he Manav Rachna University campus was witness to various activities and initiatives on women-centric issues from 12 February, 2016 which culminated on 8 March in celebration of International Women’s Day. On 26 February, 2016 as part of the Women’s Empowerment programme the Chief Guest was Smt. Maneka Gandhi, Hon’ble Union Minister for Women and Child Development who spoke of the various initiatives her Ministry had undertaken for the safety of Women. The programme which emphasized on ‘Being Empowered and Empowering Others’ was presided over by Smt Satya Bhalla, Chief Patron, Manav Rachna Educational Institutions and several senior dignitaries including Dr Sanjay Srivastava, Managing Director, Manav Rachna Educational Institutions (MREI); Dr N.C. Maneka Gandhi informed that cell phones in the coming months will be equipped with alarm buttons that would be connected to police stations via satellite to help people in distress. Her announcement that every boy student who champions the cause of girls in his class would be made a gender champion and given a scholastic award was met with loud applause. Smt. Maneka Gandhi invited interested persons/NGOs to train at least 200 women in “amazing areas” such as organic agriculture, handloom or handicrafts to help them earn a decent livelihood. That apart, she spoke about the setting up of the Women Entrepreneurship Council by the end of the year. Her parting lines were: “Do unto others what you would want others to do unto you,” Ms Maneka Gandhi,Hon’ble Union Minister for Women and Child Development while speaking on the subject of empathy at MREI which she claimed was her mantra in life. roles in society.” She urged women to be strong to seek support from society at large. Her evocative lines, “Nari mein hai shakti sari, phir kyon woh hai bechari’ where women are perceived as victims drew deep appreciation from the audience. Ms. Lalitha Kumarmangalam felt that women need to be aware of two tough laws that govern their rights: the first concerns sexual harassment in the workplace which applies for both men and women and the second law centers around domestic violence. In most cases, women have no idea about the laws that are in place. For instance, a woman does not know that her paternal home remains her home as long as she is alive and the fact that she has equal right to property as any of her siblings.” Under the aegis of the Women Empowerment series ‘Swayamsiddha: Celebrating being a Woman’ being observed at Manav Rachna International University, the All India Council for Human Rights, Liberties and Social Justice had earlier launched the campaign ‘Main Tulsi Teri Aangan ki’ under the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Pado’ initiative of the Haryana Government. The poster for the campaign was launched at the national level in Manav Rachna International University. Additionally, a National Conference on ‘Women in Media:Yesterday,Today and Tomorrow’ was organized at MREI , by the Faculty of Media Studies and Humanities on 8 March , 2016 in which former Captain of Indian Women Cricket Team, Ms. Anjum Chopra, was the Chief Guest.

World Water Day is an annual event celebrated on March 22. The day focuses attention on the importance of freshwater and advocates for the sustainable management of freshwater resources, according to Wikipedia. Students from MRIS speak their minds on World Water day and water conservation — the need of the hour.
T
he UN and its member nations devote this day to implementing UN recommendations and promoting concrete activities within their countries regarding the world’s water resources. Additionally, a number of nongovernmental organizations promoting clean water and sustainable aquatic habitats have used World Water Day as a time to focus attention on the critical issues of our era, according to sources. Events such as theatrical and musical celebrations, educational events, and campaigns to raise money for access to clean and affordable water are held worldwide on World Water Day, or on convenient dates close to March 22. Lets celebrate World Water Day by spreading the word about global water and energy conservation. When you open your tap today and, as if by miracle (and thanks to a good deal of engineering), a stream of clean and drinkable water starts flowing, think of the millions of people for whom such basic access is not so simple. Lets strive to achieve this .

