The Community Center features two full basketball courts, an indoor pool, fitness rooms, and rental spaces including a 3,480 sq. ft. banquet hall. The City of Manassas Park, Department of Parks and Recreation is committed to the provision of quality leisure services for the residents of Manassas Park. Over the years, through the many changes the City has endured, the Department of Parks and Recreation has responded to the growing needs of the community by continuing to support the Governing Body’s vision to be the “Premier Northern Virginia Community to live, work, and raise a family”. POLICIES Registration Registration is on a “first come, first serve basis.” You will only be notified if the class/program is cancelled. Late registrations may be accepted if space is available with no reduction in fee. We encourage registering online at www.ManassasParkCommunityCenter.com. Forms & Fees Each class/program must be accompanied by payment. You may register and pay for classes online at www.ManassasParkCommunityCenter.com or in person at the Community Center located at 99 Adams Street, Manassas Park, VA 20111. Checks are to be made payable to “City of Manassas Park.” There is a $50 returned check fee for any check returned by the bank. All credit card transactions are assessed a 3% + $0.30 fee. Cancellations The Department of Parks and Recreation reserves the right to cancel any class/ program which does not meet the minimum enrollment. All programs with insufficient enrollment will be cancelled 5 days prior to the program start date. PLEASE REGISTER EARLY! Non-City Residents Most of the fee based classes/programs are available to non-city residents at an additional fee. Please see the individual class/program for additional information. Inclement Weather In the event of inclement weather the Department of Parks and Recreation will follow the local government cancellation schedule. If classes/programs are cancelled, every attempt will be made to re-schedule the class/program. Participation The City of Manassas Park, Department of Parks and Recreation, classes/ programs/events/facilities are open to all individuals regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, or disability. Every reasonable effort will be made to provide accommodations based on individual need. Located at 147 Polk Street Features an outdoor basketball court, a playground, and generous amounts of open space

These small parks, ranging in size from a quarter acre to one acre, are located in the residential neighborhood of the western area of the City and primarily service the residents local to each site. Block Parks are open year round from 7:30 am until dusk. All parks and facilities are open to the public and may be scheduled for specific use through the Parks and Recreation Department. The rental application is a request only, not a guarantee. A Rental Request Application is required for all facility reservations. Special Permits, in addition to the Field Use Application, may be required for after hours events, special events, or group use. Payment must accompany a Rental Request Application. The Department does not accept tentative reservations. Cancellations must be made at least 10 days in advance in order to receive a refund for outdoor rentals. Applications are available at the Manassas Park Community Center. All rentals are subject to availability and must be booked and paid for 10 days in advance of event. Certain restrictions may apply. Deposits are a one time refundable fee. Restrictions may apply.

Costello Park

INFORMATION The Manassas Park Dog Park features a large and small dog run for your pets to exercise and interact in a safe environment with other dogs • Hours: 8:00am-dusk • Dogs must be current on all vaccinations. • Dogs must be leashed when entering and exiting the dog park. • For the safety of your dog(s) and other park visitors, choke, prong (pinch), and spike collars are strictly prohibited. If you use these types of collars, remove them before entering the park. • No children under the age of 16 are permitted unless accompanied by an adult. Children have a tendency to scream and run when excited, which can trigger a dog’s prey drive or natural instinct to chase. For this reason and for the safety of your children, we do not recommend bringing small children and infants into the dog park. • Aggressive dogs are not permitted on the premises. Dogs must be removed at the first sign of aggression. • Female dogs in heat are prohibited from entering the park. • Dogs over six months must be spayed or neutered. • Dog owners must be in the park and within view of their dogs at all times. • All off-leash dogs must be under voice control of their owners. • Dog owners must keep their leash in hand at all times. • Please do not bring dog food into the park. • Owner must clean up dog feces. Seal waste in the provided bags before disposing in designated receptacles. • Fill any holes your dog digs. • Proof of a current rabies vaccination and license is required upon request of a police or animal control officer. Tags may serve as proof. • Failure to abide by the park rules may result in loss of privileges or owners may be ticketed. • Use of dog park is at owners’ and pets’ risk. *Park occassionally closed during normal hours for maintenance and special events.

HISTORICAL SITES

INFORMATION

The Conner House

A nationally registered historical site, this antebellum stone house, circa 1855, is located in the central region of the City, in view of City Hall. The Conner House is currently being restored and is not open to the general public.

Signal Hill Monument

A nationally registered historical landmark, this 13-acre monument site is located in the eastern end of the City, adjacent to Signal Hill Park. Signal Hill is open year round from 7:30am until dusk.

Camp Carondolet

A nationally registered historical landmark, this 8-acre Civil War encampment is located in the Blooms Crossing subdivision adjacent to Cougar Elementary School. A series of nature trails are available to the public year round from 7:30am until dusk.

