Snowmobiles operated in New York state must be registered with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), even if it is registered in another state or province, except under certain special circumstances. For more information about snowmobile registration, contact the DMV. A portion of each registration goes to the Snowmobile Trail Development and Maintenance Fund. This fund supports over 10,000 miles of public snowmobile trails in New York State, snowmobile safety education programs and enforcement of state snowmobile laws. Daigle said there are a number of chances to take the safety course during the year. There are nine clubs in the Granville area, he said, and clubs stagger the dates they offer the course.

SFC (Retired) Arthur Coon worked as a recruiter for the National Guard for many years and helped enlist many local soldiers. With his wife, Coon welcomed the soldiers as members of their own family. Coon said that march came to be after him and his wife had a long year with our local soldiers deployed. Polar Plunge LAKE GEORGE Join the frosty shores of Lake George on New Year’s Day for the annual Polar Plunge. Shepard Park beach will fill with around 1,000 participants expected to take the plunge again. This annual

tradition became popular over the years occurring on the “First Day.” Registration for the event will take place at 10:30 a.m. at Duffy’s Tavern. Preistration will re g be from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 31 at Duffy’s Tavern as well. The first 400 participants will plunge into the ice waters of Lake George at 1:15 p.m. with the rest of the plungers to follow. After the event, there will be a party at Duffy’s Tavern to warm everyone up. Registration is $10 and all funds will be donated to the local fire departments involved in securing the event, as well at the Springfield Shriners Hospitals for children. Shirts will also be available for $10 each. Participants are reminded to pack a towel and water shoes, wear a swimsuit under your clothes, bring warm clothes for after the plunge as well as plastic bag for wet clothes.

The contest is open to both businesses and residential decorations in the town or village. There will be prizes awarded to the Best Business and Best Residential orations.
