Discover Manchester... Once in Manchester there is so much to do and see. Take at least three days to explore what the city has to offer for an unforgettable weekend.

Alternatively you could book a guided walking tour with a Blue or Green Badge Guide to get to know the city from the stories of a local expert.

PM - After checking into your hotel pop into the Tourist Information Centre next to Manchester Town Hall (relocating to Piccadilly Gardens in June 2010) to find out what’s on in the city and where to go. Discover the magnificent neo-gothic Town Hall and the fascinating John Rylands Library.

After dinner take in the spectacular views of Greater Manchester from the 23rd floor of Beetham Tower at Hilton Hotel’s Cloud 23 bar. The wide range of cocktails and drinks can be enjoyed along with the amazing views through the floor-to-ceiling windows from Manchester’s tallest building. (If you can’t get enough of this bar return Saturday afternoon and treat yourself to a high tea.)

Afterwards walk to MOSI (Museum of Science & Industry) located on the site of the world’s first passenger railway. This exciting attraction lets you explore the city’s industrial past and offers colourful galleries packed full of interesting facts and artefacts.

Depending on your stamina choose to head back to the hotel for a well deserved rest or hit the city’s legendary nightlife. At Deansgate Locks you will find bars, nightclubs and the Comedy Store. Look out for Baa Bar, Revolution, Sugar Buddha and more.

Saturday AM - After breakfast spend the morning shopping in different districts of the city. If you’re looking for high-end, exclusive labels, head to King Street where you’ll find luxurious brands like Vivienne Westwood, Hugo Boss and Armani. Likewise head to Selfridges and Harvey Nichols on Exchange Square, where you’ll also find another one of the city’s exclusive shopping malls, The Triangle. Walk along Market Street and to Manchester Arndale for an abundance of well-known retailers. Spend an hour or two at Manchester Art Gallery, one of the most popular galleries in the Northwest. The gallery has a welcoming atmosphere and besides holding renowned collection of paintings, sculpture and decorative art objects, it also offers contemporary exhibitions. PM - After lunch, explore the Northern Quarter the bohemian, creative side of Manchester. The district of old warehouses is now home to independent restaurants, cafés and bars, as well as the most unique vintage and record stores. Visit hidden gem, Manchester Craft and Design Centre situated in the former Victorian Fish and Poultry Market. The centre is home to 19 studio boutiques, where talented artists create and sell jewellery, accessories, clothing, furniture, lighting, textiles, ceramics, photography and paintings. Depending on your mood, stay in the Northern Quarter to see a gig at one of the many live venues, such as Night & Day or Band on the Wall, have a laid-back drink or dance the night away at one of the many nightclubs. Alternatively enjoy a play or West End show at one of the many theatre venues, such as Palace Theatre, Opera House or The Royal Exchange Theatre.

Sunday AM - Take the Metrolink to The Quays (approx. 15 minutes), Greater Manchester’s unique waterfront destination, ideal for a good day out. If you like football, visit the Old Trafford for the Manchester United Museum and Stadium Tour. Check the website in advance to avoid disappointment - tours are limited on match days. Visit the fascinating and dramatic Imperial War Museum North, where you can experience how life was during wartime. Stroll across the bridge to The Lowry where the friendly informed assistants will introduce you to the current exhibition and help you understand the works of LS Lowry. Alternatively you could spend your day at the Trafford Quays Leisure Village, home to one of the UK’s largest shopping malls, The Trafford Centre or if you feel more active, use your skiing skills at the amazing Chill Factore or get a kick by skydiving in the wind tunnel of Airkix. Visiting with children? The brand-new Legoland Discovery Centre will entertain the whole family with its interactive rides, Miniland, live shows and building workshops. Staying longer than 3 days? Why not visit... • People’s History Museum • Manchester Museum • Whitworth Art Gallery • Chinese Arts Centre