The Georgia Cemetery

Included in the Camp Carondelet nomination is a Civil War cemetery located in the direct vicinity of Camp Carondelet in the Blooms Crossing subdivision.

The Union Mill Trestle

A key structure in the Civil War, this is located in the last few remaining acres of the once Union Mill Park near the VRE lot and General’s Ridge Golf Course. This site is not accessible to the general public.

Field Application: Athletic fields and park grounds are available for rental between March 15th – November 15th to registered leagues and group users. Cost for permits vary on the type of usage and the duration of the request. All spring field usage requests are accepted beginning February 1st of each calendar year for a March 15th – June 30th spring season. All fall field usage requests are accepted beginning July 1st of each calendar year for an August 15th – November 15th fall season.

Senior Yoga

Aqua Zumba®

SIT Fit

Want lean and strong arms, but don’t want to bulk up? This 30-minute lowimpact class is designed to tone and slenderize your arms. Build lean, graceful arms with this dance-based workout! If you enjoy ZUMBA®, you will be sure to enjoy Zumba in the water. Zumba utilizes the principles of fitness interval training/resistance training to maximize caloric output, fat burning, and total body toning. You do not need to be a swimmer to take this class.

Aquasize

This gentle yoga class is for individuals 60 years of age and up. Senior yoga will help to increase mobility, inspire tranquility, and promote an overall sense of well being. SIT Fit is a low impact aerobics and strength training class for anyone needing the stability of a chair. This class is performed seated or standing behind a chair for stability.

Water Walking

This class provides a low-impact, full body exercise while helping you tone your muscles.

Water’s buoyancy supports the body’s weight, which reduces stress on the joints and minimizes pain. Water provides 12 times the resistance of air, so as you walk, you’re really strengthening and building muscle.

Beginner Yoga

Zumba®

Beginner’s Yoga will cover the fundamentals of yoga poses and breathing techniques. This class will also focus on strength and flexibility as well as breath awareness and relaxation.

Body Tone with Yogalates

This is an overall body toning class that targets the hips, thighs, stomach, arms, and back. This class combines the grace and fluidity of yoga with strengthbuilding power of Pilates. Our session will end with a cooldown meditation.

ZUMBA® is a program that fuses Latin and International music and dance themes that create a dynamic, exciting, and effective fitness system! The routines feature aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that help to tone and sculpt the body. It provides a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy to follow dance steps.

Body Sculpting

A lightweight dumbbell workout moved to the beat of the music. Burn calories as you flow through a variety of exercises to sculpt and tone your body! You’ll notice improvements in your muscle tone, posture, balance, and strength.

Boot Camp

Boot Camp is designed for those desiring to increase cardiovascular fitness and increase muscular strength more efficiently. Boot Camp is for the beginner to the advanced enthusiast. Workout in a team environment while challenging yourselves with others to reach your personal fitness goals.

Buddy Yoga

Buddy Yoga will focus on the foundations of yoga while providing plenty of modifications for physically or cognitively disabled adults.

Functional Fitness Flow

This class uses the resistance of water to challenge your muscles while allowing the buoyancy to ease the strain on the joints. The goal of this class is to increase your muscle strength, balance, flexibility, and range of motion.

This exciting, fast paced, upbeat class is a fusion of boxing, martial arts, and aerobics, all performed rhythmically to music. Target hard-to-reach leg, butt, and thigh muscles for an overall lower-body toning with this Pilates-based mat workout. This low impact aqua class uses gentle movements that will help increase flexibility, range of motion, and strength.

Senior Strength and Stretch

Designed to help seniors improve their cardiovascular endurance and muscular strength. Medicine balls, dumbbells, exercise bands, and stability balls will be incorporated into this functional, exciting, and low impact class.

MPCC Indoor Pool Information The Manassas Park Community Center natatorium is an NCAA short course certified indoor pool consisting of eight 25 yard lanes, a zero depth entry, and a spa. The pool temperature is maintained at a comfortable 82˚F. Kick boards, pull buoys, and life jackets for patrons are available for use while at the facility. Certain areas of the pool may not be open for public swimming due to swim lessons, group exercise classes, or league rentals.

Signal Bay Waterpark is a 27,000 sqft aquatic facility within Signal Hill Park featuring a zero depth entry leisure pool with water cannons, slides, and a lazy river. Showers are made available for citizen convenience. The Waterpark is open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend and follows Manassas Park City Schools schedule. When school is in session the Waterpark is open weekends only. When school is not in session the Waterpark is open weekdays and weekends.

Manassas Park Teen Passport Welcome to the Teen Passport specifically for teens in 6th-12th grades! The Teen Passport membership is $20.00 per month. Teens can earn points toward their Teen Passport each month with good grades, community service, and by volunteering. When a teen earns 20 points, their next month is FREE!

Teens who do not retrieve their ID when exiting the building must pay a $5.00 drop-in on their next visit.

