Steampunk Festival Book Sale TROY Get ready to get wild at Troy’s fourth annual Steampunk Festival, which kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 16, at a new Riverside Park setting with a floating pirate after-party on the Hudson River. The festival, which is entitled “The Enchanted City IV, Deus Ex Machina-A Steampunk Fair,” will be at the Riverfront Park in downtown Troy from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is a free festival of steampunk fashion, fantasy and fabrications which draws a crowd o f more than 5,000 participants as well as offers a family-friendly day of music, games, performance, food and fantasy that will expand even your wildest imagination. Special events of the day including an opening parade of Mad Machinery, a costume contest, street performers, and a fantastic group of peddlers. There will also be storytelling, dancing, puppet shows, magic acts and more. For those unfamiliar with the term “Steampunk”, it is a genre of science fiction/fantasy that takes place in an alternative 1800’s setting in which there is modern technology like robotics and air travel, powered by Victorian style and sensibilities. When future meets past, it is a unique and beautiful thing. Don’t forget about the after-party from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Hop aboard the enchanted version of the Dutch Apple II riverboat as Dread Pirate Fredrick and his nasty crew set sail. “Victims” will be treated to a light buffet dinner and drinks at a floating cash bar and listen to the music of indie artist Shayfer James. The afterparty is $75 per person. So whether you come in the light of day or the dark of night, the Steampunk Festival will be a fun event for all.