flow direction have indicated the movement of the groundwater pointing out that the heavy groundwater extraction in the surrounding areas is causing out flow from the lake area. In order to check the outflow, using the geophysical and hydrogeological data, it is recommended to construct four sub surface dykes, which will help in recovering the ground water levels over the years”. “The above options for water resources to revive the lake also meets the requirements of the smart city which provides for the recycling of the wastewater and water conservation practices”, informed Dr. Prashant Bhalla, President, MREI. WATER: OUR LIFE LINE W ater, the most common substance on earth. It has been with us every moment of everyday and is the fundamental building block of life. Every living thing just needs water. From agriculture to hydro electricity power, we use water in million different ways. It acts outside on own physical laws of nature, do we really know the secrets of this amazing element. Pollution, Global Climatic Change increasing demands on our planet, our ignorance has let us to abuse water quality and forget its potential. Understanding the mysteries of water, is critical to our existence and survival. Examine water as if never seen before. New technology, scientific discoveries and vital information have unveiled endless possibilities of water potential and its heeling power. New discoveries goes beyond human reckoning beyond solar system and galaxies, to the source of life itself. Water had so much importance in ancient India and Hindu culture that there are as many as 70 nomenclatures for water in Sanskrit. Initially the uses of water were limited to simple domestic purposes such as drinking, cooking, bathing and washing. Later, as mankind developed, the techniques of using ground water through shallow wells, erecting small dams to store water behind it, transporting via canals led to spreading of communities away from rivers. Domestic use of water is no more simple but also includes cooking, heating, sanitary purposes, watering lawns or maintaining private swimming

pools. Further, there are public uses such as water required in hospitals, educational institutions, hostels, prisons, parks, gardens, fire-sighting, etc. In addition, there are commercial uses as office buildings, hotels and restaurants, laundries, shopping centers, bus, railways and air terminals, etc. Water is also used in great quantities in different industries for manufacturing and processing purposes. Other present day crucial uses of water are in irrigation, hydropower, navigation, recreation, etc. Excessive rainfalls causes floods and damages to life and properties, while scanty rainfalls lead to drought. Because so many crucial aspects are associated with water, this BLUE GOLD should be used and managed judiciously to get the maximum benefits to the society as a whole. India is a vast country and receives annual precipitation of about 4000 km3. Out of this, monsoon rainfall is about 3000 km3. Rainfall is also observed in interiors of the country and thus India has a wide temporal and spatial variation in rainfall. Since the availability of water on ground surface is through streams and rivers and from underground through ground water resources, it is necessary to consider the entire watershed as one unit and should be developed and managed accordingly. Such comprehensive watershed development and management programme should include activities as: I.Water supply management. II.Water-excess/water deficit management III. Environmental restoration. An Open Letter to Students - Check Your Self
Apart from making choices, one has to discipline the time management. This will help you throughout your life. Plan time for everything and arrange as per priority. Little sacrifice of sleep can give you so much of time to do things you have been postponing. No steam or gas ever drives anything until put under pressure and confined. No life grows until it is focused, dedicated and disciplined. No man is free who is not a master of himself. Self-respect is the fruit of discipline; the sense of dignity grows with the ability to say NO to oneself. Sir Rabindranath Tagore, noble prize winning poet once said, “I have on my table a violin string. It is free. But it is not free to do what a violent string is supposed to do - to produce music. So I take it, fit-it in my violin and tighten it until it is taut. Only then it is free to be a violin string.” This is the trick of right use of time and its management. Real freedom is not freedom from, but freedom for. Discipline without freedom is tyranny, freedom without discipline is chaos. Once a lady sitting next to me on a flight after eating half of her food from the tray, started putting salt in her chocolate pudding. I was shocked and asked her the reason for doing so. She said “it is necessary to do so, it will keep me from eating it. I discipline myself.”
Dear Students, As we grow we start taking charge of our life and start showing off our independence from early age. Have we ever realized that with taking up of responsibility of oneself life requires discipline? Yes tons of it. It demands the total command over empty passions and wrong habits. One has to check oneself constantly of minor and major temptations from time to time. But more than anything it demands a relentless focus on what matter most. We face daunting obstacles at every step in the form of opposing choices and to overcome all this and enjoy greater portion of success we need to follow the path of discipline. Robert Frost, the famous poet, thinker and philosopher noted at an earlier age that “life is tons of discipline.” No matter who you are, no matter what pursuits, living a life of meaning requires discipline. And the key is that it is much easier to say NO to temptations if we have a deeper YES burning within. Particularly the student’s life needs to be consciously aware of temptations knocking at the door constantly. Wrong friends, their influence in life style and quick easy gains and pleasures of life drive you away from the purpose you aimed initially. At your age the realization comes when all is lost and it is too late. Therefore, this letter of affectionate reminder to you, the young ones. Always think before taking any action and imagine the approval of your parents and seniors. Even if there is a slight doubt that they would not approve, do not walk on that path without having talked to them personally. Never permit the greed to over ride the purpose.
