Celtic Concert The Slate Valley Museum will again host popular Celtic band Gypsy Reel on Friday, March 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. The night before St. Patrick’s Day the band will be playing Irish classics and their own mix of modern Celtic fare. St. Patty's Parade The 27th annual Hoosick Falls St. Patrick’s Parade and Irish Festival has it all – marching pipe bands, Irish dancing and lots of Wearing of the Green! The parade kicks off on Saturday, March 17 at noon from Wood Park in Hoosick Falls. It will proceed down Main Street, then on to John, Church and Willard Streets before heading back down Main. More than 40 marching units and floats will surprise and delight. After the parade, the Irish Festival begins, featuring the bands Hellcat Maggie at 1 p.m. and Kevin McKrell at 2:30 p.m. in Wood Park. The Hubbard Hall Irish Dancers from Cambridge will be at BYTE Restaurant and The Sand Bar will feature “The Celtic Games.” Bands, Irish food and music will be served up throughout the afternoon at the Eagle Club and the Polish Hall. The Hoosick Falls Central School’s (HFCS) Art Department has been busy making unique ceramic bowls for this year’s Empty Bowls Fundraiser Event. The event supports the HACA (Hoosick Area Church Association) Food Pantry and will be held on Thursday, March 22, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the HAYC3 Armory in Hoosick Falls. Empty Bowls is a tradition for the area. This year, the creative skills of the HFCS’s art students will be joined by the culinary art of soup-makers from Brown’s Brewing Company, St. Mary’s Academy, and HFCS. Guests may choose from one of the hundreds of colorful, handmade bowls and several tasty soup options. Attendees leave with their beautiful bowl and get to enjoy an evening out with friends while also helping others in the community. Bowls and soup are available on a firstcome, first-served basis, so come early for the best selection! In addition, attendees can view a student art show in the HAYC3 Armory Art Gallery and enjoy some local music by the Hoosick Falls Fiddle Club. Murder Mystery Battenkill Books in Cambridge will be serving up a Scottish Tea and a Murder Mystery on Sunday, March 25 at 4 p.m. Participants will take part in a murder mystery based on a mystery series by Ann Cleeves - author of “Vera” and “Shetland” fame. To celebrate the publication of “Cold Earth,” Cleeves has written a murder mystery based around a traditional Shetland tea. Shetland is the setting of the popular crime series featuring detective Jimmy Perez. The menu, provided by Round House Bakery Cafe and Rablogan Castle of Scotland, will include tea and coffee, fresh-baked oat biscuits with salmon and cream cheese, real Scottish shortbread, freshbaked scones, jams and authentic Scottish breageac. Ticket price of $30 also includes a copy of “Raven Black,” the first of Ann Cleves’ Shetland Island mysteries. Five lucky attendees will also receive a copy of “Cold Earth” in hardcover.
