Granville’s Hallelujah GRANVILLE The biggest community event of the year, and the best way to ease into the holiday season, Granville’s Hallelujah will be held on Friday, Dec. 1, at Veterans Memorial Park. This is both a First Friday event and a community celebration of the Christmas season. The festivities begin at 4 p.m. with the Pember Library and Museum open house and the Slate Valley Museum open house. The Slate Valley Museum will host its sixth annual Festival of Trees where guests can view beautifully decorated trees and bid on one to take home. Opening night of the Festival of Trees celebration will feature a free hats
and mittens tree for children, hot cocoa with cookies and fun crafts. At the Pember Library and Museum, you’ll find the fourth annual “Festival of Wreaths” where guests can view and bid on delightfully decorated wreaths that you might be able to take home for your holiday decorating. At 6 p.m. Santa’s Parade will proceed down Main Street from Great Meadow Federal Credit Union to Veterans Memorial Park where, at 6:15 p.m. with the arrival the big guy, the lighting of the Christmas tree will make the season bright with holiday cheer. Then at 6:30 p.m. children can meet with Santa and Mrs. Claus and get their picture taken with them as they tell Santa everything on their wish list. The celebration starts with Christmas carols in Juckett Park with the Hudson Falls School Music Department, followed by the tree lighting in the park. Then at 6:15 p.m. Santa will be “rescued” by the Fire Departments and lead the Parades to the Park. Mayor Baron and the Village Board will welcome Santa at the park. All the children will be able to visit Santa in the Gazebo and tell him their Christmas wishes. In preparation for the Parade of St Nicolaas at 4:00, marchers can make their own lanterns at Revibe on Broadway to carry during the parade. Just stop in! At 4 PM, St Nicolaas will arrive at the intersection of Rts. 29 & 4 to lead a children’s lantern parade down Broad St. to the Schuylerville Village Park decked out as a Dutch Village. After a small ceremony, St Nicolaas and Dan Carpenter, Mayor of Schuylerville, will light the Village Christmas Tree. All are invited to march/walk/ride in the parade; Meet in the parking lot of the Health Center to line up. The SGF High School Vocal Point singing group will be featured in the parade. Following the parade, local merchants will be open for more shopping and lots of eatery choices. Downtown merchants will be serving treats to strolling villagers. Byron’s Market will be serving Pea Soup, St Nicolaas’ favorite. Sweeney’s will have cookies and hot chocolate. AAC Wellness Center will be open with Christmas Caroling and yummy oranges. Benefit Concert FORT ANN There will be a benefit concert for local musician Joe Gero on Saturday, Dec. 2, at the Boar’s Nest in Fort Ann, starting at 2 p.m. This will be an afternoon of good music, good food, all to help a good musician get through the holidays. The benefit concert will feature live music by The New Whiskey Band, 4 Wheel Drive, Vintage Country, Rugged Country, as well as all single acts that would like to join in on the music fan. There will also be food, raffles, silent auction, and a 50/50. Joe Gero is well-known throughout the community with his beautiful singing voice and has led many fundraisers throughout his 50 years of entertaining to help other people and their families. After Joe’s back surgery made him retire, he’s in need of money to get through the holidays. The money raised during the benefit concert will go to him and his family. All donations are welcome. Food donations for the event are also needed and much appreciated. Admission to the benefit concert is $10, $5 for kids 12 and under. The price includes food. Toys for Tots Train WHITEHALL The Marine Corps Toys for Tots Train will pull into the Whitehall Amtrak station at 10:55 a.m. on Sunday Dec. 3 for some holiday cheer and giving. Marines, Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will come off the train loaded with bags full of t o y s , coats, hats and possibly some treats for distribution in what is a perennial favorite of the community. Anyone is welcomed to greet the train, even if you are not signed up for Toys for Tots. Once the train pulls out of the

Legionnaires, not Santa’s Elves, will be working swiftly behind the scenes to ensure the presents are ready on time. When the Toys for Tots train leaves Whitehall at 11:20 a.m. it will continue north to Port Henry at 12:20 p.m., Port Kent at 2:15 p.m. and Rouses Point at 3:25 p.m. The train starts off in Albany at 8 a.m. before stopping in Saratoga at 8:55 a.m. followed by Fort Edward at 10:10 a.m. Donations of new, unwrapped toys can be brought to the American Legion, located on Skenesborough Drive. Cash is also accepted. Legionnaires have already finished their Christmas
shopping online to further supplement the toys brought by train. Lafayette said they received a “truckload of toys” last Tuesday. GRANVILLE A new event will be joining the Granville caroling parade on Friday, Dec. 15. Granville’s first lighted tractor parade will spice things up the annual caroling around the village, bringing lighted tractors, gators, bicycles, and more. Santa and Mrs. Claus will also be making be making a special appearance. The parade will set up and kick off from Telescope Casual Furniture on Church Street at 6 p.m. and will continue north on Church Street to Main Street, then west on Main Street to Veterans Memorial Park. Once at the park, parade watchers will enjoy a show from the dancing holiday lights that are choreographed to music which can be heard by tuning in to a designated radio station. At about 7 p.m., carolers will take to the streets to drum up some holiday cheer by singing tunes such as “We wish you a Merry Christmas” and “Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer” and “Silent Night.” The caroling will begin at Veterans Memorial Park, down Quaker Street, to Elm Street, then left onto Norton Street to Pacific Street, Columbus Street and over to Franklin Avenue and loop back around to return to the park. Singers can join or exit at any point along the route. Cocoa and cookies will be served to carolers. It is suggested that carolers bring a small flashlight or headlamp to help them navigate the dark village streets.
