POLICIES Registration Registration is on a “first come, first serve basis.” You will only be notified if the class/program is cancelled. Late registrations may be accepted, if space is available with no reduction in fee. Forms & Fees Each class/program must be accompanied by payment. You may register and pay for classes two ways; either Online at www. manassasparkcommunitycenter.com or in person at the Community Center located at 99 Adams Street, Manassas Park, VA 20111. Checks are to be made payable to “City of Manassas Park.” There is a $35.00 returned check fee for any check returned by the bank.

Cancellations The Department of Parks & Recreation reserves the right to cancel any class/program which does not meet the minimum enrollment. All programs with insufficient enrollment will be cancelled 5 days prior to the program start date. PLEASE REGISTER EARLY! 2

Non-City Residents Most of the fee based classes/programs are available to non-city residents at an additional fee. Please see the individual class/ program for additional information. Inclement Weather In the event of inclement weather the Department of Parks & Recreation will follow the Local Government cancellation schedule. If classes/programs are cancelled, every attempt will be made to re-schedule the class/program. Baker Street Park

Features a playground, a covered pavilion and an acre of open space.

Scott Drive Park

Features a playground, a covered pavilion and generous amounts of open space.

Polk Street Park

Features an outdoor basketball court, a playground, and generous amounts of open space.

These small parks, ranging in size from a quarter acre to one acre, are located in the residential neighborhood of the eastern area of the City and primarily service the residents local to each site. Block Parks are open year round from 7:30 a.m. until dusk.

BRIED DESCRIPTION

The Conner House

A nationally registered antebellum stone house, circa 1855, located in the central region of the City, in view of city hall. The Conner House is currently in the process of being restored and is not open to the general public.

Signal Hill

A nationally registered 13-acre monument site located in the western end of the City, adjacent to Signal Hill Park. Signal Hill is open year round from 7:30 a.m. until dusk.

Camp Carondelet

A nationally registered 8-acre Civil War encampment located in the Blooms Crossing subdivision adjacent to Cougar Elementary School. A series of nature trails are available to the general public year round from 7:30 a.m. until dusk.

The Georgia Cemetery

Included in the Camp Carondelet nomination, is a Civil War cemetery located in the direct vicinity of Camp Carondelet in the Blooms Crossing subdivision. The Georgia Cemetery is available to the general public by permit only.

The Union Mill Trestle

A key structure in the Civil War, is located in the last few remaining acres of the once Union Mill Park near the VRE lot and Generals Ridge Golf Course. Union Mill Trestle is open to the general public year round from 7:30 a.m. until dusk.

All Parks and facilities are open to the public and may be scheduled for specific use through the Parks and Recreation Department at 703.335.8872. Please note, the rental application is a request only, not a guarantee. A Facility Use Application is required for all facility reservations. Special Permits, in addition to the Field Use Application may be required for after hours events, special events, or group use. Payment, if required, must accompany a Facility Use Application. The Department does not accept tentative reservations. Cancellations must be made at least 14 days in advance for shelters and at least 48 hours in advance for other facility reservations in order to receive a refund. Applications are available at the Costello Park Business Office. All rentals are subject to availability and must be booked and paid for 7 days in advance of event. Certain restrictions may apply. Rates are on a ‘per hour’ basis, unless otherwise noted. Deposits are a one time refundable fee, restrictions may apply. Field Application: Athletic fields and park grounds are available for rental to registered leagues and group users. Cost for permits vary on the type of usage and the duration of the request. All Spring field usage requests are accepted beginning February 1st of each calendar year for a March 15th through July 1st season. All Fall field usage requests are accepted beginning July 1st of each calendar year for an August 1st – November 15th season. Note: All fields will be assigned by March15th. Permits will be issued at time of application approval.

Summer Extended Care 2011 This licensed program is provided over the summer for children currently enrolled in k-5th grade, Monday through Friday. Full day care begins and 6:00 a.m. and continues until 7:00 p.m. at the Manassas Park Community Center. The Extended Care program offers a nutritious morning and afternoon snack, weekly themes, field trips, arts and craft activities, games and sports, in a fun supervised environment. A one-time yearly registration fee of $55.00 is required at the time of registration. Prior to beginning care, a private orientation is required. Please provide on/before orientation a copy of your child’s immunization record, health physical form, and birth certificate. Extended Care will be closed 6.20.2011 – 6.24.2011 and 8.29.2011 – 9.2.2011. Water Polo Water polo is a team water sport which can be best described as a combination of swimming, football, basketball, ice hockey, rugby and wrestling. A team consists of six field players and one goalkeeper. The goal of the game resembles that of soccer; to score as many goals as possible. This sport requires skill, speed, conditioning and endurance. Water polo requires an individual to be a proficient swimmer, because he cannot touch the sides or bottom of the pool for extended periods of time. Midnight Soccer Looking for something to do on a Friday night? Want to play pick up soccer with friends, but it’s to dark and no fields are open? Well, that has changed. This season we have contests (5v5 tournament and 3v3 tournament), prizes, and a Dj. No longer will you have to sit around and think of things to do. Chair Fitness

Wii Wednesdays

As the name suggests, chair exercises are exercises that are performed while sitting down. Chair exercises can increase your strength, balance and vitality all while sitting down. They create movement, stretching, and help increase your heart rate. Each exercise involves a series of slow movements. Perfect for the active adult that has troubling standing or experiences difficulty balancing.

Fun way to exercise, and easy to play. Come to the Community Center and join us for a game of bowling, golf, tennis, baseball and boxing all with our Nintendo Wii.

Monday Movies Relive some of your favorite past and current movies. Some of the movies that will be shown include Citizen Kane, Casablanca, A Street Car Named Desire, and Forrest Gump. We will also take popular requests, if you have a movie you would like to watch just let us know and we’ll show it.

Book Club This club is for those that love to read and discuss the novels they read. It’s a fun way to get together, socialize, have an intellectual conversation and meet people. Light refreshments will be served. Pre-registration is required.

Pickle Ball 24

A sport that continues to grow every year is finally here in Manassas Park. Come play pickle ball with some friends for daily exercise and competitive fun. Games are played every Tuesday morning.

Senior Strength and Sculpt This class is specially designed to help seniors improve their cardiovascular and muscular strength. A variety of Aerobic and Anaerobic exercises utilizing medicine balls, dumbbells, exercise bands and stability balls will be incorporated into this functional and low impact class.

Aqua Lite Class is designed to progressively build strength, flexibility and endurance in a joint supportive environment.

Aqua Dynamic Using the water for resistance, this class offers a challenging cardiovascular training as well as strength conditioning to promote healthy individuals.

Coffee Cake and Crafts Come join old and new friends for arts and crafts and light refreshments.

Widows and Widowers Support Group This is an interactive support group that will help you deal with the grieving process. In this group you will find compassion, support, understanding and education.

The Miracle League Baseball program is a specially designed program for people with disabilities and special needs to play America’s past time. Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run (PHR) is an exciting skills competition that provides boys and girls the chance to advance through four levels of competition, including Team Championship events at all 30 Major League ballparks and the National Finals at the MLB All-Star Game. The first round of the competition will start at the Costello Baseball field. It is completely FREE to register. Come out and test your skills in pitching, hitting and running. Hershey’s Track and Field Games The Hershey’s Track & Field Program was created over 30 years ago to promote youth physical fitness and provide fun learning experiences for children 9 to 14 years old.