Let us start getting firm with our-self and keep a good check in all our doings keeping away from all kinds of temptations as one of the advertisements says ऊपर वाला सब देख रहा है I With Love Goldy Malhotra

It is a medium of realizing the importance of fresh water and advocating the sustainable management of fresh water resources. It is important to conserve water since water is the basis of life and only 1 percent of the total water on our planet is available as fresh water used by its 7 billion people. We can conserve water by using some of the following simple tips. - Turn the water off all the way after using the sink and do not let the water drip. - Turn the water off while brushing your teeth - Tell the restaurant waiter not to get water to the table unless you are going to drink it. - Rinse your fruits and veggies in a tub rather than in running water. - Take a shorter shower or use a bucket to bathe. “ Why to save water” – Water Conservation: Water is one of the nature’s precious gifts to mankind. All living things consist mostly of water eg. the human body is of two thirds of water. Water is the most essential component of life and is vital for sustenance. The importance of water in our diet can be seen as it helps the body to perform specific metabolic tasks and regulates our body temperature. There is no doubt that water is everywhere and it is very important to our Earth and the life inhabiting it. Water contains no calories and is a significant factor in losing weight. It is the key component in determining the quality of our lives and is a universal solvent. We have the same amount of water now as there was when the earth was created. This is the water we have, and we must preserve its quality. Water is the foundation of food and life. Next to air, water is our most precious resource. We cannot live without water. Saving Water helps to preserve our environment. It reduces the energy required to process and deliver water, which helps in reducing pollution and in conserving fuel resources. Saving water now means having water available in the future for all our life purposes. If we save water now, we are helping to ensure a water supply enough for future generations. Saving water saves money. We must save water today so that it will be available to us in the future. We need to think of future generations, people who will not have a sufficient supply of water unless we become more concerned with how we use our water today. Water is known as the elixir of life. So Conserve water to save life. ARNAV TIKKO MRIS 21C
growth and affluence all affect how much water is used. Factors such as climate change will increase pressures on natural water resources especially in manufacturing and agricultural irrigation.[1] The goals of water conservation efforts include: The withdrawal of fresh water from an ecosystem does not exceed its natural replacement rate. Energy conservation. Water pumping, delivery and waste water treatment facilities consume a signif-

icant amount of energy. In some regions of the world over 15% of total electricity consumption is devoted to water management. Habitat conservation. Minimizing human water use helps to preserve freshwater habitats for local wildlife and migrating waterfowl, as well as reduces the need to build new dams and other water diversion infrastructures. People have supported me in this effort and we have been able to generate awareness on this issue.
Conserving water is conserving ourselves. We should at least make one contribution everyday, which even small children can make. Most of us wait for World Water Day to talk and think about the importance of water. Why can everyday not be a World Water Day. Small contributions daily will make a big difference globally. Ishan Krish Kumar Grade IV, MRIS 46 Gurgaon
Mehak Arora Grade V, MRIS 46 Gurgaon Water is the most common liquid on Earth. It covers about 71.4% of the Earth. Water is very important for life. However, some studies suggest that by (2025) more than half of the people around the world will not have enough water. So we had to save water for our future. Some tips to conserve water are - There are a number of ways to save water, and they all start with you. When washing dishes by hand, don’t let the water run while rinsing. Minimize evaporation by watering during the early morning hours, when temperatures are cooler and winds are lighter.Collect the water you use for rinsing and reuse it to water houseplants.Only water your lawn when needed.Consider installing new appliances. They are more water and energy-efficient than older appliances. A new washing machine can save up to 20 gallon per load. When you clean your fish tank, use the water you’ve drained on your plants. The water is rich in nitrogen and phosphorus, providing you with a free and effective fertilize. When doing laundry, match the water level to the size of the load. Teach your children to turn the tap tightly after use.Don’t water your lawn on windy days . After all , sidewalks and driveways don’t need water.Water your plants deeply but less frequently to create healthier and stronger landscapes. When watering grass on steep slopes, use a soaker hose to prevent wasteful runoff.Group plants with the same watering needs together to get the most out of your watering time.Turn off the water while you brush your teeth and save 3 gallons a minute. That’s more than 1000 gallons a year.Encourage your school