Christmas Concert GRANVILLE The Granville Area Chorus will present its Christmas Concert on Saturday evening, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. in The South Granville Congregational Church. The 30-voice choir will sing a variety of seasonal pieces, some familiar, some modern, and some combinations of different favorites. Directed by Crystal
Everdyke and accompanied by Barbara Chellis, the program begins with “Shout to the North’, a mixing of a new hymn with the familiar “Good Christian Men, Rejoice” followed by “Gloria! Sing Praise! Alleluia!” a fastpaced song with conga accompaniment. The modern popular songs “Mary, Did You Know?” and “Breath of Heaven” explore Mary's awareness and acceptance of the role she has been asked to play in this world-changing drama. A gathering of Christmas carols is presented in a “Fantasy on Old Carols” as it is called, by Gustav Holst. This is followed by “African Gloria” , an up-tempo contemporary piece with conga drum and piano. “Carols Around (and around)” is a combination of “Dona Nobis Pacem”, “The First Noel”, “It Came Upon the Midnight Clear”, and “Away in a Manger” The main feature of the program is “Let There Be Christmas”, a cantata chronicling the coming of Christ through both the Old and New Testaments. Hymns of the season are interspersed with Bible readings telling the story. The beginning and ending hymns will include the audience singing along. As has become a recent tradition with the Chorus, the concert will end with Handel's “Hallelujah Chorus”. The chorus will spread out around the audience and anyone who wants to may join the chorus. Soloists will be Tracy Wesley, Will Hardin, Mary Tooley, Karrie Monroe, Sally Giambatista, Joe Bogart, Michelle Parbus, Rev. Art Peters, and Nathan Adams. Narration by Ken Littlewood.