Every first Thursday of the month, we create some of our favorite drinks and try new ones! Drinks include hot cocoa, milkshakes, sparkle punch, Arnold Palmer, and watermelon slushies, to name a few!

Come play this fast-paced, modified game of soccer. Games are played indoors on our basketball courts and teams are made up of five people. If you are a soccer enthusiast, this activity is for you.

Sports Conditioning Whether you are in-season or in-between seasons, you can always improve your conditioning. Join staff as they help push you to your max to make sure that you put your best foot forward when it’s time for tryouts or the game.

Teen Potluck Do you have a favorite dish that you want your friends try? Every fourth Friday of the month, we gather to share a meal. Bring a dish and a big appetite!

Learn Something New World of Art

Pickleball When you mix tennis with badminton, you get Pickleball. This is one of the fastest growing sports in the country, and we have it right here at the Community Center. Once you play, you’ll be hooked!

Art is all around us. There are many different forms and mediums of art, and in the Teen Center World of Art, we are going to discover them each week. Supplies will be provided.

DIY Crafts

P.E. Games Can’t get enough of P.E. games in school? Each Thursday, we’ll play some of your favorite classic P.E. games in the gym. Don’t worry, you won’t be graded on this class.

Are you the type of person who is always on Pinterest looking for ideas? Don’t worry, we are too! In this class, we’ll get together to create crafts that will be displayed in the Teen Center! We’ll also create something that you can take home and be proud of.

Garden to Table

Every Friday after school, the Community Center courts are the place to be! The gym is reserved just for you to hoop with your friends. Grab your buddies, a basketball, and meet us on the court!

We have a teen created and sustained garden at the Community Center! We will plant lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, and more. Our group meets once a week to plant, water, harvest, and discuss plans for the garden. You will be able to take the vegetables home or use them in a recipe in our cooking class at the Community Center.

Cosmetology Tips

Every Monday, the Teen Center turns into a mini movie theater. Grab a spot on the couch with some candy or popcorn and enjoy a great film. We may watch anything from Disney classics, to motivational movies, to some of the newest releases. All films are rated G - PG-13.

Learn basic tips on how to take care of your skin, hair, and nails. We’ll make environmentally safe products that you can take home and use.

Volunteer Club Do you love your community and want to give back? Maybe you need community service hours for school? Whatever the reason is, we invite you to join us on Tuesdays for new and exciting volunteer opportunities around the Community Center.

Latin Dance Fall in love with the beautiful dances of Salsa, Mambo, Bachata, and Merengue. Beginners will learn the basic steps in a fun, casual setting. Even if you already know how to dance, we encourage you to show up and enjoy the music with other dancers!

Homework Help Need a little extra help with homework? Our recreation leaders are here to help you succeed in school. Bring your questions to us, and we will work together to help you understand your homework or prepare for a test.

GENERAL

◊WCRB Beginners Stage Combat Class◊

◊MP3◊ MP3 (Manassas Park 3 o’clock Club) is a non-licensed program operated by the City of Manassas Park, Department of Parks and Recreation. The program is lightly supervised for your teen to have a safe and fun place to be after school. The program emphasizes recreation with creative programs and materials that encourage and invite participation. Recreation Leaders guide students in activities that allow the participants to learn. Teens will choose and participate in group activities that are fun, safe, and challenging. MP3 is developed for teens in grades 6-8.

(Ages 13-19) The class will be on basic rapier and dagger with emphasis on performing, weapons skills, movement, and safety. The class is taught by Master Geoff Thompson, a professional actor, SAFD recognized advanced actor combatant, and choreographer. A fifth degree black belt, he has trained children and young adults in martial arts and theatrical stage combat for over 17 years. He has been a stage combat instructor/director for the International Renaissance Festivals for over 15 years. His years of experience on stage and film help him bring excitement and working knowledge to the class. $50/month for one class a week; $80/month for two classes a week; $100/month for three or more class week.

MP3 is hosted Monday-Friday during the school year from 2:45pm-7:00pm. Transportation is provided from Manassas Park Middle School to the Community Center. MP3 does not meet on holidays or teacher workdays. Must pre-register.

(Ages 13-17) WCRB’s Teen MMA Class is a skill development class for students with or without prior training. With emphasis on courtesy, discipline, and respect, students will learn a mixture of several different art forms. The TMMA program is combined with our Academic Excellence program for maximization of your child’s learning experience. This is white-to-black belt course with testing two to four times a year. No class 10/31, 11/7, or 11/21. $50/month for one class a week; $80/month for two classes a week; $100/month for three or more class week.

(Ages 17+) This one of a kind, special program is a self-facilitated adult social group. This program is designed to meet the needs of individuals with developmental/cognitive disabilities. Daily activities include arts and crafts, fitness classes, movies, computer, and video games. Buddies will also have access to the wellness center and the pool. $2.00 Drop-in rate for non-members. $20/month