system and local government to help develop and promote water saving behaviors among children and adults.Teach your family how to shut off your automatic watering systems.Do one thing each day that will save water. Every drop counts!Cook food in as little water as possible. This will also retain more of the nutrients.Water only as rapidly as the soil can absorb the water. MRIS Sector 14 students speak: Thoughts on- WORLD WATER DAY Water conservation Water is priceless and magical. From time immemorial, it has been our master, dictating where and how we live. Unfortunately, now, we try to tame the free spirit of water. We use rivers dry, tag a price to it and choke their purity by dumping every imaginable piece in them. At present, it is an alarming situation for all of us to conserve water, not only for ourselves but also for the future generation. According to the various scientific studies, the natural resources would soon deplete completely. Water conservation is very important. Rain water harvesting is an important method of water conservation. We must all join our hands together in our efforts to save water. There are various methods of water conservation. Some of them are:- Using less water and avoiding wastage of water. For example: - using a bucket rather than using a pipe for washing a car. • Recycling water. • Better management of water by civic authorities. Example:- preventing leakage from pipes. • Using better methods of irrigation such as drip irrigation. • Effective flood control, especially by building dams and reservoirs • Using biodegradable fertilizers and pesticides so that groundwater is not contaminated. Devanshi Jain MRIS Sector 14
Water conservation Water is the precious gift to from God.. Everything on the earth needs water like human beings, animals, trees, plants, insects, and other living things. Balance of water on the earth goes through the process like raining and evaporation. Three-fourth surface of the earth is surrounded by water however, contains very less percentage of clean water and is not fit for human use. So, the problem is with the scarcity of clean water. Clean water is a very essential component of life, so we need to conserve water for the future safety. If we save water; we save life and save whole world on the earth. We should join our hands together and take a pledge of using water according to need only without contaminating it. We should save our water from water pollution by inhibiting the mixing of industrial wastes and other wastes into the water. There should be proper waste management system which must be followed by everyone. Gauri Kakar(8B), MRIS Sector 14
Ways to Conserve Water Conservation of water is the need of the hour today. This is because the ever - increasing population has put an immense pressure on our life - sustaining water resources. As citizens of the world , we can , in our small way , contribute towards water conservation. Firstly, we can implement rain - water harvesting in all our homes. Also, waste water can be recycled by utilising it for small tasks like gardening. Then, closing of taps and showers and then repairing dripping taps will go a long way in this endeavour. In agriculture, efficient irrigation systems like drip irrigation and overhead irrigation can make a difference in both the yield and the water conservation. Recharge pits can be dug, which can capture rainwater and stop runoff. This will recharge ground water supply. On a global scale, trees can be planted. This measure will prevent water runoff. Also, it will help rainwater penetrate the soil. Another efficient measure is to use desalination techniques such as distillation, electro - dialysis and reverse - osmosis for purification of water. On a similar note, sewage water can be treated in certified sewage treatment plants for drinking purposes. Lastly, storage of water can also be done in a scientific manner. Doing so will enhance the efficiency of utilisation of harvested water. Let us join hands and conserve water. After all, small drops make an ocean. Shlok Chawla,VI C, MRIS Sector 14

Ways to Conserve Water Water is more than just water; the existence of world is dependent on water. That’s why we called water is life. The primary reason is that every living element on Earth is consisting of approximately 65% to 70% of water in their body. Anyone can’t think of life without water whether it is Plants, Animals, Humans, and other living things. Water is the most important resource. We require water for drinking, making foods, for cleaning our body & other household items, for constructions, paints etc. Water is also used in agriculture. In spite of having 70% of water on earth but only 1% of water is fresh & useable and rest of water is salt and some water is in form of ice in the glaciers & icebergs. Nowadays, human beings are destroying the environment by wasting this 1% of clean water by various ways i.e. excessive use of water, throwing garbage into water bodies and careless use of water in their various household works etc. The more waste of water is the more we are consuming our natural resources like fossil fuels for generating electricity which requires for making clean water. Following are the main benefits of saving water: 1. Less use of natural resources like Fossil fuels for making of fresh water. 2. The more water we save, it will be use by the plants & animals. This helps to maintain balance the ecology. 