“All your dreams can come true if you have the courage to pursue them.” -Nasir Khan

NASIR KHAN

Since ancient times, those involved in political leadership have endeavoured to leave some imprints of their deeds that would encourage the future generation to remember their accomplishments. In our society, politicians are expected to accomplish different tasks like serving the nation and voicing and fulfilling the concerns of the people. They are, therefore, needed to be endowed with certain traits and skills to engage in a leading position, to work effectively with the public. Along with this, they also need to be apt in listening to concerns about public issues and addressing them promptly. Usually, young minds aspire to be incorporated in traditionally safe and high-paying professional genres but some think out of the box too. One such blooming gem is Nasir Khan, the youngest sarpanch of Haryana representing his village Bijopur. A young and vibrant political kingpin, Nasir depicts higher levels of extraversion and had always dreamt of serving the nation either in khaki or in khadi- a dream that has been successfully manifested. An alumni of Manav Rachna batch 2011-2012, Nasir is a National level squash player and possesses great leadership qualities. His impressive personality and notable moves have helped him become a major player in politics. Leaving the sheltered life of great luxury, he decided to polish his leadership traits by entering the system. Although initially hesitant about his ill-famed career choice, gradually, his family came to his full support. At an age when students are still chewing over various career options, he received the Ucha Yuva Shikshit Award in 2018. In the conventional Indian social setup, politics has often been condemned and criticized and youngsters discouraged to pursue it. However, the zealous leadership in Nasir thrust him to follow his true calling and it was then that he decided to take the risk, go against the grain and become an insider to bring about a radical social change. As a politician, he has been heavily inspired by the life of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. A leader is a dealer in hope- this proposition worked for him and his ideas gained credence and support. The attributes of empathy he picked as a child from his parents are what he is returning to society many folds by serving them now. Rightly considered a people's

person, Nasir has incessantly worked upon shattering stereotypes and enhancing the literacy rate in his village and dominion. In his tenancy, his council has already constructed 96 toilets and made Bijopur an open defecation free village. He holds the vision to maintain literacy and hygiene for all. He has also been a participant at the inspiring TedEx Talk where he spoke about the responsibility towards the country and managed to capture the minds of many. Hailed as a modern-day sarpanch, he gained media attention after participating in MTV Ace Of Space 2 in 2019. Recognizing the importance of leadership at grass root level and its transformative impact on people,Goa @ 60 was organized by Goa Legislative Assembly and MIT School of Government, supported by Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad which came to an end with a conclave on National Panchayat Parliament emphasizing on the importance of PRI for a healthy and inclusive democracy. It was on this occasion that Nasir got an opportunity to address his fellow panchayat leaders on this platform various fruitful ideas were exchanged which in turn can prove beneficiary for the betterment of the country in the long run. During the initial months of the pandemic outbreak, he educated his people about the virus and its transmission. He worked proactively, making regular announcements, sensitization of people, arranging for essentials, and procuring necessities for the underprivileged. There was also a proper sanitization of the entire village. His message to the youth is that, instead of criticizing politics be the change you wish to see. One person can make a difference and everyone should try! “The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don't have any.” It was on this ground that Nasir Khan convinced his natives to use their right to vote. Women were always discriminated against by the petrarchical goodmen who favoured males in deciding who would rule. The young Indian not only won over their belief but also gained their trust which in turn made him a household name. Giving away the sarpanch's land to the widow of a shaheed is what he considers the most gratifying moment of his political achievements.

He is aiming at catapulting to an even bigger margin of victory with his continuous emphasis on sports and fitness, with every village in Haryana opening up a vyayamshala and a sports complex. This would give the Indian rural youth, a platform to exhibit their talent both nationally and internationally. This luminary has one message for all the young ears and eyes out there, “There are two ways to live life, let whatever is happening in the system be, without criticising; or own up a slice of your responsibility to change it”.
