Art Opening at VAM Jon Segan’s “Constructions” and Russell Serrianne’s “Small Works and Drawings” will be
exhibited at Valley Artisan’s Market in Cambridge from Jan. 19 to Feb. 13. An artist’s reception will be held on Sunday, Jan. 21 from 3 to 5 p.m. Russell Serrianne lives in Glens Falls, where he has maintained his studio at the Shirt Factory since 2006. “I am captivated by the energized line naturally found in the strength and determination of the vine tendril,” he said. “I use the tendril as my drawing tool, as my mark, as a three-dimensional line. “I seek to create movement, fluidity and variations in density stemming from the thickness of each tendril and its placement within the whole.” Jon Segan studied art at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. “In my work I usually combine painting and sculpture with objects, fitting them together spatially into boxes that I construct,” he said. “I paint and sculpt in a straight-forward manner to best achieve harmony between the two-dimensional image and the three-dimensional form. The coming together of the different elements allows the work to become first image, then object, and ultimately a blending of the two.” Valley Artisans Market, 25 E. Main St., Cambridge, New York. 6 • The FREEPRESS • Friday, January 19, 2018 The Stony Creek Band has thrilled generations of fans with its high energy blend of rock, folk, country and bluegrass; a sound that has consistently defied description but is “a product of the landscape as authentically upstate as any Hudson River School painting or sculpture by David Smith” and performed in a manner described by one reviewer as “a ferocious ensemble attack; like a runaway train!” Over the last 40 years, the Stony Creek Band has evolved from an acoustic trio with roots in traditional folk and country music to a purveyor of American idioms, and back again. With the release of 2013’s Stony Creek Band Live! album, the band has successfully captured the proverbial “lightning in a bottle” bringing to fans around the world the sound, raw energy and contagious excitement of the Stony Creek Band’s legendary concert performances. Don’t miss the fun!! Tickets are $10. Information and tickets: 518-832-3484 The Strand Theater, 210 Main St., Hudson Falls, New York. Website: mystrandtheater.org