3. We should save water to avoid drought in the coming future. 4. We should save water for its use in agriculture. We should save water for our future generations as one day it will be unavailable due to it is limited. We can save water by using bucket and mug to take bathe, not to clean fruits and vegetables in running water, Close taps when not in use etc. Let’s take a pledge that we will never waste water. About 70% of the earth surface is covered with water. Of all this water, only 0.3% is usable by humans, the remaining 99.7% is either unusable salt water or unavailable fresh water. Water is very important. Plants and animals need clean water to survive. People cannot survive more than a few days without water. We use water for drinking, bathing, growing food and gardens. The water we have now is all we will ever have. We cannot produce anymore. Water is a commodity that is essential to all life on this planet, and it needs our help. It is our responsibility to not only conserve our water supply, but to clean it up as well. We should save water on account of following reasons: 1. To ensure adequate supply of water for our future generation. 2. Though a large quantity of water can be recycled, but it consumes large amount of power, energy and money. 3. Clean water in lakes, oceans, rivers ensures healthy life of water animals. 4. Millions of people around the world are still deprived of clean and safe drinking water. We can save /conserve water in following ways: 1. Stop the misuse of water. 2. Manage the usage of water properly. 3. Stop discharging pollutants without proper treatment. 4. Take efforts in maintaining the quality of water. 5. Stop wastage of water in our toilet. 6. Promote rain-water harvesting and irrigation projects. Mihika, MRIS 21 C
Water Conservation Water is vital to life. As we all know that less than 1% of all the water on the earth can be used by people and rest 99% is either salt water or is in frozen form. With today’s growing population more people are using up this limited resource. Thus it is important to us to use water wisely and save it as much as we can through different ways of water conservation. Some easy ways to conserve water1. Don’t leave the tap running needlessly close the taps even if you need it at very short intervals. 2. Convert your toilet to a dual flush, and don’t flush it more than necessary. 3. Use water meter to check for hidder water leaks. 4. Plant water resistance lawns, shrubs and plants. 5. Purchase water efficient product & appliances for your home. 6. Rain water harvesting should be encouraged. 7. Use layer of mulch around your plants & they will retain moisture for longer period. 8. Using a water sensor is a smart idea. Only through water conservation we can keep water pure and safe for generation to come. Conserving water can also save energy and protect our natural eco system. Nischay Naman, MRIS 21C
Water Conservation Why to Conserve Water People should do their best to conserve water for three reasons. The less water used or wasted by people, the less clean water will become contaminated. In some cases, using excess amounts of water puts strain on septic and sewage systems, leading to contamination of groundwater, as untreated, dirty water seeps from the sewage system into the ground. Water conservation reduces energy use and can even save households money. Most families pay to use water in their cities or regions. The less water a household uses, the less they have to pay each period. Appliances that use water, such as washing machines and dishwashers, also use a considerable amount of energy. Conserving water now allows cities and regions to plan for more efficient use of the water resources in the future. If most of an area’s clean water is wasted, there will not be water for future generations to use, meaning the city will need to come up with new ways to produce clean, fresh water, which will ultimately be at the taxpayers’ expense. How to Conserve Water People can save water by making smart choices at home. They should only use appliances that rely on water when those appliances are full. For example, a family should wait to use the dishwasher until it is completely loaded with dishes. Surprisingly, using the dishwasher uses less water than washing by hand. Other ways to conserve water include taking shorter showers and only watering gardens and lawns when necessary. Older toilets use around five or six gallons of water every time they are flushed. If the toilet cannot be replaced, one way to save water is to put a brick or a soda bottle full of water into the tank. The brick will displace water, meaning less is needed. New models of toilet use around 1.6 gallons of water per flush. Some models also have a dual flush option, meaning more water is used only when necessary Nirmit Kohil Gr V , MRIS 21C

Water is precious
Water is the one of the most important natural resources on earth. All plant and animals must have water to survive. That’s why we should conserve water. We can conserve water in many ways:• Turn off the tap when you brush your teeth. This can save 6 litres of water per minute. • Place a cistern displacement device in your toilet cistern to reduce the volume of water used in each flush. • Take a shorter shower. Shower can use anything between 6 and 45 litres per minute. • Water your garden with a watering can rather than a hosepipe. • Store the water falling down from the fridge and air conditioners. Water your plants with that water. • Drip irrigation is a method that saves water and fertilizer by allowing water to drip slowly to the roots of plants. • Rain water harvesting can be a brilliant way to reuse rain water. • These are some of the few ways in which we can conserve water. YAGAY KHATRI VII Halley, MRIS Charmwood
