Chorus’ Concert GRANVILLE The Granville Area Chorus will present its annual spring concert on Sunday, June 18, at 4 p.m. in the South Granville Congregational Church. The 30-voice choir, directed by Crystal Everdyke and accompanied by Barbara Chellis, will sing a variety of sacred music including up-tempo spirituals and meditative hymns. The program opens with “Come Thou, All Mighty King,” the first verse of which the audience is welcome to sing. The first selection from Elijah is one of the sweetest, “Cast Thy Burden Upon the Lord,” and the second, one of the most powerful, “Behold, God the Lord Passed by.” “All Night, All Day” is a traditional spiritual in a new setting with conga accompaniment. New hymns “Holy Spirit, Living Breath of God” and “Give Peace to Your People” are contemporary appeals for deeper spirituality in life. The tempo picks up quickly in “Nobody Shoutin’ Like Me,” a quick-paced spiritual with Nathan Adams as soloist. The concert ends with a pair of spirituals, “I’ll be There in Glory” and “Blessed Be the Name.” There is no admission charge, but a free-will offering will be accepted to defray music costs. A reception by the Ladies of the Church will follow in the church hall. The South Granville Congregational Church is located at 7179 Route 149. u

Country Jam FORT EDWARD Calling all musicians. On June 21, the Little Theater on the Farm will host a Country and Bluegrass Jam. The jam is open to all musicians and begins at 7 p.m. Bluegrass music is a form of American roots music, and it is a sub-genre of country music. It has its own roots in Irish, Scottish and English traditional music. Bluegrass was inspired by the music of immigrants from the United Kingdom and Ireland (particularly the Scots-Irish immigrants in Appalachia), as well as jazz and blues. Bluegrass pioneer Bill Monroe characterized the genre as: “Scottish bagpipes and oletime fiddlin’. It’s Methodist and Holiness and Baptist. It’s blues and jazz, and it has a high lonesome sound.” In bluegrass, as in jazz, each instrument takes a turn playing the melody and improvising around it, while the others revert to backing; this is in contrast to old-time music, in which all instruments play the melody together or one instrument carries the lead throughout while the others provide accompaniment. Bluegrass is distinctively acoustic in instrumentation, not using electrical instruments of any kind. Stage call for the jam is 6:45 p.m. Admission is free; donations appreciated. A 50/50 raffle and refreshments are also part of the evening. Little Theater on the Farm is located at 27 Plum Rd. For more information visit www. littletheatre27.org. u

Bancroft Contracting Corporation is a Maine-based self-performing industrial construction company. We work on dams and we build huge fish passages. We work in paper mills and other big industrial plants. Sometimes we build giant foundations and industrial buildings. We build really cool projects all over New England. We’ve been in business since 1977. We pay well and we have a great benefit package. We need heavy construction laborers, form carpenters, and welders for a project in Chittenden VT starting right away. You need to have reliable transportation. You need to be energetic and able to do hard physical work for at least 10 hours a day in all weather conditions. You need to know how to use some basic construction tools. It’s no-go if you have a drug problem, if you have to be in court twice a week, or if you have transportation problems that make you miss work a lot. Pay depends on ability and experience. We’ll be working a lot of overtime this summer. We can use a few people with no construction experience if you can show up every day, work hard, and learn. If you have proven experience in heavy construction so much the better -- we pay top dollar for skilled journey-level craft people. Bancroft Contracting takes good care of its people, and people here work hard to take good care of our company. If this sounds interesting to you call me, Harold Skelton, and we’ll talk. I won’t BS you, and you won’t BS me -- sound about right? I look forward to hearing from you! Call (207) 743-8946.
