Blues legend to perform at library benefit Bob Stannard Productions will present a benefit concert for the Manchester Community Library on Wednesday, July 12, featuring the bluesy, soulful sounds of the 2012 and 2017 Blues Music Awards winner Biscuit Miller & the Mix. Joining Biscuit Miller will be special guests Bob Stannard and John Falk. The evening begins with a preshow party featuring snacks and a cash bar at 6 p.m. Music begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20. Biscuit Miller is a flamboyant bass player who fronts his own high energy, entertaining funky party band that’ll rival any stage show seen. Music performed at the library will feature songs from “Wishbone,” Miller’s eagerly awaited third studio recording. The title track was
inspired by Miller’s two grandsons, Jordan and Josh, who were excited about making a wish when they got their hands on the turkey wishbone during Thanksgiving dinner. Their excitement sparked an idea in musician’s creative mind, and he literally began singing and writing the song on the spot. He then jammed with his grandsons in his music room after dinner. That special day with his family and the birth of a song were all the motivation Miller needed to get back into the studio to begin working on “Wishbone.” Miller was introduced to the bass for the first time at the age of eleven when visiting his friend Datrick. It was sitting in a corner collecting dust when the young Miller picked it up and started playing it. The four string electric
Biscuit Miller and the Mix will be playing at the Manchester Community Library on July 12. The concert will benefit the many programs the library offers the community. bass belonged to Datrick’s older brother Darnell, who
taught him a couple of songs. Miller took to it immediately and thus began a love affair with playing bass that has taken him places he could never have imagined. He formed his first band, Clever, with childhood friend Ivan Wallace. They moved to Minneapolis in 1982. Soon after, a mutual friend, Joe Rowe introduced Miller to Sonny Rogers who taught him a lot about playing basic blues. Miller then went on to play with other respected blues artists such as, Mojo Buford, formerly with Muddy Waters, and Lady Blue, backup vocalist for Ike and Tina Turner. One day, Miller received a phone call requesting him to come back home to sub for Chicago’s own legendary Lonnie Brooks who needed a bass player for one night. That one night lasted for
more than ten years as Biscuit became the permanent bass player for the Lonnie Brooks Band. In 2000 he formed Biscuit and The Mix to fill up some down-time. When he is not busy touring or recording, Miller loves to spend time with his friends and family. His grandchildren are especially precious to him. The benefit concert will take place at the Manchester Community Library which is located at 138 Cemetery Ave., at the corner of Cemetery Ave. and Route 7A, in Manchester Center. Bancroft Contracting Corporation is a Maine-based self-performing industrial construction company. We work on dams and we build huge fish passages. We work in paper mills and other big industrial plants. Sometimes we build giant foundations and industrial buildings. We build really cool projects all over New England. We’ve been in business since 1977. We pay well and we have a great benefit package. We need heavy construction laborers, form carpenters, and welders for a project in Chittenden VT starting right away. You need to have reliable transportation. You need to be energetic and able to do hard physical work for at least 10 hours a day in all weather conditions. You need to know how to use some basic construction tools. It’s no-go if you have a drug problem, if you have to be in court twice a week, or if you have transportation problems that make you miss work a lot. Pay depends on ability and experience. We’ll be working a lot of overtime this summer. We can use a few people with no construction experience if you can show up every day, work hard, and learn. If you have proven experience in heavy construction so much the better -- we pay top dollar for skilled journey-level craft people. Bancroft Contracting takes good care of its people, and people here work hard to take good care of our company. If this sounds interesting to you call me, Harold Skelton, and we’ll talk. I won’t BS you, and you won’t BS me -- sound about right? I look forward to hearing from you! Call (207) 743-8946.
