A chat with the

President Dr. Prashant Bhalla MREI have emerged as one of the most dynamic and holistic universities in terms of education. How will you address the growth of the University over the years? Initiated with a small set-up of 180 students, Manav Rachna has attained this height only through the collaborative diligence and dedication of the entire Manav Rachna fraternity. With a vision to create better human beings (hence the name Manav Rachna), the sole purpose of the establishment was to incorporate benefits for the entire ecosystem. Challenges were many, but gradually, expectations grew and with that evolved the entire Manav Rachna biosphere. The academics, infrastructural facilities, research amenities, university rankings, affiliations and international knowledge partnershipseverything optimised gradually with time and incessant effort. Being the torchbearer of the MREI family, what are the principles you stand for? I would say that an outlook towards holistic development of humanity and self-integrity of a person are the principles that reflect in the growth of an organisation. Since my mother was a teacher, that integrity was imbibed in me from a very early age. The University emphasises on the multidisciplinary approach of imparting knowledge and sports are an integral part of it. The great moments of pride that the conferring of the Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puraskar 2021 brought upon MREI, what advice would you give to young minds who want to make a career in sports? When Manav Rachna was established, we were clear about imparting knowledge through diverse resources for overall life skill and soft skill building, rather than conventional modules of information delivery like mugging up the course work. Sports,

was particularly dear to our visionary founder, for he rightly believed that the kind of self-discipline, outlook towards life and character-building that sports can provide, is incomparable. Today, Manav Rachna has world-class sports facilities, is home to a host of prestigious sports events like the corporate cricket tournament and prides upon students and alumni who have made their mark in the national and international sports cosmos, including the much-coveted Olympics. I believe that all these accolades are an outcome of a support ecosystem that we have at Manav Rachna, thanks to its fantastic stakeholders. How does it feel to be spearheading an institution with 25 years of glorious existence? The feeling is vivid. While the students bringing in prestigious laurels make me proud and motivate me to surpass my expectations, the kind of amazing support system we have- the people, good knowledge partners and distinguished international contributors create a strong value base for us. With such a beautiful campus, what is your favourite spot and what makes it so special? The memorial area of the campus that has my father’s sculpture standing tall, is my favourite spot. The place provides an aura of peace with its serene atmosphere, lush green surroundings and blessings emanating out of the sculpture of our visionary founder. The locus is often used to organize various critical in-campus events like the forthcoming founder’s day celebration and is a source of tranquillity for me. The University has scaled high with the dedication of the steering team and our alumni making it to the top in prominent institutions across the globe. What are your thoughts on making Manav Rachna an international hub of education wherein we can attract more foreign investments in the country? Manav Rachna firmly believes that the purpose of

education is to create a better human ecology. From the ancient ages we have fostered quality education without the intent of financial gains through our Gurukuls and it is no wonder that educational institutions in India are considered sacred. Adhering to the sentiment, the core value and vision of Manav Rachna that was incorporated during its very inception, 25 years ago, to create humans, with the dexterity to achieve distinctive professional success on one hand while being firmly grounded, embodying the humane values of integrity, empathy and humility on the other, still reverberates in the same spirit today. In line with this, and answering your question regarding foreign investments, Manav Rachna has perpetually laid great emphasis on the role of international partnerships and has congenial alliances with various reputable institutions across the world. Additionally, we have a plethora of knowledge partnerships with various multinational establishments to aid us in classroom training, skill enhancement, setting up research and development labs, digitization, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, healthcare services and technological innovations. Manav Rachna also incorporates international pedagogical exchange through international student/faculty exchange programs, global boot camps and integrated Courses. So, I think foreign investments in the form of exchange programs and facilities to promote international standards of curriculum delivery is something we have been constantly working upon. What measures have the Manav Rachna fraternity taken to optimize the workflow of the university according to the changing trends in education in the COVID scenario? Manav Rachna has always evolved according to the changing industry trends and contemporary professional needs and as such, evolving our capacities and adjusting to the educational delivery requirements in line with the pandemic wasn’t so difficult for us. In fact, we were the first institution to move to MS Teams structure to deliver our online lessons. We had previously been actively engaged in creating content for cloud space which we only scaled up, as per the demand of the hour. Additionally, we ensured maximum safety of our students and staff through various measures like in campus vaccination drives. Further, various measures for the general public were also initiated including covid isolation facilities, a 24/7 helpline for providing psychological support to the victims and their families, a ready ambulance service during the 2nd wave and distribution of food grains. Overall, all the members of the MR family came on a unified front to help each other and the society. How are the youth of today different from the youth of yesteryears? Compared to the youth of yesteryears, the youth

of today have greater exposure to the global information influx and foster exceptional ambitions. While it is appreciable to believe that sky is the limit and no goal is unattainable in the modern cosmos, one should not leap without looking. Now, the youth is often dazzled by the lavish lifestyle and inordinate fame of a glitterati and in a rush to become like them, they jump on their career path without giving it a second thought. What they do not pause to consider is to look into all the back-breaking diligence and sleepless nights that went into the making of these celebrities. The students need to assess all the pros and cons, the pains and dedication they would be enduring and if they are really passionate about the profession, they should choose to pursue it. The leadership team of Manav Rachna holds the critical responsibility of formulating important decisions, good or bad reverberations of which can affect the entire university. What traits do you think one should possess to become an effective and eminent leader like you? A true leader never dictates what is to be done. On the contrary, he/she should provide an open work environment for the employees and enable them to suggest new ideas. A linear approach instead of a layered one ascertains an incursion of a more fruitful and transparent work environment where collective thoughts culminate into amazing outputs. As someone with two decades of experience in influencing lives, what recommendations do you have for the students of Manav Rachna who are about to graduate from the university and step into the highly competitive professional world? Today, the world today is full of opportunities. I agree that obstacles are bound to come but with a proper outlook towards one’s profession and life in general, success is achievable. The biggest challenge that a student would witness after passing out of here is manage people. However, with empathy and an approach of sensitivity towards others, professional relationships can be made strong and amicable. Additionally, one should also have a high professional aspiration that extends beyond the local and national

boundaries. Only then can excellence, professional satisfaction and affluence be achieved. Further, the students who pass out of here carry a responsibility towards elevating the skill sets and lives of their juniors and should own up their slice of contribution in pulling up those who are left behind.
