Letters Buzz THOUGHTS THAT MATTER
OPEN LETTER
By Dr. M.M.Kathuria
In memory of my dearest friend and founder of Manav Rachna…. Dr. O.P. Bhalla Music is the Soul of Life
U
niverse has come out of sound vibrations .The world of ours is of names & forms. Behind all the names and the forms there is the cosmic sound, the ‘OM’ that is God. Therefore, singing or chanting, humming or meditating silently on the cosmic sound is to be in tune M M Kathuria with the infinite. The best expression of this sound is Music. Music is the language of feeling. It is the expression of the inexpressible. Divine music elevates the soul. It makes the burden of life lighter. It purifies all emotions and fills the heart with pure love. This Divine love brings the experience of peace. Music is the finest of all arts. Devotional music is Yoga. It brings God-realization .It is the most efficacious method in awakening the hidden potentiality in man. It raises the cosmic energy, in a soothing way. Divine Music heals the mind and the body. The Soul- stirring rhythms create great vibrations and bring peace individually and universally. Entertainment Music is different from divine Music. Their effects are also different. If one induces sense pleasures the other brings God- union. If one titillates the nerves, exciting passions, the other inspires the soul to hasten to God. If one brings momentary happiness the other brings illumination & permanent bliss. If one excites emotions, the other pacifies emotions and transforms them into devotion to truth. Divine Music is the best medicine for neurosis. When you sing out your emotions, you find perfect relaxation. The rhythm of music, is the rhythm in our system. Our thoughts, emotions and breath become rhythmic. Practice of music purifies ‘Prana, releasing abundant energy. The whole central nervous system is inundated by the cosmic energy. The brain is relaxed by the sound waves. In expressing feelings, sculpture, painting, poetry dance and music are considered as wonderful vehicles. Music is the most subtle and the finest of them all. Seven are the ingredients that constitute the human body, seven are the days of a week, seven are the races, seven are the great mountains, seven are the oceans, this number 7(Seven) applies to the musical notes as well. Both in Eastern and Western Music, the musical note are only seven. God loves Music; Narad is ever with his Tambure. Chaitainya Mahaprabhu constantly sang the devotional Kirtan. Goddess Saraswati in the Indian Scriptures is worshiped as the Goddess of learning and Music. She is playing the ‘Veena’. Musician, Saints and learned ones meditate on Goddess Saraswati for obtaining more Knowledge of Music.
MANAGEMENT THOUGHTS
THE LEADERSHIP ODYSSEY
Believe you can and you are half way through. Dear Students,, WProving yourself successful in career or academics has always been a huge challenge. Life demands at every step and do not think that once your student career gets over these challenges will come to an end. In fact the journey begins thereafter. While you are preparing for your future here are some tips for journey to success.

Why the best leaders are immortal and they are remembered for eternity.
T
hink for a moment about the leaders we respect – whether they lead countries, organizations, communities, or families – who continue to live on because of the way they have shaped our thoughts and beliefs. Even though we may not notice it in the moment, the most effective leaders forever alter the course of our life. Chances are, we will have many opportunities to lead during our own lifetime. If we are able to seize these opportunities, our influence will continue to grow for generations to come. Maybe it’s the desire to make a lasting impact on the world that drives so many of us to want to lead. In a recent Gallup Poll, respondents were asked to rate their own leadership ability. Out of 1,001respondents randomly surveyed, 97% rated their ability to lead as being at or above average. And more than two-thirds said they have led a group or team. The fact is, whether we are taking charge in a boardroom, on a class room, or even in at our home, it is likely that we will find ourselves leading at some point in our life. Findings of the research may be summarized in following manner: In the workplace, when an organization’s leadership fails to focus on individuals’ strengths, the odds of an employee being engaged are a dismal 1 in 11 (9%). But when an organization’s leadership focuses on the strengths of its employees, the odds soar to almost 3 in 4 (73%). So that means when leaders focus on and invest in their employees’ strengths, the odds of each person being engaged goes up eightfold. It may be summed up here that increase in meaningful engagement translates into substantial gains for the organization’s bottom line and each employee’s well-being. While the best leaders are not well-rounded, the best teams are. Researches found that top-performing teams have strengths in specific domains i.e. Executing, Influencing, Relationship Building, Strategic Thinking. People follow leaders for very specific reasons. When asked thousands of followers, they were able to describe exactly what they need from a leader with remarkable clarity, which are Trust, Compassion, Stability, and Hope. A baby giraffe falls 10 feet from its mother’s womb and usually lands on its back. Within seconds it rolls over and tucks its legs under its body. From this position it considers the world for the first time and shakes off the last vestiges of the birthing fluid from its eyes and ears. Then the mother giraffe rudely introduces
its offspring to the reality of life. The mother giraffe lowers her head long enough to take a quick look. Then she positions herself directly over her calf. She waits for about a minute, and then she does the most unreasonable thing. She swings her long, pendulous leg outward and kicks her baby, so that it is sent sprawling head over heels. When it doesn’t get up, the violent process is repeated over and over again. The struggle to rise is momentous. As the baby calf grows tired, the mother kicks it again to stimulate its efforts. Finally, the calf stands for the first time on its wobbly legs. Then the mother giraffe does the most remarkable thing. She kicks it off its feet again. Why? She wants it to remember how it got up. In the wild, baby giraffes must be able to get up as quickly as possible to stay with the herd, where there is safety. Lions, hyenas, leopards, and wild hunting dogs all enjoy young giraffes, and they’d get it too, if the mother didn’t teach her calf to get up quickly and get with it. “Successful People are beaten over the head, knocked down, vilified, and for years they get nowhere. But every time they’re knocked down they stand up. You cannot destroy these people. And at the end of their lives they’ve accomplished some modest part of what they set out to do”. Everything rises and falls on leadership. There are two ways one can get others to do what you want; one can compel them to do it or one can persuade them. Compulsion is method of slavery while persuasion is the method of true leadership. Persuading requires an understanding of what makes people tick and what motivates them; that is, a knowledge of human nature, great leader posses that knowledge

