BRIEFS Vigil Tuesday in Granville at 7 p.m. On Tuesday, Aug. 15, everyone is invited to gather in Veteran’s Memorial Park in Granville to grieve the loss of several local people. In the park, starting at 7 p.m., will be a candlelight vigil, memorial luminaries and paper lanterns. Area pastors will speak. Those wishing to remember a lost loved one are urged to bring posters, t-shirts or any other memorabilia to the event, which is free and open to the public.

The Tri-County Women's National Farm & Garden Flower Show will take place on Saturday, August 12 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Masonic Hall in Hartford. This year's theme is " By the beautiful sea". There will be bake sale and raffles in addition to the plant sale. All proceeds benefit the clubs scholarship program. Last year the club was honored to give three $500 scholarships.

Great food continues at 4 p.m. with a chicken barbecue dinner at the fire station. Also on Friday, from 4-8 p.m., on Friday there will be a silent auction with a display of classic cars from 6-8 p.m. at the Bennington fire station. The evening is capped off with a Las Vegas Night at the firehouse from 6-10 p.m. DJ Ben Patten from Magic 590 AM will provide the music.

Friday11 Battle Days BENNINGTON The 53rd annual celebration of the American victory over the British at Bennington on Aug. 16, 1777 is still commemorated today, and takes a full weekend of events to do it right. This year, Bennington Battle Days will take place Friday through Sunday, Aug. 11-13, at events around Bennington, culminating with a parade on Sunday.

Saturday starts off early with registration at 8 a.m. for the Battle Day 5K Road Race at the Bennington Monument in Old Bennington. The race begins at 9:30 a.m. From 10 a.m. to noon all children are invited to a Kids Day event at the Bennington Rec Center, at 655 Gage Street. The event is sponsored by the Bennington Fire Department. A Living History Encampment will take place on the grounds of the Bennington Monument from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors can watch drill presentations, musket and artillery demonstrations, and educational exhibits. Activities for children will be ongoing hourly.
