Art opening at VAM The art of “Containment” is the theme for a new exhibition at Valley Artisan’s Market in Cambridge featuring the work of artist Barry Targan. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, Feb. 17, from 3 to 5 p.m. Many people are familiar with Targan’s acrylic still-life paintings, signed under his alias, Richard Dubin. His new show at VAM explores all kinds of containers and the way materials contain space. Works in a variety of mediums will be exhibited: copper shapes, wood boxes, ceramics, birdhouses, paintings, polymer clay and plaster. “I’m exploring the ways we contain space in both positive and negative structures,” Targan said. “I’ve always believed that the intent of art is to give an informing shape to human experience.” The reception is free and all are welcome. The exhibition will continue through March 13. Valley Artisan’s Market, 25 E.
