MICROSOFT SURFACE PRO 3

GoPro Hero Microsoft Pro 3 is designed with business users in mind; it can run the desktop version of Windows 8 as well as Microsoft Office — you know, actual software, not just apps. The 12-inch tablet comes with a kickstand that lets you incline the screen to almost any angle; the optional keyboard/cover ($120 to $200) attaches magnetically to the bottom of the screen, making the Pro as convenient as an iPad and as powerful as a luxury notebook

The HERO4 GoPro builds on the company’s existing technology with improved resolution, upgraded audio systems, and time lapse capabilities for ultra low-light scenes at night. The HERO4 comes in silver and black editions at $399 and $499, respectively, and promises to make videos from the extreme (base jumping, surfing) to the pleasantly even better. The latest GoPro HERO4 Black captures 4K images at 30 frames per second and works better in low-light conditions (but costs $500). Most weekend warriors would probably be happy with the GoPro HERO, a $130 cam that grabs full HD images at 30 fps.

Amazon Kindle Fire The Ring Video Doorbell Imagine the perfect front door. Like a human security guard, it would tell you who was outside and allow you to talk with them before you let them in. The $200 Ring Video Doorbell system does just that: it’s a small ringer with a camera that communicates with your phone, allowing you to see who is outside before you let them in. You can then talk to them as you politely deny them entry, or call out a more civilized “coming!”

DJI Phantom Vision+

Amazon’s popular line of ebook readers and tablets really are on fire. Aside from Samsung’s Galaxy tablets, the Kindle Fires are the only slates capable of giving the iPad a run for your money. Last September, Amazon introduced three new low-priced Kindles: 6- and 7-inch versions of its Fire HD ($99 and $139, respectively), which compete with the iPad mini, and a new higher-resolution Fire HDX, a $379 tablet that goes head to head with the iPad Air.

Apple Watch

Smartphones, hi-tech cameras, and security videos are making the world eminently recordable, allowing us to monitor and revisit our every move. But nothing is pushing the video boundaries as much as camera-wielding drones, and few camera-wielding drones are doing it like the DJI Phantom 2 Vision+. The roughly $1,200 device is expensive, but it’s known for its exceptional flight capabilities and powerful camera—and it’s cheaper than other high-end drones. It allows joyriders to gain a birds-eye view of nearly any terrain.

The Apple Watch wants to do to your wrist what the iPhone did to your pocket: stick a computer there. For at least $349, watchwearers will access apps, weather, photos, texts, emails, payments and, through Apple’s HomeKit software, control thermostats, door locks, televisions and lights. The watch’s sleek interface is mounted on a customizable strap, and it actually doesn’t make you look like a geek. First revealed this year but not on store shelves for a few more months, it’s a daring foray into the wearable market: Apple could be the first company to make wearable computers ubiquitous.

AWARDS AT IIT KHARAGPUR Students from Manav Rachna College of Engineering came out with flying colours at IIT Kharagpur. They competed at TROCHIA and HOVERPOD where over 43 and 70 teams participated and they bagged top positions

I

NDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY KHARAGPUR organized National Students Space Challenge from October 31st 2014 – November 2nd, 2014. TROCHIA was an event where students had to brainstorm in order to design and build a robot capable of changing orbits on its own. With all the orbits almost packed with satellites, it is high time that a satellite capable of taking up more responsibilities comes into the picture. . The satellite had to have the ability to move to lower orbits for fixing shuttles, medium orbits for monitoring weather and higher orbits for the positioning. But this would not be achieved unless the satellite was able to change its orbit during motion. Team of four students from MRCE participated in this event. They competed with 43 teams and secured the second position. Students from MRCE, 5the semester who participated at this event were Mehul Dudeja, Vijay Pal, Pankaj and Yogesh Gupta At HOVERPOD the MRCE students , Yogesh Gupta and Shivankar Adsul secured the 1st Position . Their challenge was as follows: It’s the year 2270, star date 6000. Star fleet can no longer use Warp-Drives, as all the reservoirs of Di-lithium Crystals on any of the known republic planets have depleted. But captain Kirk, of the USS Enterprise has located a planet in a very far off location, emitting X-ray signature similar to that of Di-lithium Crystal planet, and hence, a surveyor mission has to be sent to the planet for close observation. But there is a problem. DI-lithium Crystals are usually extracted from the semi-solid/liquid DI-lithium Crystal ore, which would be present in oceans and shallow regions of this otherwise terrestrial planet, and hence, for close inspection, conventional 6-wheel rovers are not a good choice. Also, Di-lithium Crystal ore easily reacts with minimal changes in temperature, so rocket propelled rovers can’t be used. But since the planet has a mass close enough to support an atmosphere, Spock has come up with an old but in genuine idea, using which the surface mapping of the planet can be done easily. This in genuine Idea is not to use a conventional rover, or rocket propelled rovers which do not touch the ground, but to use a ‘Hovercraft’ and then survey the planet. At the HOVERPOD they competed with 70 teams from all over India and were declared the winners of the event.

