working in the mines. This film is based on the 1939 bestselling novel by Richard Llewellyn and stars Oscar winner Donald Crisp, Maureen O’Hara, Walter Pidgeon and a young Roddy McDowell. “How Green Was My Valley” was voted Best Picture of 1941. Welsh residents of the Slate Valley will find resonance in the film as the main characters grapple with the decision to leave the mining town as the industry has depleted natural resources and blackened the once lush, green landscape. This film is a reminder to persevere in the face of struggle because that can result in success. This viewing of the classic black and white film is free to be enjoyed by those of all ages as it is rated “G”. To put you in the movie-watching mood, popcorn and light refreshments will be served during the screening. The Slate Valley Museum is located at 17 Water Street in Granville. starting at 8:30 a.m. This 5K run will benefit the Saratoga County Veterans Trust and Agency Fund. The running course will go past the Champlain Canal Lock C5 in the Hudson Cross Park where in 1777 British General John Burgoyne led several thousand British and German sol-
diers across the river to engage American forces. To cross the river, soldiers lashed together a number of flat-bottomed wooden crafts to form a floating “Bridge of Boats,” and then marched across. There will be other fun activities to do such as a “Kids Fun Run” and a 50/50 raffle. The cost of running in the 5K is $25 if you pre-register at www.finishright.com , or $30 on race day.