Water is an essential part of life on earth. Water is the lifeline of all the life forms on earth. Water is precious. But as the number of humans is increasing, the amount of water is depleting slowly and steadily. We must understand the importance of water. Water is present everywhere, from the food we eat, to the air we breathe. In humans, water helps in transportation of materials and nutrients. Humans can survive without food for up to a month, but without drinking water survival is limited to a matter of days. In plants, water helps in photosynthesis which is the main life process in plants. Moreover, rain is a very essential part of the ecological system. Despite Earth’s appearance of watery abundance, less than one percent of the water on Earth is actually fresh and usable. Water quality is inextricably linked to human health in many ways and poor water quality can lead to disease, reduced food availability and malnutrition. So, we really need to conserve our water resources. Pranati Mahajan VII Halley, MRIS Charmwood
ARTICLE ON “SAVE WATER” Leonardo Da Vinci once said that “Water is the driver of Nature. It’s the water which continues the life cycle on earth making us an exception in the whole Universe. But today this precious gift is in danger. Water crisis is the major issue for today’s world. Save Water ! Secure the Future ! There cannot be a safe future without water, if we are not ready to act today. It is our prime responsibility to conserve water. It is important for every need like food, drinking water, irrigating crops and plants, washing and cleaning our houses. Farmers cannot grow crops without water. Due to drought, farmers face big losses in farming. Many girl children never go to school in Rajasthan because they fetch water from long distances for their household chores. Now it’s time to act and follow some simple steps : • • Don’t leave the Tap open when it is not in use. • • Use tubs and mugs for bath. • • Use waste water for watering plants. • • Weed your lawn and gardens regularly. • • Wash your pets outdoor in an area of the lawn. • • Use dishwashers for washing utensils. • • Use drip and sprinklers for irrigation at farm. • As we know each drop of water contribute into the formation of Ocean. • DURLABH BISWAS VGRADE – IV, ARCTIC, MRIS Charmwood Water Is Life Save Water Save Nature A drop of water is more precious than gold or any other stone.Without water we cannot live, so we should always conserve water. We can conserve water by using a mug and a bucket for taking bath instead of a shower. THOUGHTS THAT MATTER
DR M M KATHURIA, TRUSTEE, MANAV RACHNA
Human longing for lord is an intimate instinct in all of us ; and since this desire is universal, it is quite natural that songs of a spiritual nature should be found in the music of every country. Therefore we may call ‘Music’ as a universal language capable of communicating between humans irrespective of cast creed and nationality. Be it an anthem, an opera or a ‘Harikatha’ a Bhajan, the idea behind these different forms of music remains the same. Like the ‘Jnana - marge , where meditation and self enquiry helps a seeker in his or her ‘Sadhna’, ‘NAD’, too helps in individual spiritual practice, ‘Swar’’Taal’ and ‘Bhav’ in music itself is a discipline and if listened to and practiced with devotion brings discipline and peace in your life. But in view of the modern busy way of life and environment many of us may find it impossible to practice .But it should not be impossible for the majority to find some time to partake in congregational prayer like ‘SATSANG ‘Namaskaram’. Human life can be made more musical to achieve an attunement of all our thoughts words and deeds. The subtler aspect of music like the ‘RAAG’ or ‘TAAL’ need not concern us much; but it is the ‘Bhav’ in music that pays. The importance of ‘Bhav’ can be appreciated if we think a while of the origin of the name ‘BHARAT’. It is the name of great sage after whom
our country is named. BHA in “Bharat means Bhav” , RA mean “RAGA” and TA means “TAAL” or the rhythm. They are arranged one after the other only to show us that TAL Should be subservient to RAG and RAG to BHAV. Not only that the ‘BHARAT’ new the rhythem of universe, music of AKASH the music of omnipresent. Knowledge and practices of music is very important in our lives. Swar, Taal & Bhav are a discipline itself and if listened to and practiced with devotion bring discipline and peace in our lives. Researchers have concluded that Music made patients more satisfied with the treatment & care they were given compared with patients in routine care. So powerful is the effect that Music therapy is increasing being made part of rehabilitations and stress associated with surgery and treatment of other stress related disorders. Divine Music is the best medicine in curing neurosis when you sing out your emotions or listen to divine music: you find perfect relaxation. The rhythm of the music sets the rhythm in our system. Our thoughts, emotions and breath become rhythmic which is so important for our mental and physical health.
