A provocative exhibit of photobooks The Canfield Gallery in Arlington opened its first show of 2018 with a provocative exhibit of artistic photobooks assembled by the fine art photography magazine “Aperture” in cooperation with the international photography fair “Paris Photo.” The exhibit, “Aperture Paris Photobooks,” is comprised of 35 individual books nominated by a distinguished jury of fine art and photography curators, critics and publishers and celebrated at a gala reception in Paris last November. The show is a visual and intellectual treat blending the disciplines of photography, journalism, graphic design and bookbinding. The books are laid out on counter-high tables, allowing visi-

tors to turn the pages and view each book in its entirety. “Aperture” was founded in 1952 by Ansel Adams, Minor White, Nancy Newhall, Dorothea Lange and other leading American photographers and writers. It is the pre-eminent journal of fine art photography and the Photobook is one of the most dynamic genres in the contemporary art world. The Canfield Gallery is the first location in North America to present the collection following its debut at the Aperture Foundation Gallery in New York City. Books in the exhibit are from the United States and several foreign countries including Germany, Russia, China, Spain, Norway,