1. Imagination often turns into reality. Any task to be performed, if nurtured with love can become reality. Give it a try with all sincerity and watch your dreams taking shape. Never stop imagining. Choose habits that will lead you to success and by repeating them they become a reflex action and help you to do better in life and bring discipline. These habits could be positive thinking, being on time, being more considerate, getting a stronger will power or staying calm in difficult situations. Develop inner strength and permit not the mood-swings to tilt your boat. Navigate the boat of your mind wherever you want. Climb over the obstacles or change your path if it compels you to do so. But never give up the struggle. Never lose hope, no matter how bleak things look. Hope is a rope which pulls you up. Never loosen your grip. Read books and articles that inspire you. Read and absorb, let it sink in. Try to apply the teachings to work in your situation. Be an optimist. Positive thinking can do half the job and the confidence in you can make you climb the ladder of success faster. Your body language can change and send good vibrations to like-minded people you came across. Thishelps in building up the influencing power and also minimize self-defeating thoughts. Focus on the goal with clear visualization and affirmation can get you closer to the destination. Believe in your determination. Determined mind can take you to the top fearlessly. Your time at hand is like money in your bank. How much to spend and where is to be carefully planned by you. Wasting it in wrong project investment can make you time-wise bankrupt, always unable to find time to fulfill your commitments. Do not get into this sticky situation. Keep the window of your mind open to allow the flow of suggestions. This will permit you to find new opportunities and if the opportunities knock the door, open it immediately. Participate in variety of activities to keep learning and this will also help you to remove any kind of boredom that sets in stagnation.
University gives you many chances throughout the year. Grab the opportunities to follow your inner voice and go-ahead. Success is within your sight if you are on the right track. Here are few quotations for you to paste on your notice-board to be read again and again and see how it changes your outlook. “There is no elevator to success. You have to take the stairs.”

“LEAVE YOUR MARK, LEAVE YOUR STAMP BEHIND”: CHETAN CHAUHAN The former cricketer who played 40 Test matches for India and is also an Ex- Hon’ble Member of Parliament, was addressing students and Faculty members at the Manav Rachna International University at an informal meet before he gave away the prizes for the 9th Manav Rachna Corporate Cricket Cup 2016
W
elcoming the cricketer, Dr Amit Bhalla Vice President MREI said , “The Manav Rachna Corporate Cricket Cup is an example of a dream come true,” while referring to the dream which the Founder of Manav Rachna, Dr O.P.Bhalla had dreamt. He reiterated the fact that it was a platform for Corporates to come and play the game of cricket in a fair and clean manner. And this he said was due to the efforts of Mr Sarkar Talwar who was a pillar of sports at MR.
“There is no substitute to hard work. Khel is tapasya” said the former Indian test cricketer who made India proud with the numerous runs he scored for India whether in the country or abroad. His commitment and love for his country is so great that having stayed in Australia for a few years he decided to come back to his country to settle for good. “We are Indians and always remain Indians and that is what made me come back to my own country,” said the cricketer who served as a Bank
Manager before taking cricket as his full time career. “Honesty is the keyword to success in whatever job you may perform and every job must have a singularity of purpose. Put in your hundred percent in whatever you do,” he stressed as he ad-
dressed a spell bound audience at the MRIU Campus. “When we step on to the field we think of the billion people who have their hopes on us and our motto is not to disappoint them. They have their hopes on us and therefore there is no room for mistakes,” said Chetan Chauhan who said Gary Sobers and Rohan Kanhai are probably the best cricketers which the world has ever seen. Mr Vikrant Gupta, sports journalist, and Sr. Sports Editor, Aaj Tak & India Today group, also had the audience listen to him in
full attention when he narrated his life experiences with famous cricketers like Sachin Tendulakar who he had interviewed. He emphasized the sacrifices which need to be made to reach the ‘top’ in life and these sacrifices are made by the player and his family and “it isn’t an easy journey to the top,” said the sports journalists who himself is an ardent cricketer. “Coming to Manav Rachna is always a pleasure,” he said smiling “and I am already looking forward to the next series.”

SAVE PAPER
A
s desired by the Vice President, Manav Rachna Educational Institutions, as a Group that values sustainable initiatives, plans to implement a proposal with a view to reduce its environmental footprint and in turn also reduce certain costs. One of the initiatives being proposed for implementation as the first step is to reduce the use of paper. There are many easy ways for institutions and businesses to reduce the use of paper and the related costs. A reduction by even up to 50 percent or more is possible in most offices, if awareness about the importance of these steps is disseminated and appreciated. Here are some practical tips to help implementing an environment-friendly and cost-saving, paper reduction program: • The golden rule of saving paper:Think twice if you really need to print. • If it is necessary to print make sure printing is done on both sides of the paper. This is an effective method to reduce paper consumption by almost half. • Format reports in such a way that avoidable descriptions are summarized in excel sheets. For example, the monthly reports by various departments will now be required to be submitted mainly in excel format. • Please submit the departmental monthly report to all concerned electronically. • Even for other reports / documents please make conscious efforts to limit the number of hard copies to the minimum required by any office, and in only unavoidable cases. • Please scan and e-mail instead of print and copy, the documents that are filled up in printed formats. This is a great way to distribute multiple copies of a document. • All departments, colleges and schools are being advised to also submit a brief report on the reduction in use of paper by them on a monthly basis through a simple communication.