Resolving the dilemma in choosing a career L
et’s begin by asking ourselves the basic question “Is choosing a career a dilemma”? I think the answer is a positive, emphatic Yes.Why? Because it is a decision on which rests one’s life? So this session is all about improving your life, not just choosing a career. But, to put it the other way round, the right kind of career has an enormous impact on one’s life. One wrong decision at this stage can virtually ruin one’s life. Hence, the necessity to resolve this dilemma in a methodical, careful manner i.e in a manner in which one can match one’s interests with the best career option available. As somebody has rightly said, “To live a happy working life, the most important step is to find out what you want to be in your life.” What is the dilemma? · What do you really want to do? A Very difficult question, indeed! · Too many choices? Confused? · Not all choices are known
You would be surprised how many people are working in jobs they hate simply because they did not go in for a bit of self analysis before taking them on. You have unique needs and choosing the wrong job can make your working hours a living hell · So, what do you choose? 1. So the first hurdle to cross is to know what all is on offer. 2. Next dilemma is – what are the pressures on a student at the time of choosing a career? For a successful career – 3 important things need to be followed Passion (P) – source of energy and creativity Vision (V) - crystal clear images of goal Action (A) – life is action not contemplation. Everything one does has to be in alignment with passion.
14
Any 2 of the above 3 are not enough. P + V is a Dreamer P + A is a Workaholic V + A is a moderately successful person P+ V+ A = all three are needed to attain exceptional human performance. This is mettle which makes Ordinary persons performing extra ordinarily well. A small truth to get 100% in life. We can assign a score of 1 to 26 to English alphabets A to Z respectively, then Hard work = 98% Knowledge = 96% Money = 72% Leadership = 89% Luck = 47% Attitude = 100% Every problem has a solution but only if we change our attitude, we can to go to the top. It is our attitude towards life and work that makes our life 100% successful.
MREI
A Successful Start To Live A Happy Working Life, The Most Important Step Is To Find Out What You Want To Be in your life...
Y
our ideal career choice would probably be to win a lottery, travel, and BE HAPPY. Unfortunately, very few people have the luxury of these options. So the question remains What do you really want to do? ‘’ I do not know ‘’ is the answer in most cases. For many students it is easier to think about what they do not want to be. Perhaps one thing you are sure of, for example is that you do not want to be a doctor, like your father: or a teacher, like your mother. Or you do not want to settle down in a small city like your family does. Still for some it is easier to sketch out the big picture to dream of becoming a pilot or a manager or a business tycoon……. Like most of us when you attempt to make career decisions you imagine careers that might be interesting (doctor , engineer designer..) You are left with hundreds of hazy mental images and opinions about potential career yet not so well informed to make a definite decision about which one to pursue. Perhaps one of your relatives or friends is a lawyer and you can easily picture yourself leading the glamorous life s \he describes to you. But before you dash off to a law school you need to do one little exercise: read the job description of a lawyer and ask yourself these questions can I do this job? Do I have the skills it requires? Will somebody be happy enough with my work to hand me a paycheque at the end of month? Only a few people are born seeming to know what career is right for them. Many find their way by trial and error, or almost by accident. They wait for opportunities to present themselves and take advantage of them as best as they can. Others let someone else make decisions for them. They follow the career path that is recommended to
them by a parent a friend or a teacher. Keep in mind that is no absolutely right way to figure out your life. What is right for your brother may not work for you. You are unique with a unique set of abilities potentials and skills Can you imagine Madonna as a guidance counselor or Albert Einstein as a fashion model ? Think about it this way if you are no good at Maths you would not enjoy being a mathematician. You have unique needs and choosing the wrong job can make your working hours a living hell. Conversely when you match your preferences to the realities of a job your work life can become meaningful and fulfilling. Thus finding a career that is right for you involves three crucial steps. Step 1 gathering information about self If you are one of the many normally confused teenagers (yes being confused is normal), increasing your awareness about who you are will ease your navigation through career exploration. Your hobbies, the subject you like best in school, your favourite books, magazines and TV programs, what you do in your spare time are all important clues to what kind of career would suit you best. Another important clue is how you prefer to do things. Do you prefer working with people information or things ? how do you want to work with them? The way to start recognizing your strongest interests is surprisingly simple. Start trusting your instincts and notice the way your mind and body react to different subjects. When you are really interested in something you are alert: you are tuned in your mind and body are engaged. When you are not as interested you get bored and your mind wanders. To get an immediate sense of what your strongest interests are reflect on : • Classes that excite you the most • Magazines you love to read • Conversations that you find intellectually inspiring • What you always want to read or hear about • What you LIKE to learn about, instead of what should learn about One of the purposes of education is to learn