Temptations become powerless when the power of learned ones blessings and your will power protects you in this form of reflection and non- attachment. But success ensures only if you are sincere in your pursuit. Self effort has as much importance in spiritual life as a spirit of self surrender has. Self effort is not in conflict with self surrender. Brave ones plunge into rigorous sadhna without waiting for grace to descend. Integrate your action and thought in the light of Truth which you received from the learned ones or scriptures or your evolutionary experiences if you assert by word the imperishability of the soul while at the same time you are overwhelmed by the fear of death & destruction, how can you remain loyal to the Divine Master within. GURGAON: Shoppers and shopkeepers

have suddenly become cautious about garbage disposal at the Vyapar Kendra market in Sushant Lok-1. Thanks to the 20 new garbage bins installed during the ‘HT Clean my Gurgaon campaign’ on Sunday. The garbage bins have been kept in public view therefore, making it accessible for people. T housands of people, including MCG commissioner, residents, shopkeepers, social groups, students and teachers of Manav Rachna International School, had gathered on Sunday morning at the market to kick off ‘HT Clean My Gurgaon’ campaign. The campaign is an effort to bring together people to make the city cleaner. Residents of nearby condominiums such as Hamilton Court and Nirvana Country too joined the cleanliness drive. Availability of dustbins in public places reduces littering and therefore HT began with focusing on commercial areas. Traders were requested to keep two types of dustbins outside their shops in an effort to keep the city clean. Also, the dustbins are movable so that they don’t become stinking eyesores like the old concrete ones. The market, with more than 800 shops, attracts many visitors from Sushant Lok and nearby areas such as DLF 4. The residents of the locality said that this move has motivated them and they will practice waste segregation at home. “When we see that there is a dustbin, we automatically get conscious and throw the waste in the bin and not on the road. By installing dust bins of different colours, it is also easier for us to teach our children about waste segregation and recycling. We all generate waste and therefore managing waste is everyone’s responsibility not just the authority’s,” said Manasi Kapoor, a resident of Sushant Lok-1. The Municipal Cor poration of Gurgaon also decided on Sunday to levy a penalty of R500 on every commercial establishment that does not place dustbins outside their shops and in public view. It also committed to provide 30 garbage bins and 10 benches for the market and assured that the bins will be cleared regularly. Shopkeepers applauded the move and said that the imposition of penalty by the corporation is a good way to deter people from littering. “People tend to throw bottles, plastic bags, in the market. However, now with the penalty being levied and bins being placed at every short interval, littering will reduce to a great extent,” said Surender Rathi, a shopkeeper at Vyapar Kendra.

GURGAON: Armed with brooms and brushes, students of Manav Rachna International School in Sector 46 participated in large numbers in the HT Clean My Gurgaon campaign launch at the Sushant Lok Vayapar Kendra along the Raahgiri route on Sunday. Waking up early on a holiday, around 250 students, teachers and principal of the school swept the Vyapar Kendra market and its surroundings with gusto. Children from Manav Rachna School had also prepared a street play that they performed to spread awareness about cleanliness. “I was excited to participate in the drive and did not feel bad that my holiday was cancelled. Every Sunday, we just laze around at home. This time, we actually did something useful. I felt like I made a small difference to my society by cleaning the market area and spreading awareness,” said Ayush a Class 9 student of the school.

WE LEAVE WITH FOND MEMORIES TO TREASURE Students in their last semester of biotechnology are thankful to their teachers and the Management for giving them the opportunity for an overall development while pursuing their course at Manav Rachna International University. Bharti and Nitika Sharma from M.Sc Biotechnology share their thoughts on the threshold of knowledge Manav Rachna International University provided me the platform in finding the real personality in myself and in establishing the actual confidence in me. I joined MRIU in July 2013 in the M.Sc Biotechnology course with full enthusiasm and anxiety. My goal was to acquire as much knowledge as I could while pursuing my course. I joined the course with only academics in mind but to my utmost pleasure, I realized in the first few days of joining my course that the University was going to offer me a platform for studies as well as co- curricular activities. In the course of my stay at MRIU, I participated in many of these activities which gave me a platform to acquire experience and knowledge. But academics was foremost in my mind and I secured 92% which came with compliments from my teachers and my friends ! Learning the importance of values was another important part of my personality development at MRIU. I have always valued honesty. The ability of be-

ing fair and honest is at the top of my list of values, along with the ability to be kind and compassionate. I have tried my best to be honest with those around me, but moreover, with myself. It is my honest attitude which I think helped me to make considerable progress in my journey of knowledge at MRIU. My advice to students who are at the threshold of knowledge is : Despite numerous challenges and temptations that a student may encounter during college years, it is the perfect place to discover oneself. Believe in yourself and follow the path of truth and your goal will be both beautiful and see your dreams come true. I would like to thank my HOD Dr Sarita Sachdeva and my mentor Dr Pushpa Toma for their guidance which helped me traverse the right path. I shall miss MRIU and thank you Management for giving us the opportunity to excel. Bharti - M.Sc Biotechnology

BRAVERY AWARD Mr. Lokender Singh Sangwan, 19-year-old student of Manav Rachna College of Engineering, was honoured with the Bravery Award on Republic Day 2015. The Manav Rachna family applauds this feat of humanity and bravery. Lokender Singh Sangwan of 2nd year Mechanical Engineering from MRCE was honoured with a bravery award on Republic Day. He showed immense humanity and bravery trying to save the life of a bus conductor, Chinder Singh. A bus carrying college students met with an accident on December 5, 2014 at Sector-2 Ballabhgarh. No one in the vicinity was ready to help the conductor who lay under the bus. But our student, Mr. Sangwan, and the driver of the bus, took him out from under the bus with virtually no help and took him to Sarvodya Hospital at Sector-8, Faridabad. Sadly the bus conductor succumbed to his injuries. “I had only one thing in mind: The conductor’s life had to be saved,” says
