Farm, lawn & garden Nava grew up just outside of Mexico City where “you couldn’t kick the soil without finding an archaeological object,” which inspired a love of the object as artifact. For the past decade, Nava has worked on a series of sculptures made of welded sheet metal – geometric forms that may appear flat, or intentionally 3-dimensional at first, but through a controlled “proprietary” explosive process in which the forms are filled with accelerants and ignited, he creates “expanded forms” that bulge, pucker and may even burst at the seams.