15
what you like to do and how well you can do that? Although your school grades may indicate how well you will do in college they would not necessarily measure all the skills you have learned. Think about how your activities are related to having fun . Then notice, what skills are needed for the activities you love. • Is time management one of them? • Is decision making important? • Do you get along with almost everyone, or with one group of people more then another? Never pick a subject only for the job possibilities, if you dislike it. That is sure to be a disappointment to you in the long run. Some students choose their subjects • By what they want to be when they get out of school. • Others choose according to college admission requirements. • Still others take whatever is available to them. Step II gathering information about Careers You may have had a career goal for some time. If so your first objective in career exploration is to learn more about that career and have detailed information about various related careers. · Do not end up in college with a narrow view of jobs that you learned about through hearsay, through TV versions of lawyers, doctors, police officers, or through the latest parental pressure for you to be in. · This is probably the most important ‘homework’ you need to do. And with the kind of information available on different websites this isn’t a very difficult step. · If you have a particular course or University in mind – do a thorough reading of their website. Step III is a combination of step I and II After you have followed the three steps you should be in a much better ‘state-of mind’ to understand what career you really want to pursue. So go ahead and choose a career, which suits you best!! Brig S.N.Setia, Director Admissions MREI

As part of MRIIC’s ongoing activities, a number of companies are in different stages of incubation. These enterprises, most notably, ‘International Engineers Federation’, ‘Technoplanet
labs’, ‘Parallax Games’ and ‘Self Reliant Foundation’, already have in place well developed business plans with many about to enter their startup phase.
As Dr. Prashant Bhalla rightly explains, “Start ups are the
result of great imagination and belief to convert an idea into a solution that can bring a revolutionary change in society. They are a great opportunity for the young genius minds to showcase their talents to the world. Every big corporate today was a start up organization in the past, and at Manav Rachna we make sure
that our students get all the necessary support to convert their ideas into reality. MRIIC’s role in these start ups is very crucial and it starts right from the idea formulation stage. Critical analysis of the ideas and smart market research are extremely important for any start up to succeed and MRIIC ensures that we support the start up in any form that can help it to grow.”
Undoubtedly, the startups are an index of students’ enterpris-
ing spirit which goes well beyond their books and curriculum. The young minds continue to break new grounds with their innovative ideas and have faced real world challenges with relentless zeal and enthusiasm.

Slogan Writing Competition at MRIS Sector 14
I
n the current onslaught of pollution and global warming, conservation of energy can go a long way in safeguarding the lives of posterity. The students of Grade 7 at MRIS-14 engaged themselves in an Intra-Section Slogan Writing Competition on the theme-‘Save Electricity’ on 18 December, 2016 to create awareness on the necessity to limit power consumption. The students racked their brains to devise a five to seven worded slogan out of their paragraph-sized views. The activity helped our dynamic spirits to express themselves in a pithy, catchy and interesting slogan to convey their message effectively. These slogans were also illustrated with interesting pictures encouraging every individual to go green and turn environment friendly. As the slogans of ‘Do Right, Save Light’ and ‘When it is bright, Switch Off the Light’ rent the air, the stimulating experience also helped our learners to realize that today’s wastage equates tomorrow’s shortage, thereby jeopardizing lives of millions. The unbridled enthusiasm of the students came to the fore as each of them presented their slogans before the class and shared their views on the ways to save electricity. Selecting three best entries, the teachers appreciated the participants for their brilliant efforts and urged one and all to step up and act for change.
