Anthology of Vermont poetry launch party, reading April 14 A new anthology of Vermont poetry has been published by The Blueline Press in East Dorset, featuring 111 contemporary poems by 67 Vermont poets. “Birchsong: Poetry Centered in Vermont, vol. II” is a rich collection of poetry reflecting the Vermont landscape, its people and its culture. The book is illustrated by artist Mary Schwartz from East Dorset. A launch party will be held at the Northshire Bookstore in Manchester on Saturday, April 14, beginning at 2 p.m. Many of the poets featured in the book will be reading their work. The first Birchsong volume was published in 2012 featuring poems

that reflect a place where living is dictated by the seasons, farming is a way of life and towns may have only one main street. All the poems, however, opened a window on a region of contradictions where natural beauty and neglect, wealth and poverty, often exist side by side. Though similar to the first volume in their evocation of the natural world, the new poems in the second volume of Birchsong reflect a changed environment since 2012 due to tropical storm Irene in 2011. However the constants that endure throughout the cycle of years and seasons will be recognized by all who revere the natural

world and readers are invited to enter each poem and to view its landscape through the eyes of the poets. The second Birchsong volume is edited by Northshire poets Alice Wolf Gilborn, Carol Cone, David Mook, Marcia Angermann, Peter Bradley and Monica Stillman. The Blueline Press, licensed in Vermont, was established by Gilborn mainly as a reprint press, though it has published original works on occasion, including the first Birchsong. For more information call 802362-2200 or visit northshire.com. Northshire Bookstore is located at 4869 Main St. in Manchester Illustration for Birchsong, vol. II by artist Mary Schwartz of Center, Vt. East Dorset.
