Get ready for Garlic Fest next weekend By Ellen Ricks Looking to have a good time this Labor Day weekend? Follow your nose over to the Camelot Village and Antique Center in Bennington for the 22nd annual Southern Vermont Garlic & Herb Festival, better known as Garlic Fest. On Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 2 and Sept. 3, show your love for your favorite herb with a weekend of activities, vendors, food and live bands. Don’t underestimate the power of garlic. Its smell is sure to attract fun for everyone. Gates open at 10 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. and with so much to do, you won’t know where to start. There’s a “beer & wine garden” organized by Ramunto’s, a local pizza shop who will have some giveaways as well as some fun specialty drinks to try. Brave enough to try a Garlic Margarita? There will also be live musical performances through the

The Washington County Fair, which began Monday, Aug. 21, continues through Sunday, Aug. 27 at the Washington County Fairground on Route 29 in Greenwich. If you haven’t been there yet, have no fear, the last half of the fair is just as actionpacked as the first half. Friday morning begins at 9 a.m. with an Open Class Dairy competition in the Judging Arena tent which will include Jersey, Brown Swiss and Ayrshire cows. If cows aren’t your thing, you can visit the sheep/goat barn for the Open Dairy and Meat Goat Judging competition. The Motorsports Arena starts the day at 10 a.m. with Out of Field Tractor Pulls. In addition to repeat showings of Hot Dog Pig Races, Sylvia and the Magic Trunk, Circus Incredible and more there will be a Youth Western Horse Show in the Horse Arena at 11 a.m.; a sheep-shearing demo in the sheep/goat barn at
