'Yarn bomb' in the making For those who knit, crochet, or make other yarn-related crafts, hoarding yarn seems to come with the territory. If you fit into this demographic and have more yarn than you know what to do with, you may be interested in donating clean, tangle-free yarn balls and skeins to the Manchester Community Library. All types of yarns are needed, ranging in color, texture and thickness, for use in creating the library’s first Yarn Bomb. This Yarn Bomb is a type of “fiber graffiti.” Rather than some more permanent types of street art, Yarn Bombing uses fiber to cover public places varied types of crocheted, knitted, knotted, felted, or any other type of yarn art. Janet Kleinberg, youth services librarian, said the event will unfold in the coming months. Anyone interested in donating to this fibrous flash mob can take their yarn to the

It’s that time of year again. Every second weekend in August since 1961, the townspeople of Rupert, Vermont have taken time out of their bustling lives to come together and celebrate just how great their town really is – with Old Home Days. From Aug. 10 to Aug. 12 the town will be in full festival mode, with a carnival, food and nightly bingo, each night jampacked with events. Both Thursday and Friday will feature a musical act, with the band Peerless Pressure on Thursday and the classic rock band Last Call on Friday. Performances begin at 7 p.m. Saturday night will be the real show-stopper, starting with a chicken barbecuefrom 11:30 a.m. to
2 p.m. At noon, while you’re dining, you can enjoy the musical stylings of Al & Kathy Bain and Gary Bladgett, who are well known for their oldstyle country music and authentic bluegrass and spirited gospel style. At 1 p.m. kids will have their fun and games. Then at 3 p.m. the Hill Country Cloggers will kick up their heels with a variety of dances to delight the crowd. Then at 5:30 p.m. it’s the annual Old Home Days parade, this year with the theme “Great Outdoors in Vermont.” A bike raffle will be held at 7 p.m. and the Bob Beaver Band will take the stage to end the celebration.
