Welcome to the 2017 edition of the Cambridge Valley Community Guide. It is with great pleasure that we once again bring this all-important edition right to your home and business, free of charge. This special edition is the culmination of a great deal of work on the part of the staff of Manchester Newspapers, publishers of the FreePress. We have tried to make it as comprehensive as possible. From information on our schools to town and village government, from church times to an exhaustive list of the Cambridge Valley Chamber of Commerce - and much more. We also would like to thank town, village and school officials for their assistance in compiling all the information contained on these pages. Thanks also to Sara Kelly of Sara Kelly Graphics & Design for supplying us with beautiful pictures to use. And, thanks again to our loyal advertisers who have so generously supported this edition over the years and have allowed us to bring it to you free of charge. We hope you find this edition helpful and that you keep it handy yearround - right alongside your 2017 Southern Washington County Phone Book! John Manchester, Publisher

Balloon Festival
17th Annual Cambridge Valley Balloon Festival Returns June 2-4 One of Cambridge’s signature events, the 17th Annual Cambridge Valley Balloon Festival, will return Friday, June 2 through Sunday, June 4, 2016 in and around the historic village of Cambridge. As organizers of the event, the Cambridge Valley Chamber of Commerce puts together the schedule of festival activities, which will again include the launch of 10 hot air balloons. All launches take place at the Cambridge Central School on Route 22 (wind and weather permitting). Evening launches typically occur between 6:307:30 p.m.; morning launches are between 5:30-6:30 a.m. Between the launches, the Cambridge community throws out the red carpet and provides a myriad of activities to entertain the crowds. There will be rides, carnival games, food vendors, and sporting events. Community businesses, through the Chamber, sponsor a fireworks display on Friday evening at the Cambridge Guest Home Park on South Union Street. On Saturday, there is a “Taste of Cambridge” event at the same location, which showcases local food producers and restaurants. The “Taste” is fol-
lowed by the annual Moon Glow, a spectacular night time display of tethered hot air balloons that are lit from inside in time to music. A pilot’s breakfast is held on Sunday morning. In the village, activities such as craft fairs, farmers’ markets, museum tours, concerts, a car show and gallery events will take place. The Chamber will distribute a detailed event guide and schedule of events in May. To get your organization’s event listed on the balloon festival’s official schedule, send the information in writing to P.O. Box 405, Cambridge, NY 12816 or email cambridgechamber@gmail. com. Donations to the festival are always welcome. Any amount is appreciated. Sponsors and volunteers make this event happen. Please mail donations to the P.O. Box address noted above. “Without your donations of time and money there wouldn’t be a Balloon Festival,” Balloon Committee members say. For more information on Cambridge, call the Chamber of Commerce call 518-677-0887 or visit cambridgenychamber. com.
The Cambridge Valley Balloon Festival will start on Friday, June 3 and continue through Sunday, June 5.

MAKING ART AND COMMUNITY HAPPEN
Summer Arts at Hubbard Hall
Hubbard Hall offers summer arts programs for young people, designed to give participants a fun and illuminating experience of working with teaching artists and other kids to make and perform great art! The end result is a celebration of the group process.
Summer Theater: Kids Company, Ages 5-7 Directed by Digby Baker-Porazinski Two-week daily program Mon-Fri: June 26 to July 7 (No program July 4) 9am – 12pm Freight Depot Theater Cost: $250
Showcase Performance, Hubbard Hall Freight Depot Theater Friday, July 7 at 6:00pm In this two-week daily summer theater program, kids ages five to seven years are introduced to the skills and magic of the theater. Through theater games, music, and art we form an ensemble cast experience in which everyone has a creative voice. Every child has magical worlds within them–what will they create today? Based on a children’s book, the group will work together to create a fun performance for family and friends on Friday July 7th.

Performances, Hubbard Hall Main Stage Friday, July 21 at 7pm, Saturday July 22 at 2pm Hubbard Hall invites all kids ages 8-12 to come and participate in a four-week-long summer theatre program and musical, How to Eat Like a Child – And Other Lessons in Not Being a Grown Up by Judith Kahan with music by John Forster. The program will be directed by Virginia Edinger (recent director of Alice in Wonderland and Really Rosie!) with musical direction by Richard Cherry. Kids will learn the basics of theatre while playing team-building, improv, and acting games, while working in tandem with the director and musical director. Participants will also create their own sets, props, and even costumes. Ultimately the final product will be the culmination of the weeks of rehearsals, exercises, and summer fun, to create a performance to showcase all of the students’ wonderful work.
