a virtual Chuck Norris! Tennis Camp

(Ages 6-11) Game! Set! Match!!! Tennis camp will help your child learn how to play the popular racket sport of tennis. Samurai Warriors Camp

the 1800s. The Emperor has to put together an army of Samurai Soldiers! He only has one week to train the loyal farmers that surround his castle in: Kendo (Way of the Sword), Nerf Archery, foam rubber Bo staff, water artillery, water cannons, and this new stuff called Karate that one of the villagers recently invented. The soldiers have 5 days to train and build their own Samurai armor to protect them against enemy forces. The fate of the Emperor’s nation depends on you! Ninja Warrior Challenge Camp

(Ages 6-11) Camp participants are thrust back in time to ancient Japan, where they must learn the skills of the ninja warriors. With their newly learned skills they will be allowed to participate in the challenge at the end of the week. A combination “Capture the Ninja Flag”, “American Gladiators” and “Ninja Warrior Obstacle Course” will test their mettle and skills. They will learn acrobatics, proper use of ninja equipment (foam safety and nerf), martial arts, and more! (Authentic ninja uniforms and child safe weapons can be available for purchase at the camps with parent approval.

Leagues MPCC Youth Summer Basketball League

(Ages 6-12) Age divisions are co-ed: 6-7, 8-9, and 10-12. There will be an 8 team max for each division. Games will be played on Saturdays and begin June 18th. 6-7 will play between 11a-1p, 8-9 will play between 1p-3p, and 10-12 will play between 3p-5p. Teams can be formed intact (bring your own team) or through free agent sign up. There will be no draft as free agent teams will be formed from the pool of players registered. Free agent teams will be formed based on registration (first come first served). Coaches are volunteer parents of registered youth. STEM Camps STEM Aviation Robins

(1st-3rd grades) Gravity, wings, four forces of flight, parachutes, directions, and weather vanes! Junior Aerospace Engineers

Welcome to the Teen Passport for teens in 6th-12th grades. You have access to all teen programs and the facility. You can also earn points towards your membership! Passport memberships are $20/ month and include classes and programs just for teens. Each month you are allowed up to 20 points. When you earn 20 points, your next month is FREE! We are looking for outgoing involved teens to help shape and plan our teen programs. The Teen Advisory Board is a group of teens who want to have their voice heard. We will meet at the Community Center the 1st Friday of every month at 4pm.

Walking Club Calling all walkers! As we

walk and talk you’ll be hitting your stride and realize the heart benefits of a 1,000 steps. No need for fancy gear! Just bring comfortable walking shoes, a water bottle, and your favorite ball cap! In the event of rain we will walk indoors.

(Ages 17+) This one of a kind, special program is a self-facilitated adult social group. This program is designed to meet the needs of individuals with development/cognitive disabilities. Daily activities include arts and crafts, fitness classes, movies, computer, and video games. Buddies will also have access to the wellness center and the pool. $2 drop in rate for non-members.

Programming Scholarship Opportunities

Manassas Park Department of Parks and Recreation Scholarship Program DPR scholarships are limited to one program, per person, per ‘season.’ Open enrollment will take place on the 4th Saturdays in August and February. 10 DPR scholarships will be awarded each ‘season’. If awarded a scholarship, families will be responsible for 10% of the program cost.
